Had a chance to shoot DJ Shiftee this weekend at a warehouse party. This cat is an absolute turntable destroyer. 2-Time DMC World Champion and Harvard Math grad. I can tell you without a doubt he's one of the most level and down to earth DJs I've met - not a shred of ego in that kid.

So this video is crazy raw since I never really shoot vid on the 7D and I have zero editing software so this is straight off the cam.

So the Violin Monster got in contact with me yesterday. City in Reflection

Here is shot of the 'Bean' in #downtown Chicago. Don't you just love the reflections in this sculpture? I sure do. Usually this place is surrounded by thousands of people during the day but I got down here at 6am. Which as you can see was a perfect time of day to take a shot without a person around. It's real name is the 'Cloud Gate' which most people don't know.

Sometimes it really annoys me that I don't have a zoom lens(70-200mm here I come!!!) for doing street photography(which I think I love most), but then there are the other times where I can shoot really dope pictures(imo) like this from across the street and I'm almost happy again. Almost.

On one of my last days, I figured I'd head down to 6th Street to walk around to do a little shooting. I happened to be taking a shot(in this set) of Heok's Death Metal Pizza next door(Death metal always cracks me up. Add pizza making and head bangers and you've got pure hilarity in my eyes) as he walk walking out of the shop for a smoke.
I walked across the street and introduced myself, told him I was in town from Philly. He mentioned that he was going to be in Philly in February. It instantly clicked in my head since he seems to enjoy the tattoo arts that he was going to be in town for the annual tattoo convention I visit every year. Turns out he's indeed going to be here next month so I got his info and we'll head out for some drinks when he's in town.

Pretty much the only place I saw anything overly XMas related was at the Riverwalk in San Antonio. I thoroughly enjoyed the lack of xmas flair everywhere. VERY much, not an upper east coast thing, where everything is dripping in tinsel for 2 months. gah.

This is Yuka Nippple of Trippple Nippples. They're an electopop band out of Japan. But they're a little more than just an electropop band out of Japan. They are a fucking tour-de-force is what they are. Despite the fact that they didn't squirt cream from their teets or throw rotting spaghetti at us like they've been known to do(in fact, they've been banned from multiple venues worldwide), they put on a show that I will never forget.

I could be wrong but I believe Saturday night was their first US performance ever. It was also one of the most subliminally fantastic pieces of art I've ever seen. The crowd was filled with 20-somethings that I'm pretty sure have no concept of what they just witnessed.

PHILLY Artist Lawren Alice was voted 2011 National Raw Natural Born Visual Artist of the Year. I was at her body painting studio, Gallery ML in Olde City, a couple weekends ago and I can attest that she is the real deal. Absolutely amazing.

The Family Portrait

One thing that was apparent when I went over to Casa de Squid to shoot these fine folks is how much they really, truly care for each other. They are way more normal than people who are supposed to be "normal" ever could be and I wish them nothing but huge things in 2012 and beyond. Seriously. Do yourself a favor and find out if they are doing your town. Their show is incredible and it'll be the best money you spend all year.

This sexy saucy seductress is Betty Bloomerz. Kinda terrifying in the hottest way possible. I love her to death. She is also a sword gulletologist(I just made that up) and a piercer of things that mere mortals tend to shy away from.

At my first Carnivolution show(I'm going to try and make every one in Philly in 2012. You should too), Betty and Jellyboy did a touching set very reminiscent of Lady and the Tramp. Well.... Only if instead of spaghetti, it was a 6 foot long pieces of plastic tubing. And instead of eating the "pasta", they jammed the tubes in and out of each other's mouths and noses until they were effectively Siamese twins and then finish by inserting one end of the tube into a glass of orange juice and then watch it magically disappear. This man is Matterz Squidling. He has never seen a bed of nails he didn't want to impale himself on or a walkway of glass he didn't want to sadistically stomp through. This dude does pain like no other. Probably because not many others will lay on glass, have a heavy(confirmed! We accidentally almost killed him with it during the shoot. Whoops!) bed o nails on top of him, a heavy(ALSO CONFIRMED) anvil placed on top of that while Betty smashes said anvil with a sledgehammer.

This is Penguin. No idea why they call him that but it is what it is. If you have a nice screwdriver or condom, keep it away from him unless you want to see them rammed in and around his nose and mouth areas. Also a master with a cutlass. He may be small but he's hugely entertaining.
