OccupyKC Rally - Sunday, October 9

Happy Sunday, Plussers. I was in a foul mood this morning. Honestly. I was cranky. I needed coffee. It was a rather cranky morning. I'm only human. I can't be cheerful all the time. :)

I came down to the OccupyKC rally. I drove in from the South. I wasn't sure what I was going to see. What I was going to find.

As I drove down the hill towards the park, a slow smile started to spread across my face. There are so many people here. Normal people. Hippies. Conservatives. There's a couple that referred to themselves as "religious tailgaiters". Baby boomers. 4 year olds. Dogs. Chairs. A Hot dog vendor. A band.

I've counted very roughly at least 200 people here. This is MUCH more like it.

It is peaceful. It is happy. It is family oriented. This is Midwestern protesting. :D

OccupyKC - Day 3

There's noticeably more organization and activity here. The occupation has supplies. It has a support network creeping in. There are dogs, children, and responsible adults. Documenters. Like this one.

I will be sharing a couple of videos in a bit here. I want to get back to a more stable network link before putting them up.

The message is still quite scattered. I'm planning on interviewing some more of the participants selectively, to encapsulate a bit of their stories.

A man just came in from NY, NY. It's amazing to me, as well of most of the people here, how many folks we talk to don't know that the Brooklyn Bridge has been shut down. That 500+ people have been arrested. There are oral legends being created. I wonder how much of it is verifiable. Why is it that only non-journalists like me are "covering" these... more »

After much ado (to put it nicely), our new, uncompromised, bulletproof and strictly transparent WePay is ready. If you feel we are doing it right, feel free to show your support by donating. And as always, if we are not doing it right, you are always welcome to come show us how you roll.

Click the link below to get to our ONLY "official" (i.e. consensus-approved) website, occupykc.NET, which has a button on the right-hand side to the ONLY online donation method that goes directly to the Treasury Working Group, which answers to the Occupy KC General Assembly. (Anyone else asking for money on our behalf online probably has nefarious motives.)

Yours in the perpetual quest for the recovery of our democracy, among other things,

Occupy KC Media

Look at +Occupy KC all on the front page of +Think Progress! (Pretty sure none of those people are unemployed, by the way.)

We should probably get to disassembling these before they put us in them.

Greetings from Anonymous,

On December 17th, we invite every Occupy protester, Anon, and Citizen to march in a day of solidarity and remembrance.

December 17 will mark the anniversary of many historic events: three months since the beginning of the Occupy movement; the one-year anniversary of the death of Mohamed Bouazizi, the Tunisian man whose self-immolation initiated the first of protests which became the Tunisian Revolution, and eventually cascaded into the Arab Spring; and 24 years since the birth of Bradley Manning, the army private accused of leaking classified information to Wikileaks. Manning's first hearing is scheduled for Dec 16, 586 days after his arrest, where he will face a military panel who will decide if he will go to trial.

Bradley Manning's alleged transfer of sensitive information to Wikileaks allowed the organization to release diplomatic cables... more »

OccupyKC - Day 4
Participant Interview - Brandyn Alexander

This is +Brandyn Alexander . He's a young man from Lawrence, KS who's participating in the OccupyKC group. As he was organizing the food supplies and keeping the main prep area clean today, I asked if he could take a minute to share his story with all of us.

This is a bright young man. Depending on your perception of the Occupy movement and what you've heard so far, you might be surprised at his answers to some of my questions.

Also, at the end ( in case you don't watch all the way ), I asked him about some of the supply needs he sees. If you want to help or support this movement, make sure you listen to that bit, or find their list of needed ongoing supplies at http://occupykc.com/

Turning it over to Brandyn...
