With all the coverage of the US government spying on its citizens, the US Postal Service could really give themselves a boost by running this as an ad.

Two how-to's in this article: how to get iOS 7 beta on your phone or iPod Touch, and how to get your paws on Xcode 4.6.3.
Remember: iOS 7 is currently a developer preview. If you're in the business of making iOS apps (or getting into the business of iOS apps), go ahead and put it on your phone -- you need the advance look, and you know the risks. If you just want an advance look, wait for the ready-for-public-consumption edition.
Also: while the embargo on showing stuff inside iOS 7 is still up, I'm going to talk about iOS 7 development by showing iOS 6 development. Hence the "how to install the current Xcode" segment.

In case you missed it: the "Mobile is Eating the World" slide deck, created by Benedict Evans of Enders Analysis. Lots of useful stats, and a great name for Amazon/Apple/Facebook/Google: "The Four Horsemen".

Here's a great slide deck talking about how big the future of mobile tech is. The only reason it didn't get more play in the tech press is that it was given at BookExpo America, a conference for the book publishing industry.
It explains its thesis through graphs, and it's quite layperson-friendly. If you need fodder for a presentation on the mobile industry, are a programmer wondering whether you should start taking up mobiel development, or if you're trying to pitch your mobile startup to investors, give this a look.

4 out 5 of those surveyed check their smartphones within 15 minutes of waking up; if you restrict this set of people to only those between the ages of 18 and 24, that figure becomes 9 out of 10. These and other smartphone stats in a new IDC report commissioned by Facebook.

It's always tempting to take a pot-shot at your audience when they're unhappy with what you're doing, but it seldom pays off. Oh, Robbie Bach and J Allard, where are you when we need you most?

I nearly missed this -- in addition to Canada's first same-sex wedding ten years ago, I played a small part (the accordion played a much bigger part) in a same-sex wedding at Toronto City Hall and wrote about it six years ago today. Congrats, Julie and Amanda!

Enough with these hippy-dippy vegetarian/vegan cooking sites -- I much prefer THUG KITCHEN, which brings some gangsta style to healthy eating. Whether you eat only plants or eat meat but like side dishes, you'll love these recipes!

Repeating this post for the people who weren't up at midnight. The PlayStation 4 process for sharing and playing used games is a good deal simpler than the very roundabout, user-unfriendly way Microsoft set up for the Xbox One. It's as if they took every good lesson from the Xbox 360 and threw them away.

Oh, snap. Sony just scored some big console gamer love over Microsoft. It's like the previous console war in reverse, when Microsoft was making all the right moves and Sony was making all the wrong ones.

Matthew Heimback is a new-school organized racism kind of guy. He thinks the KKK and neo-Nazis are "low-rent thugs" and "an embarrassment". He's never been seen saying the "N-word" or any other racial epithet. He's just looking out for white people, the most-hard-done-by, most-maligned, most-underprivileged ethnic group out there.
In response to what he called a rise in "black crime" at Towson University -- despite crime being at an all-time low -- he and the White Student Union formed a patrol to keep his beleaguered race safe. VICE followed them around and put together an article and a video. Read, watch, and be appalled.

Fourth installment in "Support My Friends Saturday": Caroline R. Fabacher, whom I met last year in Austin, is putting together a blog for young professional women called Taste Bluebook. I think it's a perfect fit for the age of "Lean In", and I'm more than happy to throw my support behind someone with so much ambition. Check it out!

Support My Friends" Saturday, part 3: Did you rely on Google Reader? Have you wondered what you could use instead now that Google's closing it down? Wonder no more, because Jamie Gilgen's coded up Yoleo Reader, a better-designed, better thought-out, more beautiful feed reader. You can even import your old Google Reader feeds into it!
Best of all, it's free -- but go support it for a mere $9/year because both the software and its creator are awesome.

"Support My Friends Saturday" on the Accordion Guy blog continues with Alexander's Philly Kitchen Party, a good time for a good cause. My friends Ashley Bristowe and Chris Turner are raising funds to help their son Alexander get the therapy he needs for his rare genetic condition, Kleefstra Syndrome.
They're holding a fundraiser tonight in Calgary in the best east coast kitchen party style, with comedy, bands and cheese steaks. If you're in Calgary and looking for something fun and worthwhile to do tonight, this is it!

It's "Support My Friends" Saturday on the Accordion Guy blog! I'm going to write about what some of my friends are working on and how and why you should support their projects.
First up: Matt Kantor -- his restaurant, Bero, opens in Leslieville in July. Can't wait to try it out!
