Back from #io13, it's time to catch up on those Android session videos, which are online already. These are on my todo list: the new build system, Google Play services, the new Location API, Bluetooth best practices, and Volley.

Android 4.2 introduced a variety of user-facing features and improvements, such as lock-screen widgets, Daydream, support for RTL layouts, and others. It also introduced a number of important security enhancements for users and developers.
The post below recaps key security features in Jelly Bean that all developers should know about. Whether you are targeting Android 4.2 or earlier versions, it's a good idea to validate the areas covered in this post in order to to make your app more secure and robust.

In-app Billing version 3 API is expanded to support in-app subscriptions. The V3 API now lets you sell the same types of subscriptions as in IAB v2, and under the same terms.
We're currently enabling this feature across all compatible Android devices, a process we expect to take about 7 days. Until all devices have been enabled, we recommend that do not publish an app that uses IAB V3 subscriptions. We'll let you know here (and in the docs) as soon the process is complete.
If you want to get started developing and don't want to wait for the automatic feature rollout, simply reboot your device to force an immediate update.
We've also updated the docs and sample app to show the implementation details.
With this launch, In-app billing V3 now covers all of the features offered by V2. We strongly recommend that you migrate existing applications from V2 to... more »

As of today, #androiddev can edit apps that use multiple APKs in the new Google Play Developer Console - just choose "Advanced mode" on the APK page. Advanced mode also lets you upload a new APK without publishing it immediately. Thanks for your feedback about app publishing.

#AndroidDev Tip for 2013:
Google Play services offers a standard authorization flow for all Google APIs and all components of Google Play services.
In addition, you can leverage the authorization portion of the Google Play services SDK to gain authorization to services that are not yet supported in the Google Play services platform by using the access token to manually make API requests or using a client library provided by the service provider.

The Android device frame generator has just graduated to developer.android.com!
Introducing the Device Art Generator, a new page in the Distribute tab that allows you to quickly wrap your app screenshots in real device artwork. This provides better visual context for your app screenshots on your web site or in other promotional materials.

Android Developer Site Redesign
Every year Google I/O means there are plenty of new eyes on the Android Developer Site, so we've taken the opportunity of this year's I/O to update developer.android.com to provide a more streamlined, simplified, and focused experience.
As developers, our tasks fall into three baskets: Design, develop, and distribute; so we've restructured developer.android.com to reflect this.
We'll be sharing more tips to help you design, develop, and distribute your apps at Google #IO12 , with all sessions being recorded and many of them live streamed during the event.
What do you think of our new look?

You can get started with subscriptions right away by reading the In-app Billing documentation and downloading the updated sample app.

One of the best things about being a developer is seeing the incredible things people create with the things you build.
That's how we felt when we saw what the folks at Autodesk had created with SketchBook -- and again when we saw what Luis Peso created using SketchBook for Android.
