matthew rappaport147,898499 +Google+ ers that are RELEVANT to me according to the PLUSarithmThis MEGA +Shared Circles on G+ is literally the 1st 499 names that are listed when RELEVANCE is selected and 'Your Circles' is clicked under https://plus.google.com/circles (very close to it!)There are 15 that I didn't include in the circle but made the cut that are celebs or pages that I will list below as I wanted to share more users overall in this #sharedcircle  which is almost entirely full of WIN.It is interesting that the first couple of rows are a mix of people I spent more time with in the beginning and with people I spend more time with now (which has interlap!) and of course how does one define 'spent time with' when talking about a social network place but the stream, hangouts, gtalk, +H.I.R.L., etc. The algorithm is not there yet to take note of all the data let alone measuring offline interaction but I tend to +mention people (a page in the Top 499, left out of this circle) a few people now and again, it seems the more you do that with a person or page, the more relevant they are to you in this list. I wonder if that data showing how many times you tagged someone and them you will be available in the future and if so, everyone can expect that number to be high for most from me!I do find it curious that +G+ Interviews which is a page started by +Peter G McDermott that I was helping with takes up my number 3 spot when I haven't tagged it in so long or done much with it in a bit nor felt I ever interacted with it to any level compared with those surrounding it. It's not a perfect system for sure and we all might have ones that slip through the crack that make us go, "Why is this person more relevant or WHO is this person?!"I am the +1 in this circle but everyone else is the +1000 zombies that +byron rempel will turn UNDEAD  +1000 that rocks the PLUS. I can vouchfor almost all the content being interesting, all the people though, that might be another ... WOAH :)~+Having said that, I will produce the next 500 Relevance Ci2013-01-04 19:14:28499403744CC G+

AJ Durling294This is a bonus circle, and is actually pretty much where I started when I was creating my first circles - Top 500 PlussersIt is the people with the highest number of users - and is actually now only 308 people. When I first collected the Top 500 Plussers on Google+, I spend a lot of time weeding out the people whose posts in which I didn't particularly have an interest (e.g. almost all of the photographers - nothing against people who post photos to G+, it's just me: this is Google+, not Flickr; people who only ever promote themselves - so quite a lot of the pop musicians). The list that is left are people who, I think, actually contribute to the stream. You may find some surprising choices (Dolly Parton?! Actually, yes!). But I hope you enjoy it.I've kept the name Top 500 even though it is a lot fewer than 500. I like the irony... #circleshare   #sharedcircles   #celebrity   #topcircles  2012-10-19 15:06:56307302CC G+

AJ Durling03) Third out of the circles I thought I might share today - Google EmployeesThis is a small list of people who work for Google (at least, I think they do... please correct me if I'm wrong!) and post interesting stuff. It includes (and is, in fact, predominantly) a selection of Google+ employees - I will be sharing just those employees in their own, special circle in just a minute. If you like this, share it; if you don't, ignore it. #Google   #googleemployees   #googleplus   #googleplusemployees   #circleshare   #sharedcircles  2012-10-19 15:02:39117000CC G+

The circle has grown a bit too big and there are some new additions to this one but some may be left out since there is a limit of 501 to share (This is looking like an All Star Circle Lately!). Jason Wells13,970Top 100 Unverified (v1)on the cuspI've always been a little intrigued by the concept of a "verified user." Ostensibly to ensure the true identity of the person behind a profile, it also serves as a validation of notability, social success or even celebrity. At this point in time, almost 6900 Google+ users have the checkmark. And while Google verifies users according to their own criteria, everyone above a certain number of followers is verified. As it happens, right now that certain number is about 588,000.This is I believe a unique list: the top 100 people, ranked by follower count, that are at or below that line. In other words, the people who are just about to get on Google's verification radar. So it ranges from +Maria Popova, with roughly 588k followers, to +Matt Steiner, with about 39k.It's an interesting group of people, predominantly photographers or other visual artists. Some of them are quite good. There's a broad swathe of nationalities represented. Interestingly, most of them are people I haven't seen on G+ before, although there are a few familiar faces. What unites them all is that they're all very close to earning their checkmarks. As they get verified, people will fall out of this circle, so I expect to change often. So I'll reshare this circle periodically with the refreshed top 100 unchecked folks. I encourage you to reshare it too.(Props to +Chris Macidis, my technical collaborator.)2012-07-16 14:58:18100515CC G+

Can't stop looking at this. These things are practically flying. Yet turning on a dime.

From Wikipedia:
The AC72 (America's Cup 72 class) is a wing sail catamaran box rule, governing the construction and operation of the yachts to be used in the 2013 Louis Vuitton Cup selection series and the 2013 America's Cup. This new and revolutionary design is extremely expensive and has allowed the development of foils that lift the hull out of the water, in some conditions leading to extreme boat speeds well over 40 knots (74 km/h; 46 mph).
It was expected to sail faster than the wind: upwind at 1.2 times the speed of the true wind, and downwind at 1.6 times the speed of the true wind. But in fact it proved faster, averaging about 1.8 times the speed of the wind with peaks slightly over 2.3. New photo features in Google+ for Android

Today’s update to Google+ for Android is all about photos. In particular, the app includes:

Non-destructive photo editing across devices
Starting today you can start your edits on one device, and continue (or start over) on another. This means you can backup full-resolution photos from your desktop, edit them in seconds on your phone, then add some finishing touches from your tablet. (And you can revert to your originals at any time!) The technical term for this experience is non-destructive editing in the cloud, and we think you'll really enjoy it.

Brand new filters and creative tools
Now when you edit your photos, you’ll have a powerful set of tools (like crop and rotate), 1-touch filters, and Snapseed-inspired enhancements (like Drama, Retrolux, and HDR Scape). Mix and match to make yourpho... more »

Two new kinds of #AutoAwesome: Twinkle and Snow

Just in time for the holidays, we’re rolling out two new ways to make your Google+ photos more awesome, automatically:

1) Twinkle: upload a new photo of something that sparkles (like a Christmas tree or a chandelier), and we'll gift you a version with lights that actually twinkle.

2) Snow: upload a new photo with snow to Google+, and we'll gift you a version with snow that’s actually falling.

In both cases, you'll get a notification when your #AutoAwesome image is ready. We hope these features help you celebrate the ‘wonder’ in winter wonderland! #googleplusupdate

Melting steel with copper tubing: When a strong electric current runs through the copper, it acts as an electromagnet, holding the steel slug aloft. Then the electrical resistance of the steel converts part of the electrical energy into heat. Quiet a lot of heat.

We just updated our Transparency Report, showing how many requests Google gets for information about its users. But we're not allowed to give the full story because the U.S. government says that requests under the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) must be kept secret. We can tell you this: Requests have more than doubled around the world since 2009, and more than tripled in the U.S.: http://g.co/u5sp

Google's Magic Picture Machine goes beyond science fiction.

Science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke said that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." But even Clarke never envisioned Google’s Magic Picture Machine.

The new Google+ photo and video features announced today by +Vic Gundotra are obviously an incredible benefit to users, unlike anything else out there.

But can we take a moment to marvel at the technology behind it?

Let's start with a magic trick:

Improving RAW-to-JPEG conversion on Google+

We've supported full-size photo backups for almost a year now, and as a result many of you have been storing your RAW images on Google+. Of course: any time you view RAW files we convert them to JPEGs -- to optimize the file size, and keep the service fast.

Starting today, and thanks to +Nik Photography, our RAW-to-JPEG conversion is now significantly improved. RAW images from more than 70 different cameras will look better as a result (full list below), and we’re tuning additional models over time.

Try uploading your own RAW image, and let us know what you think! From there you can edit the JPEG copy as much as you'd like with our new editor (http://goo.gl/6QKhqW), and download the original RAW file whenever you want. #googleplusupdate

Five enhancements to Auto Enhance

Auto Enhance makes improvements to every photo you add to Google+, highlighting important details and helping your images look their best. Today we're upgrading Auto Enhance in five important ways, making your photos even more beautiful:

1) It does a better job of illuminating faces, even in darker exposures.
2) It's better at removing color casts (like the blue-ish “haze” you might see in your snowboarding pics).
3) It identifies and lightens shadows, especially in landscape images.
4) It selectively brightens night scenes, keeping the focus on your main subject.
5) And… it uses skin tones to calibrate other enhancements like fill light and warmth, ensuring a natural look and feel.

To give Auto Enhance a try, simply upload some photos then view them in thelightb... more »

Get creative with the new photo editing tools in Google+

Sometimes a photo needs a little extra touch to truly stand out. To help you customize your images, we’re launching new photo editing tools right within Google+. They’re all based on the power of Snapseed, and available in the Chrome browser (thanks to its Native Client technology). Here are a few of the fun things you can do:

* Auto Enhance already makes the photos you add to Google+ look great. Now you can customize and fine tune these adjustments if you have a different look in mind.
* Selective adjust lets you make edits to specific parts of your image, so you can make that summer sky look even more blue without affecting the beach in the foreground.
* Filters like Vintage, Drama, Retrolux or Black and White give your photos a new look. Add the finishing touch with a frame.

Google has been engaged in a massive, concerted, expensive effort to protect user data from the NSA.  And +Eric Grosse is finally talking about it in public.  Google is treating dragnet surveillance by Government as a threat akin to advanced, persistent threats by cyber criminals.

The article notes that this is not perfect security and it does nothing for Google's legal requirement to comply with legal warrants (including National Security Letters). But it raises the bar and raises the cost of illegal or unwarranted surveillance.  As it should.

I don't know how to stop the NSA from destroying what little credibility is left in the US Government.  But I'm proud to be working at a place that's at least trying to slow them down.

Saw this online and thought it definitely worth sharing:

The English are feeling the pinch in relation to recent events in Syria and have therefore raised their security level from "Miffed" to "Peeved." Soon, though, security levels may be raised yet again to "Irritated" or even "A Bit Cross." The English have not been "A Bit Cross" since the blitz in 1940 when tea supplies nearly ran out. Terrorists have been re-categorized from "Tiresome" to "A Bloody Nuisance." The last time the British issued a "Bloody Nuisance" warning level was in 1588, when threatened by the Spanish Armada.

The Scots have raised their threat level from "Pissed Off" to "Let's get the Bastards." They don't have any other levels. This is the reason they have been used on the front line of the British... more »

Bringing your Google+ photos to all Chromebooks

Keeping hundreds or thousands of photos backed up and organized can be a challenge. We wanted to make that process a little easier, so earlier this summer we released the Google+ Photos app for Chromebook Pixel.

Today we’re making the app available in the Chrome Web Store for all Chromebooks, in 52 languages. Here’s a quick recap:

1) When you plug an SD card into your Chromebook, the app will automatically get to work and back up your new photos to Google+ (for your eyes only, of course).

2) When you’re offline, you can still view your most recent photos.

3) Your top shots will be highlighted as you back them up, making it easier to organize and share your favorites.

4) Easily share individual photos, sets of photos, or an entire album right from the app. Simply select the imagesyou wa... more »

See your Drive photos in Google+ (and a few other improvements)

Ever wish your Google Drive photos could get some of that Google+ goodness? Now’s your chance -- starting today you can see your Google Drive photos and videos in your Google+ library. Your photos stay in Drive, but they’ll also be visible to you in Google+ (and private until you choose to share them).

Once you choose to show Drive photos in Google+ they’ll be organized chronologically, easily searchable, and automatically enhanced to look better than ever. You might even see a few of them combined into animations and panoramas thanks to Auto Awesome. You’ll be able to see your Drive photos on the web as well as in the Google+ Android app.

While you’re browsing through old holiday and vacation pics on the desktop, you might notice a couple other changes we’ve made to Google+ Photos based onyour feedbac... more »
