Paul Pavlinovich22,179Each year I keep saying I'll get to Vivid Sydney but I never do. Well in 2015 I'm making this event so I'll have to. If you can join me please do. Accommodation expenses and transport will be up to you (hint stay in or near the cbd) be there for one or all days. I'll try and organise some Sydney photographers to host us Mexicans and I'll try and include a night trip to cockatoo island of it can be organised. Perhaps @113333047738251078279 might like to show us around or @106677033160092990257 do some light painting with us? Thanks to @107614843238833895006 for permission to use his image as the event header.Melbourne Photowalkers Go To Sydney Vivid 20152015-05-27 01:00:007
Paul Pavlinovich22,179We'll be walking from the Maribyrnong River to the Yarra River following as closely as possible the old goods railway line as it originally existed to move goods from one part of the port to another for distribution around Melbourne. Where there are available high points we'll take them to see the lights of the Port of Melbourne, The City on the skyline, and of course The Death Star. It's roughly a 6.5km walk plus detours. The faint of heart can shorted in by diverting onto the Capital City Trail after we cross Railway Canal. We'll meet at The Reverence Hotel in Footscray from 5pm and start the walk at dusk as the lights come up nicely for photography probably around 6.15pm. We'll finish at the pizza shop at the end of Webb Bridge where you can get take away for about $10 or eat and drink within if your pockets are deep. Everyone welcome. Charles Strebor (Rantz)23,477Ready for another spin?  Yeah - I thought you were. _I've had a change in plans: I'll be in Melbourne again sooner than expected.  Might as well have a bit of spin, yes?_ Come one - come all: you'll get to see @111907656136306657088 do her best not to become _BBQ Fran_ and as there are no bodies of water in the area so she won't be able to push me in the drink, though I'm sure she'll be able to convince me to have a drink. I look forward to seeing you there.Sunday Poi Play2014-05-11 16:00:0026
Paul Pavlinovich22,179This is an informal photowalk after the Digital Show on Saturday Night. From Jeff's Shed we'll wander down to Webb Bridge on the South Side for some bridge and marina evening and night shots then make our way back along Southbank towards Swanston Street. We'll take dinner in the Crown food court. After dinner we'll complete our waterfront stroll along towards Flinders & Swanston where we'll head up around Hamer Hall and The Arts Centre down to NGV where we might play with the windows if they're still on when we get there then we'll finish up for the evening. No route map. No way points. No leaders. No formalities. No give-aways. No competitions. Just a good old fashioned photowalk with friends.Saturday Night River front Crawl and Dinner2013-09-14 17:30:0030

Dots To Spots Printing531How well do you know the surrounding area you live in? Melbourne Photowalkers is a great community for organising and running photowalks in and around Melbourne. Many members of this community are not able to attend photowalks for various reasons. We have created this event to give everyone a chance to experience their own photowalk in your *local or surrounding suburb you live in*.    Try and capture something unique or unusual. Move out of your comfort zone and try to be creative.  Add a small description to your photo and you may encourage others to venture out and visit your local area and see what you have captured. *The best photo of the event, as judged by +Charles Strebor  will receive a 20" x 30" (50x76cm) Print on 250gsm Satin Photo Paper.*   Everyone has two weeks to complete the photowalk and submit their photos. You are allowed to enter up to two photos each. ( this will make it more difficult for +Charles Strebor to judge :) ) Event dates. *When: Today (22 of July 13)* *End:    Monday 5th of August.* Rules. Processed photos allowed. Photos must be shot within a distance of 5km around your home.  (the house you spend 95% living and sleeping in).  Photos can only be taken between the event dates. 2 entries per person must be uploaded to this event page for judging. You must be a member of the +Melbourne Photowalk community and live in Victoria to enter this event. It is open to all ages and experience. This link is for a google map created by @118387887168707366743 for people to add their photo location. http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=UTF&msa=0&msid=204930565885876159876.0004e33c51fc368bc84f2 How well do you know the surrounding area you live in?2013-07-22 12:00:0043

Charles Strebor (Rantz)23,477*First and Last Warning*: _There will be fire - your safety is your own responsibility_. I'd be chuffed if you would join me for a photo walkabout on Saturday, 27 April 2013 in Brunswick, Victoria. We will walk through a number of bluestone laneways, enjoying the street art and also stopping at a various locations for fire spinning and juggling by @111830327627461921997, @115027053902979628958 & @111514735588177976561. There are many pubs in the area and a decision (or decisions) regarding where to head to when the fire play has finished will be made during the walk. For those unable to arrive at the starting time, @111830327627461921997   will be broadcasting his location using Glympse (http://glympse.com/) so you can find the the group during the walk. Tripods are recommended for the fire play shooting as long exposure shots of 3 to 10 seconds are best for shooting this activity.  Recommendations for other camera settings will be offered at the time for those interested. http://goo.gl/tncmC  Brunswalk with Fire2013-04-27 16:00:0021
Lady Fran W8,266*Your lovely hosts for this event will be:* @112471334785730222439  and @111907656136306657088  The effervescent @112471334785730222439 and I agreed that it is an important part of ANZAC Day to set aside some time to honour and respect all those lives touched by war and conflict. The Dawn Service at the Shrine is a beautiful and moving tribute to those who gave so much. Getting out of bed at a horrible hour, on what is normally a chilly April morning, is the very least of what we can do to pay our respects.  Following the somber tribute in the morning, we agreed that the call of coffee will be strong, and the need for food second most to that, and then ... the photographer in us all will be screaming to get out. Soooooo, we thought that we would plan a bit of a photowalk. The idea is as follows:  *Dawn - Service and sorrow* _6:00pm service_ This part of the morning will be purely about respect. This is not a photo opportunity, but a moment of reflection. Until the _Last Post_ and formal ceremony is complete, please avoid pulling your camera out. If you really can't hold back, then please arrange to get in early and capture the moment in private prior to the ceremony. The Shrine, the eternal flame, and the surrounding areas will be open and manned from very early.  *Meet up* _6:30am +/-_ ie after completion of the service 'Blue fountain' Corner of St Kilda Road and Southbank Blvd  Map ref: http://goo.gl/ClkBX *Coffee and feasting* _7:30am_ Following the dawn service, the intention is to hop a tram to Port Melbourne for a caffeine hit, and a hearty breakfast.  A table has been booked at _Cafe Zest_ for 7:30am  http://cafezest.webs.com/apps/location/ *Cameras at the ready* Once we are full charged, and our spirits a little higher, the intention is to spend the morning around Station and Princes Piers practicing some of our recent learning from the two ND/GND and long exposures events. Pack a tripod, filters, or any gear you want. A hat if the sun is looking like showing (someone, who shall remain nameless, did not do this last Saturday and may or may not have worn a microfibre cloth on ones head ... rumour has it ...), sunscreen etc. You know the routine.  _*EXECUTIVE SUMMARY*_ _Option A_ - Dawn Service > Meet > Breakfast (Port Melbourne) > Piers _Option B_ - Dawn Service > Meet > Breakfast (City) > Parade Please do not hesitate to invite others you feel may be interested. ANZAC Day Photowalk2013-04-25 05:30:0022
Paul Pavlinovich22,179Join us for another anniversary walk with all the usual and plenty of new faces from the Melbourne Photowalkers community. Walk starts and finishes at Collingwood Station. Food is available at The People's Market (expect to be there around 3pm) and after the official walk end at back near the town hall many of us will continue to the The Retreat Hotel for dinner and  beer. Here is the route https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=212211852192101909727.0004d81878e69719df99d&msa=0&ll=-37.803952,144.990327&spn=0.016598,0.033023 It's not as long as it looks. Note I've changed the times to ensure we can get into The People's Market which is absolutely brilliant. We'll be going past loads of laneways with amazing street art which are not marked on the route (a few are). If you want to make your walk longer feel free to diverge down the laneways. Suggestions: . There is an urbex site - use commonsense and make your own choices . Down the laneways travel in at least pairs - this is a fairly dodgy place sometimes - this means you Margaret Wong!Google Anniversary Photowalk *COLLINGWALK*2013-03-23 03:00:0055

The Apostles at Dusk.

No matter how nice it seems at the outset, Victorian weather likes to troll people. When we left it was sunny and no wind. We got there and the wind was almost enough to push you over and kept ruining my long exposures. It also proceeded to kill the sun for an anti-climatic sunset.

Watching the Moon Rise

I mistimed my latest adventure to shoot the milkyway. I hadn't realised the moon rise was going to be so close. Originally I'd intended to be there at 7:30pm, but the skies were overcast so I stopped for coffee and to catch up with some friends. By the time it cleared enough it was around 8:30 and I caught some wicked shots just as the moon rose.

Shortly after I decided it was too light and went home, but I did have a panorama that promised to turn out well, and here it is.

I mentioned that my camera died, this is where I was.

A wave hit the rock shelf behind the one with all the water cascading off it in this photo. It was roughly ten meters away and went sideways. I was soaked, camera was soaked, and I think I had 10cm deep worth of water in my bag.

Turns out the sunrise looked better on the other side of the peninsula too. Ah well. I did get this.

My camera died again. Wasn't working for two and a half weeks. I'd all but given up, but on Saturday while still in denial I decided I'd try getting it to work once more. I put in a battery, flicked on the switch and it turned on as if nothing had happened at all.

So of course I found myself at a beach within hours. You'd think I'd know better than to go near water by now.

The glow on the horizon there is from the moon that rose roughly ten minutes after I took this.

I got soaked again.

This was the last shot I got, around about the time that dawn happened (it was grey), before I got soaked and my camera called it quits for the morning. +Justin Thornley was witness to the moment that I got sandwiched between too waves bigger than me, but unfortunately missed the money shot.

I quite obviously need to go back and try to recapture this particular shelf.

So instead of providing photos from the feast that I was at, here's one from St Paul's Beach in Sorrento. I'm too tipsy for a feast photo.

I've been pretty quiet for the last two months, dealing with a few things and such. I even missed White Night this year.

I did however make it down to the beach the other morning for some dawn shooting. Though I now need to get my +Formatt-Hitech filters looked at as one of my ProStop IRND Filters has warped. And I ended up really wishing I had firecrest filters as the other filters fogged up after I got hit by a wave.

Last Night was the only clear night I thought I'd get to go and watch some of the Geminid Meteor Shower. Looking out my window now I'd say that I'm definitely not going to see the peak tonight due to the weather.

I had everything planned out. I had my location, I'd even found a lake with dead trees in it to silhouette against the meteors and hopefully get reflections. And then I realised they were actually coming from a different direction behind mountains and I'd see none of them where I was. I ended up relocating elsewhere, but before I did, I did get some cool shots of the trees.

I'd had plans to play with graduated filters but had managed to leave them at home meaning seascapes weren't really going to work. I got some nice sunset photos though. Both with and without an orb.

Post Dawn Blues

While +Rodney Campbell and +Jason Baker were probably laughing at the fact that I was halfway to my knees in water with long pants on, I was attempting to get my camera to behave and take some long exposures. Due to colour casts and such I really can't wait to get my hands on some firecrest slide NDs from +Formatt-Hitech, I was using a 10 Stop Pro IRND and some 2 stop SE and Reverse grads of theirs.

I think I went a little overboard with a combined 4 stops of graduated filters. 3 would have been perfect.

I think in this I can see +Jason Baker out there. +Rodney Campbell was still to my left I think.

It's Monday Morning, and so a morning themed photo seems pretty appropriate.

I spent most of the last week up in Sydney, and while I was up there I got the chance to catch up with some great photographers I know, +Rodney Campbell and +Jason Baker, to go out and shoot some dawn beachscapes. I've got to say I envy Sydney sometimes, they've got so many decent beaches that are relatively close.

We were fortunate in that there were some clouds out, though disappointingly they were a little too high for dawn itself, though some of the wisps of cloud lit up a brilliant pink. It's always worth hanging around after dawn for a little rather than giving up right after sunrise though, you never know what might happen.

No matter how nice it seems at the outset, Victorian weather likes to troll people. When we left it was sunny and no wind. We got there and the wind was almost enough to push you over and kept ruining my long exposures. It also proceeded to kill the sun for an anti-climatic sunset.
