I wish I could show you the full 36MP image file through G+. So much texture in this old weathered lighthouse.

And if you're assuming that this lighthouse is decommissioned, guess again, it is still used (and ignored by some unlucky sailors).

Every year I’m in Curacao for Christmas I make sure I shoot a picture of the famous Handelskade quay on Christmas Eve. (An earlier version can be seen at http://goo.gl/sxtUz)

This year my favorite of the session is a monochrome photograph of a very long exposure just as the sun was setting.

I have been so busy lately with preparation for and teaching of photography workshops that I have not uploaded anything new.

This is another photo I uploaded when I first started out with G+. The ocean provided a spectacular showcase of storms the afternoon this was shot. This particular tanker was looking to get into the harbor of Willemstad a couple of miles in front of it. The storm had other intentions.

So the last few days I've been redoing my circles with the goal of resharing my Kick Ass Photographers Circle when it hit 1,000 photographers. Today it hit 1,000 for the first time and so I thought I'd share them.

Because a circle can only have 500 people in it, I've broken this circle up into 2 circles by last name, A-K http://goo.gl/7HVMN and L-Z http://goo.gl/EO0O2.

The people in these circles are some of the highest quality photographers on G+ today. Many of them are also my personal friends and people that I've known in some cases for years. Some of them are people that I don't know at all, but I just really admire their work.

I originally uploaded this one to G+ when I first joined and almost nobody had circled me. Now almost 5000 circles in I am thanking all the people who have circled me. I am humbled by all the attention.

This one was shot five years ago. At that time I had a short assignment in Albania. Every sunset I was home I would try to get a sunset photograph in and got rewarded quite often with amazing colors. This was one of my favorites from my stay there.

This shot was taken while offroading along the north shore of Curacao. This is one of several inlets that share the name “Boka Grandi”. English translation is Big Inlet. This one is not as large as the name suggests.

The sea was rough with big swells this day so I used a ND filter to keep the shutter open long enough to get the chop to turn into milky streaks.

One the most beautiful beaches in Sint Maarten, Cupecoy beach. When I took this photo the tide was ebbing and left the sand in a peculiar outline around the rock in the lower left corner. With this fish shaped rock on the beach I just had to find a way to include it in my composition.

I am close to breaking the 3500 circles mark. Last week I've been added by lots of people and truly appreciate it! I have not found the time yet to visit all your streams but will try to get to them soon.

Now the story behind the photograph.

A while back I went out for a sunset picture. After trying some long daytime exposures I decided to ditch all the filters, wait for things to darken considerably and put on my black and white thinking hat. As always, Murphy’s law reared it’s ugly head. Every time I was working a long exposure somebody just had to walk through it. Just when I thought nobody was around and actuated the shutter release a man swam up to the pier, climbed out of the water and left wet footprints all over my exposure. Until 2009 this was the highest building in The Netherlands.

Due to a metro line running below it advanced construction techniques had to be used and only one underground floor was possible.

I've had this one for a while but recently converted it to mono which brought a whole different feel the photograph.

This photograph was made during twilight overlooking the famous Handelskade quay in the harbor of Willemstad, Curacao, an island in the Dutch Caribbean. This is where at one time one of the major trading ports of the New World saw most of its activity. The heavy trading volume brought vast amounts of wealth to the traders and the Kingdom of The Netherlands.

In 1997 the historic city center of Willemstad was added to UNSESCO’s World Heritage List in part because of the peculiar style of the architecture and the harbor entrance like seen on the Handelskade quay.
