Strandarkirkja
thats the name of this beautiful little church I found yesterday. Its in one of my favourite area in Iceland, the south part of the country but my first time there yesterday. I had seen photos of this little church and decided to drive there yesterday and wow this place blew me away. The church is located just by the ocean and there is nothing else there. You can hear the sound of the big waves crashing and the sound of the nature and birds as well. Unfortunately I didn´t have much time so I had to go back sooner than I wanted. I will go again soon.

ok Google+ is a mess after the latest update Still having problem uploading and can´t properly upload to the correct album (still have to move my image afterwards into the album) and now if I choose a certain circle to view in my stream just old photos show up uhhh.

a scared friend
last summer I stayed in this holiday house in west Iceland. Every evening I heard this sound, sound from this little one, like it was scared or looking for someone. The lamb was always alone and I thought probably it has lost his mom. I tried to approach it but it was too scared and always ran away. This was the closes I got.

I always see faces in the icelandic nature and this is always what I see when Im viewing this spot. Dont know about you ?!?
This image is from the south coast nearby the famous "Dyrhólaey" cliff. this beach is so beautiful an gives one endless opportunities to shoot and or just relax and enjoy.

barnafoss or childrens-fall
Many Icelandic folk tales have been associated with Barnafoss, the most famous being about two boys from a nearby farm, Hraunsás. One day, the boys' parents went with their ploughmen to a church. The boys were supposed to stay at home, but as they grew bored they decided to follow their parents. They made a shortcut and crossed a natural stone-bridge that was above the waterfall. But on their way, they felt dizzy and fell into the water and drowned. When their mother found out what had happened, she put a spell on the bridge saying that nobody would ever cross it without drowning himself. A little while later, the bridge was demolished in an earthquake.

good friends
those of you that have been to Iceland knows that there are so many horses all around the country. You dont have to drive long until you see the next group of horses. The best part is that they are very friendly and curious and its very easy to approach them and be friendly with them. Just give them some grass, talk to them or just smile and be nice and they will do the same (maybe not the grass part though:))

gloomy day
this image is taken on a very gloomy morning last summer when I was travelling in west part of Iceland, Borgarfjordur. Its in the area of "Deildartunguhver".
Deildartunguhver thermal spring is the largest of its kind in Iceland. The water temperature can be as high as 100ºC, and the spring produces 180 litres of water per second. This thermal energy has been well utilized, and is used to heat houses in Akranes, 64km away and Borgarnes, 34km away. The area around the spring grows a variety of fern which does not grow anywhere else in Iceland. The spring is protected by the government and so remains unspoilt and is an interesting place to visit

2012 summer memories
Last summer is in my mind right now, both photos and memories. maybe because I see and feel the summer of 2013 is slowly ticking in. Can´t wait to go out and stay out in the countryside in the most beautiful light ever and dont need to think about to hurry because the light is not going anywhere. It just stays there 24 hours. How amazing !
This photo is taken in a beautiful place in the west part of Iceland, Borgarfjordur, waterfall called Hraunfossar" (meaning lava falls). Its one of many magic places you can find in Iceland.

this photo is taken on a beautiful island called Videy which is located right outsite Reykjavík city. You just jump on board and sail for 5 min and there you are. You can hike around the island and enjoy some beautiful beaches, birds and flora and even horses (ofcourse). The city can also be viewed from there. There is a very cool restaurant on the island in a beautiful old house and in winter time you can enjoy the so called imagine peace tower light. I highly recommend taking some time there if you are staying in Reykjavík

still frozen

everything is still frozen and cold in Iceland and in the North the snow is still massive. They say its the coldest spring for a long time and people in the North have had constanst snow for 8 months now and it seems that its not going away according to the forecast.

Icelanders used to believe in those creatures and it was said the elves and dwarfs lived in stones like these. Today there are still people who believe in this stuff and even so strongly that they refuse to move stones like you see in this picture because its said that if you do the little people will be angry and sad

sunset and lava
@Kjalarnes west part of Iceland
went to this place one night with high hopes shooting sunset but it wasn´t quite as expected i.e. the shooting part. I enjoyed the sunset very much though and viewing the ocean too. For some reason Im very much attracted to lava maybe not a surprise where its all over Iceland, lava and moss.

my parents live in the house my grandfather built about 100 years ago. I grew up there, a beautiful house with a big garden and so many beautiful trees and flowers in it. Those are trees with a story and I always have the feeling they are protecting one with their big beautiful branches. Great memories from this place :)

Im creating a new album called the countryside. In there Im gonna put images from the countryside (ofcourse), photos that may not necessarily include much except some grass, fence, mailbox, a little house, abandoned houses etc., something that is typical for the icelandic countryside, can be anything. Those images describe Iceland very well in a way but are not from the most popular tourist attractions. So here we go!

gateway to the famous plane wreck
sunset at big black beach Sólheimasandur, south Iceland (14.4.2013)
beautiful sunset and the track leading to the abandoned plane wreck. Other worldly when there is no grass anymore and just endless black sand. Had such a great time with +Arthur Chang and +Karen Grubb driving this path, shooting the plane and listen to the very appropriate icelandic band Sigur Ros (and drinking a little rum to keep us warm:))

Yesterday I had the opportunity to meet up with +Arthur Chang and +Karen Grubb who are visiting Iceland for the first time. It was so great to meet them and do a little road trip on the south coast. Our trip was mostly about wrecks because we found this old ship wreck, then we saw a car wreck and ofcourse we drove to the plane wreck too. The beautiful Karen did this graceful jump. How awesome is this and the weather changed for us from being stormy cold to this beautiful sunny warm day. thank you both for a great day and keep enjoying Iceland.

frozen frozen still frozen but beautiful. Öxarárfoss is a small waterfall in Þingvellir National Park, Iceland. It flows from the river Öxará. The base of the waterfall is filled with rocks and is often very icy in winter.

hot and cold
totally frozen surroundings while the burning hot 100°c geyser is boiling and waiting to erupt. People standing by and waiting. The last week has been very cold and frosty in Iceland and we even had some snow in some areas of the country. Yesterday we took a trip to the so called "Golden circle" which includes the National park Thingvellir and Gullfoss and Geysir. After I came home I discovered that my camera was not set on RAW. I always shoot raw and never change my settings so I figured out that the people that just cleaned my camera must have changed it

we were not cold :-)
today I had the opportunitiy to spend the day with those four fab +Simon Doughty +Mabry Campbell +Daniel Sjostrom and +Jaycee Crawford. Mabry was so happy that he jumped and flew the whole time. I drove back home after the day but they kept on with their journey to the south coast of Iceland. I wish them luck and fun in the coming days and hope I can meet them before they fly back home again. These images were taken by waterfall Gullfoss that was totally frozen like us.

we still dont have much spring flowers due to the cold so I shot this one I saw from last fall. Getting a little bit dry but its still a flower.
