It Doesn't Matter How Brilliant an Idea is, if Nobody Understands it.

Nobody thinks in exactly the same manner as you, meaning multiple individuals can read the exact same material, yet visualize completely different ideas in their heads. So, to lead innovation, introduce change, or simply present a concept to people (your team, investors, etc), it can be immensely helpful to pair it with a stunning visualization.

Medical Malpractice Advice - Ovarian Cancer

Does anyone know a lot about --- or know someone who does know a lot about --- Medical Law? Specifically, knowledge on malpractice lawsuits...

My Mom was diagnosed in 1995 with endometriosis, and as a result, her doctor performed a complete hysterectomy. With endometriosis, sometimes doctors will try and leave one of the ovaries, if possible, since ovaries create all estrogen in women's body.

- no ovaries = no estrogen.

- No estrogen = the person has to take supplements for the rest of their life.

With my mom, however, the doctor said saving both ovaries was not possible. Therefore, he immediately started her on estrogen hormone replacement medication, which she's taken ever since.

Two years ago, her bloodwork came back as positive for Ovarian Cancer. She believed that the blood people made some kind of mistake... it's impossible to have ovarian cancer without ovaries.

The doctors took a look around inside to figure out what the deal way, and it turns out that, even though her doctor from 1995 was supposed to remove both ovaries, and medicated her accordingly, he did not remove one of her ovaries.

So, although the doctor had no malicious intention, as direct result of his negligence, my mom developed a terminal disease. A lot of these cases have a lot of grey area and room for interpretation. However, not in this case:

The doctor was paid to remove both ovaries, claimed he did, and medicated my mom in the way consistent with that (if he intentionally left an ovary in, he wouldn't have needed to prescribe estrogen supplements to her, since too much increases the likelihood of ovarian and breast cancer.

She, my dad, and I have no interest in the money... I'm in the process of starting a company and will have more than all of us could ever need, but that's not relevant, either. It's the point of the issue. As a result of his error, she is now going to die at a much younger age.

Something needs to be done, to lessen the chances of that happening to anyone else in the future.

Any help = amazing! Thanks,

Chris

YouTube Logo Suggestion

This picture is obviously a joke, since the comments for YouTube videos had a very spam-filled troll haven (It keeps improving). However, this joke picture caught my attention to something I hadn't noticed before.

Now, I know this is a subtle thing that 99.9% of the population wouldn't notice or care, except for perhaps whoever happens to be in charge of +YouTube (If I knew, I'd have sent a private message).

This is petty and small, but you should never stop chasing perfection, when it comes to design.

The You" and *Tube are, in my opinion, too far apart. It makes it look like the brand is "You Tube," instead of "YouTube." My suggestion is to have the red box surrounding "Tube" underlap slightly with the end of "You," to bring the two words closer together.

Experience Designing the Workplace

A hot topic in modern business, Customer Experience has an equally important cousin: Employee Experience.

What is Employee Experience?

Employee experience is using a blend of psychology, personality types, observable behavior, interests, mental and physical ability, styles of learning, game theory, and gamification to create a custom tailored workplace.

Everything that can be customized to increase a person or group’s effectiveness will be customized.

Christopher Nolan's Interstellar - Official Trailer

We've always defined ourselves by our ability to overcome the impossible, and we count these moments.

These moments: when we dare to aim higher, to break barriers, to reach for the stars, or to make the unknown known. We counted these moments as our proudest achievements, but we've lost all that.

Perhaps, we've just forgotten that we are still pioneers and that we've barely begun. Our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us, because our destiny lies above us...

Batman VS Superman - [First Look] - Ben Affleck Wearing the New Batsuit Next to the New Batmobile

I'm not as upset --- about Affleck being cast to play my favorite superhero --- as I initially was. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, although it does concern me that Christopher Nolan didn't continue to serve as Executive Producer of all #Batman and #Superman projects.

It's unrealistic to expect someone so creative and talented to keep directing one franchise forever. At least with Man of Steel, he didn't direct the movie, but still oversaw the creative vision and have the final call.

Either Nolan wasn't keen on continuing to be involved, he had creative disagreements with Warner Bros, or WB cut him out to save $$$.

How do you feel about Affleck as the Caped Crusader?

... About Nolan's departure from the series?

In addition to Lex Luther, who has been confirmed to be played by Jesse Eisenberg (awesome casting!), do you expect any Bat villains? Who?

Google has had the #glassexplorers program, which allows individuals to purchase #Glass for personal use, but they have also donated pairs of +Google Glass to various industries and professions.

This was to see which industries found usage of the device beneficial, right out of the box. By "right out of the box," I mean using the product as it currently exists, which is essentially glasses with a built in camera and a display that projects an Augmented Reality menu to navigate (along with a few basic apps).

The Future of Glass

Possibilities are endless. Along with releasing the base models of #Glass, Google also released Glass's API. This means that, as we speak, developers from all over the world are testing out and building Apps made specifically for the device.

In general, it's mutually understood that eventually #Glass will be able to (at least):

1. Automatically identify objects and people, using facial recognition and object recognition (remember Google Googles?).

2. Determine which objects or people are relevant to the user.

3. Present useful data, relevant to the user, about the world around them, in an augmented overlay.

All of this will happen in real time, and only in ways that will help the user. It will be possible, but horrific, for #Glass to identify everything in view and present information about it. The idea is that #Glass will become smart enough to know when to present what info:

"Technology that's there when you need it, and invisible when you don't." This is my paraphrasing of Glass's original mission statement, and is the entire reason for its existence. The idea is that technology is awesome and helps us in so many ways, but has negatively affected our social behavior. We text and drive, text and walk, text and eat, surf and poop, google while having conversations, and are constantly looking down at a screen.

With glass, we're accepting that technology is too beneficial and enjoyable to eliminate from our lives. We're also accepting that our current set up is not an ideal one. We're smarter, more globally connected, and more productive, but at the expense of being less social (in real life) and less engaged in our surroundings.

Wearable Technology is Born to Bring us the Best of Both Worlds

With wearable tech devices, such as Glass, we do not have to choose either being immersed in technology or being engaged in the real world. We will be able to have our cake and eat it too. Getting to that point will take a bit of time, advancement of the technology, trial and error, and lots of tweaking (not twerking). However, it is a certainty, as all of the foundational building blocks are there.

Come back in a decade, and you'll see a different, improved society.

The Medical Industry has demonstrated the strongest immediate benefit of utilizing this new technology. The video/audio and communication capabilities of Glass are the primary functions being used, currently, but more uses will come...

Doctors Using Glass ~2024:

- A doctor, wearing #Glass, walks into a patients room.

- Glass automatically identifies the patient, using facial recognition.

- Glass pulls up the patient's medical records.

- Glass displays the most relevant aspects of the records in an augmented overlay being projected directly into the doctor's eye, so only he can see the info.

- The doctor says, "OK Glass, let's do a physical exam."

- Glass opens up a medical app for performing physicals on patients.

- The questions that the doctor needs to ask the patient pop up in his display.

- As he asks the questions, Glass records the patient's responses, converting speech to text, filling out the exam.

- After the questions are complete, Glass displays the next steps for the doctor (i.e. Check blood pressure, heart rate, reflexes, temperature, earcheck, throat check, etc.).

- In real time, the Medical app is not only filling out the forms automatically, it is trained to spot certain patterns.

- This advanced pattern recognition compares live, incoming data, the patient's history, and a database of medical knowledge, #Glass pops up a recommended diagnosis of the patient.

Yes, I know exactly what I'm implying. This gadget, considered a high tech, $1,500 novelty toy by the mainstream, could essentially replace doctors (as we know them, now). I don't think doctors will be eliminated, by any means, but I do see a future where Medical school is 2 - 4 years, of schooling plus another 2 - 4 years of hands on training.

Google Glass will be the Calculators of the Medical Industry (and several other industries):

You can do complicated math problems, manually, but why would you waste the time? Do it quick on the calculator, reduce time and errors, and then spend the extra time doing something actually beneficial.

Same as the future of medicine. Keep doctors, but will it be necessary for that much schooling, memorizing hoards of information, to make a diagnosis that a device can do faster and more accurately?

Doctors of the Future -  - Learn the basics of the industry.
- Become a master of the tools.
- Reduce education expense and time.
- Improve ability to diagnose complex illnesses (Some illnesses may be so complex that they currently cannot be discovered).

Also, utilize the exponentially increased productivity to:

- Personalize treatment.
- Invest more in research.
- Provide medical care in places of the world with a shortage of doctors.

Google Glass is Going to Medical School

The University of California at Irvine (UCI) School of Medicine announced that it's integrating the iconic wearable tech into its four-year curriculum for medical students.

Glass Finds its First Professional Home

Google has had the #glassexplorers program, which allows individuals to purchase #Glass for personal use, but they have also donated pairs of +Google Glass to various industries and professions.

This was to see which industries found usage of the device beneficial, right out of the box. By "right out of the box," I mean using the product as it currently exists, which is essentially glasses with a built in camera and a display that projects an Augmented Reality menu to navigate (along with a few basic apps).

- A doctor, wearing #Glass , walks into a patients room.

Google+ Profile Enhancement:

- Include interests on the main profile page.

- Allow users to select interests they are interested in.

- The interest graph adjusts the strength of each topic, based on what posts the user +1's and reshares.

This allows users to glance at different profiles and get an idea of if they want to circle the person.

We live in an attention-starved society, so although it'd be nice to read a well thought-out essay describing every aspect of themselves in detail, but the harsh reality is that nobody on the planet wants to read that.

They want:

1. An attractive profile photo.
2. A catchy tag line.
3. Infographic-like display of their interests and likes.
4. When you click on one of the topics, it pulls up 2 columns:

I). All posts of that topic created by the user.
II). All posts of that topic +1'd, commented on, or reshared.

Which Major Springfield Resident Will Die Next Season?

Simpsons fans got a big step closer to narrowing down which character will die in the upcoming season 26 this week, when voice actor Hank Azaria confirmed "it's not one of mine."

Show bosses' announcement that a major character would be killed off this autumn led to much speculation online as to which long-serving Springfield resident it would be.

Azaria remained tight-lipped over their identity, but was able to considerably shorten the list of those up for the chop.

Dear #Picasa ,

Please finish the complete integration with +Google+ Photos. I installed +Google+ Photos on my PC, and it was the perfect blend of simplicity, features, and usability. Then, I received a warning, saying that the application was designed only for Chromebooks.

Google+ Photos should be a separate app on iOS and Mobile from the +Google+ app. I think that a significant problem with the Google+ app having so many issues, it taking forever to do anything, and it completely not working on the iPhone, is because it is far too "bloated."

Facebook Has the Same Issues

It's not just the mobile applications, either. Problems stand out more on the mobile apps, because both social networks are bloated with a huge amount of integrated features. On both of their websites, as well as their mobile apps, it takes way too long to do things.

Suggestion for Google:

Break down Google+ into a few feature-specific applications:

- Google+ - The "main" app. It will still include the ability to go to "Photos," for example, but instead of sluggishly trekking to a different section of the same app, it launches the Google+ Photos app.
- Google+ Photos
- Google+ Communities
- Google+ People - Organize circles, discover contacts, see who's added you, etc.
- Google+ Events
- Hangouts
- YouTube
