Battlefield Stories

Had a great chat with a gate guard at Oakwood University (a quite distinguished older gentleman) on my lunch break this afternoon.  He came out of the guard house when I parked off to the side of the entryway, so with a smile I said, "I suppose you'd like to know what I'm doing?"  He said yes, so I gave him the penny tour - phone game, gps, portals, blue vs green.  He was friendly and interested, if a little puzzled.  I expressed surprise that I was the first player he’d seen, since that portal has changed hands a couple of times in the last few weeks.

At one point, after I showed him my phone he looked in the general direction of the portal and said, "You say there's a portal there, but I don't see anything..."  :)

The uncropped original edit of this shot has a very different feel, and my intention with this edit was simply to show my own reflecttion in the eye.  But in the end, I though the result stood on its own.  :)

About me: Project Manager by day, photographer as a passionate hobby, learning playground, and sidelight (pun un-intended, but intentionally left in place).    

Portrait photography is my first love, so I think a lot about rendering the eyes and capturing the expression and emotion that often rests there for a moment.  Windows to the soul, the poets say, and I agree.

Now that I say that, please don't think from my self portrait here that I'm a dead-eyed, emotionless sociopath.  In reality, I'm a downright jolly laugh riot of a sociopath.  ;)

So the paper towel dispensers at work make you wait 10-15 seconds after you tear the towel off before the motion sensor re-arms to dispense another one.

Today while waiting to get a second towel I thought... "cool down".

I'm more of a portrait photographer than a headshot specialist, but hey, I like getting in close, so lots of my portraits are headshots.  I'm working on/exploring lighting technique, but this available light image is one of my favorites and my way of saying "Hi!" to the community.  :)

GIMP Post Processing - Before & After.  Finally connected with a fellow +GIMP user in +Charlotte Therese Björnström and we were discussing techniques learned from Photoshop tuts (which are MUCH more plentiful than GIMP photo manipulation/retouch tuts) and translated to the GIMP.

This is the before and after on one such image.  Though I can't remember where the PS tut was, the GIMP easily handled the color blending I wanted.

OK, so we all know Sue Bryce is a genius at coaxing the best shots out of models who are not professionals.  

I loved this post and the shots in it, but I was puzzled by the phrase "connect the shoulder" .  I'm sure it's one of her catch-phrases, like "chin down" but I couldn't figure out what it meant and was at a loss to find an earlier post that explained it.

So, can anyone tell me what she means by "Connect the Shoulder"?  Thanks!
