6 Social Media Tips to Go From Good to Great
Simple. Practical. Effective. These simple social media tips from +Jeremy Smith may seem common sense to some of the more savvy #socialmedia pro, but it's always good to revisit the basics.
As common sense as they might seem, there are still many who seem to have never caught on. So give it a read, and let me know if there are any you would have added to the list!

That matters because networks play increasingly important roles in shaping both our economy and our society. But network density, by itself, isn’t enough. Social Presence: Social Tagging
One important part of the Social Presence book is going to be the Social Presence Folksonomy, the set of #socialtags #metadata that will enable us to crowdsource, produce and evolve the #bookasplatform .
Shared and Shareable Understanding
I see this is a collaborative sensemaking approach, including a method and a practice for creating and managing a set of #socialpresence #metadata anchored in and coevolving with both the Online Conversation Community as well as the #bookasecosystem - which can be designed to extend further...

Social Presence: Interviews
One ingredient that would add value to the Social Presence book, would be interviews relevant to particular chapters, particular aspects of #socialpresence :
Walking Between Worlds
A Conversation with Pireeni Sundaralingam
"We live in an era in which community is, increasingly, something that we need to create for ourselves rather than something into which we are born. As a result, I think there is a great hunger to discover how others have walked between worlds. In a way, the specifics of those worlds become less important than the way in which the traveler has attempted to bridge them. And with the growing number of people who are migrants (the United Nations estimates that one in five people on the planet have been displaced), the experience of migration itself—rather than the details of the home country or cu... more »

John Carter and Michael Chabon's 17-year quest
+Charlie Jane Anders :
One major trope in stories like John Carter — and The Martian Agent — is the notion that these now-barbaric societies were once technologically advanced and powerful. I asked Chabon why he thought the trope of the former technological masterminds, reduced to barbarism, is so prevalent, and he says:
I think partly because we are haunted by that prospect ourselves. We can see evidence. As the 19th century turned into the 20th century and archeologists started to press deeper in to the jungles of Central and South America and into the deserts of Mesopotamia and India, they began to encounter clear evidence of many civilizations that had attained some level of techn... more »

People On The Move
a tidal wave of faces,
and a carnival of colours,
a mumble of voices
and a mass of bodies moving
on a seemingly endless trek,
going anywhere and nowhere,
people on the move.

The Just Green Doughnut
OK, that's not the official name for this framework. Let's go with the longer name: The doughnut of social and planetary boundaries.
Here's the basic idea. There are environmental limits within which we, as a species, must live. That's the outer blue circle, and we need to stay inside its inner edge. There are also social equity metrics that we want to achieve. That's the inner blue circle, and we want to be above its outer edge. The space in between these is the just, green doughnut.
At first, I thought it was just a clever graphic. But there is some depth to this framework.

“The painter does not paint on an empty canvas, and neither does the writer write on a blank page; but the page or canvas is already so covered with preexisting, preestablished clichés that it is necessary to erase, to clean, to flatten, even to shred, so as to let in a breath of air from the chaos that brings us the vision.”

We just chatted, sdid some Q&A, shared the odd tidbit and solved the worlds problems, so we didn't record anything.
Let me add a previous Hangout instead, where I had a chat with +Joachim Stroh and +Keith McMean - in which we talk about two things:
1. What could a Business be in a Network Context.
2. Social Presence, a book, a platform, an ecosystem

Zen of Small Tasks: More than the sum of our tasks
Social as a Dynamic Framework
"Social emerges out of interaction, individual agency, inference, information, insights & interdependence."
-- +John Kellden
We don't know yet what an online community is. This I see as very inspiring.
When nature returns to a wasteland after eg a volcanic eruption, there appears a pioneering ecosystem very quickly, which prepares the soil, the humus, for the emergence of a more permanent ecosystem.
Community is the win-win-win of our shared stories
"It is easy to say that each community is the sum of its members. Yes, that’s true. But only when the community fails to rise beyond the technical definition of a collection of individuals. A true community is achieved when the discrete barriers between individuals (which are ... more »

Intuition Pumps and Other Tools for Thinking
"Cognition and life itself depends on millions of cycles within cycles within cycles of recurrent reentrant reflexive information transformation processes ranging from the nanoscale biochemical cycles in each neuron to the generate and test cycles of predictive coding in the perceptual systems, to the whole brain sleep cycle large scale waves of cerebral activity and recovery that are revealed by EEG recordings."
