I'm not so sure I want to be this guy's friend any longer. Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it sounds like he agrees with the KKK on at least somethings, just not 100% of it.  And although I firmly believe in the first amendment, I would never use the KKK as an example of a group whose rights I support.

Tonight I set off about 1/6th of the fireworks that I have. It was a blast! No photos, sorry. Sometimes I just want to enjoy an experience directly without trying to capture it through a lens. On the Fourth the street one over from me is closed and people come from all over the county to do fireworks. I'll wander around then and take photos to share with everyone.

You've Been Trumped
means exactly what you think it means

This documentary in 2011 explains the struggle between Scottish land owners in a fight with Donald Trump over his massive golf course plans including the acquisition, belittlement, and negligence of the people who owned the land next to his development land.  AKA.  the Scottish people who didn't sell their property to Trump and the fight they eventually lost.  Great film  *You've Been Trumped*.

A friend stopped by tonight to check on me. The friend who took me to the doctor the other day. He wanted to be sure I was doing OK with my new meds, and he brought me tacos. I gave him a demo of the Amazon Echo and he was very impressed with it.

He said the Echo would be great for bed-bound people, the elderly, and such. Being able to turn on and off lights with voice is great, but also to be able to have it answer questions and order things you need. It opens up Amazon ordering to a whole new group of people who may not e able to use a computer.

The Amazon Echo requires some setup. For the Hue lights, well you need those plus you need to name them and assign them to rooms for the Echo to control them in a meaningful way. He used to work in medical sales, so he has some idea of the market. I spent the past two and a half years of my grandmother's life taking care of her. I can certainly see how useful the Echo would be for her. And given my experience taking care of her, I think I'd be comfortable enough going to eldery's homes to set it up.___

I don't understand why GOPers hate women so much. It's baffling because they love sex and hate the gays so their only option is women. But they hate women too. What gives?

It seems like what they want are sex slaves?

There are now 14 republicans vying for the presidential nomination. I think they're all white, except that Jindal guy. Do you think he knows he's not white and therefore hasn't a chance? They're all probably quite wealthy. I doubt any of them support things like health care, contraceptives, equal pay, and so on. Yet, come election day one of these guys will get close to 50% of the vote. Win or lose, that means tens of millions of American women will be voting for a republican who does not have any of their interests at heart.

It sucks that the only woman the democrats can produce with a viable chance is Hillary Clinton. I certainly would prefer her over any republican, but she's far from my first choice. I voted for Hillary Clinton in the primaries 8 years ago, but I won't this time around. Which is rather unfortunate because I think it's time this country has a woman for president.___

So I just ordered some cat litter using my Amazon Echo. Here's how that went (I'll call the Echo "Alexa" since that's its keyword):

Me: Alexa, order cat litter.
Alexa: I found blah blah blah but can only order prime eligible products.
(this was the wrong product anyway, so I was more specific next)
Me: Alexa, order precious cat litter.
Alexa: I found multiple matches in your past orders. The top one is Precious cat ultra premium clumping cat litter. The order total is $15.38. Should I order it?
Me: Yes
Alexa: OK. Order placed.

And that was all there was to it. I got the email confirmation of the order a few moments later. That was very convenient to be able to place the order while I was thinking about it, which was while I was changing the litter box.

My Amazon Echo finally arrived. All I've been doing with it since I got it is tell it to turn on and off the lights, which it's great at. It feels very Star Trek to walk in the room and say "Alexa, turn on the lights" and actually have it happen.

It is amazing that our Politicians can be bought so cheaply: "So why did the government act so fast in pursuing site-blocking and forcing industry to come up with a code? After all, it wasn't actually recommended in the law reform commission's recent review of copyright law.

While not exactly clear, critics often point to the large donations political parties receive from rights holders, and Village is one of the biggest donors.

Since 1998 it has spent close to $4.5 million in political donations, mostly on the Labor and Liberal parties

Burke says they're made "because we want to see and make a contribution to good government".

Apparently legally removing this flag requires an act of legislature in South Carolina. A brave woman with no such hinderance took it down. She was then arrested, which I'm sure she expected. I hoped that would be that, and the good people of South Carolina would leave the flag down recognizing it as the right thing to do. Not so.

Not only did they waste no time, on a weekend no less, getting the flag back up for some sort of flag rally (here they're calling it a white supremacist rally but I don't know how accurate that is) but they had a black man do it.

I wonder if ordering a black man to raise a flag that represents racism, slavery, and oppression to many is a civil rights violation in itself.

If I lived in South Carolina still, I'd remove the flag and go to jail myself.

I saw my doctor yesterday, and got to spend more time talking with him than I expected. He didn't want to prescribe the pills I asked for. And I can't really blame him. I wanted more pain killers to deal with depression. As I've tried a lot of anti-depressants in my life, this is the first time I've taken something that not only worked to make me not feel depressed, they worked almost instantly.

He did prescribe prozac, which I don't think I've taken before. I've heard many not good things about it. If people understood the internal struggle I have almost every waking moment, they'd also understand my desire to take anything that may work side effects be damned. Doc told me they take a month or so to start working and so I practically begged for some pain killers in the meantime, which he begrudgingly obliged ("as a one time thing").

Physically my health is pretty good. My weight is the same as it was 3 months ago when last I saw him. My blood pressure was a nice 121/68.

My problems are many but probably seem like nothing to others. I have a real hard time with social anxiety. It keeps me at home most of the time. I also lack motivation. Motivation to do anything. I'm lucky in that I don't have to work, but at the same time I miss out on the social experience of having coworkers or customers.

The happiest I've felt in a very long time, years actually, is the few months following my surgery while I was on the pain killers constantly. Those do wonders to elevate my mood, but of course that's an off-label use and not a very good one at that. The issue with pain killers is you always have to take more. That's not a good plot for me.

At any rate, I have a family from China coming today, so I need to get their digs ready.___

I read an interesting theory on intelligent life in the universe. Basically that we're the only ones because a) the universe is incredibly young and b) if there were other life its natural drive to expand would have filled the universe by now. I like this theory -- and it makes sense to me. I feel the search for extraterrestrial intelligence is a waste and we won't find any life anywhere. But I'm wondering if there's another reason.

Humanity is facing several self-created challenges to our future right now. Climate change is a big one, we'r entering another mass-extinction, and then geo/political issues, wars, and so on. Perhaps this is what happens to all civilizations. They rise up, and end up wiping themselves out before they leave their part of the universe.

Perhaps life has come and gone over billions of years on many worlds in many galaxies. Look how long human evolution has been going on and as far as we've gotten is a bit beyond Pluto. I don't think humans have the staying/surviving power to get to another galaxy. I think this will be true of any intelligent life that evolves in the universe.___

Welp... I've been dreading this, but I've finally decided to go see my doctor about my recent bout of depression. I actually like this doctor. The last doctor I liked was the doctor I had when I was 13, so it's been a while I had one I trusted. A friend is going with me to help impress upon the doctor the seriousness of my present state. This friend has watched me closely over the past year, and he's seen my ups and downs with various medications, and street drugs. If it weren't for the friend I probably wouldn't go tomorrow. I certainly hope my doctor gives me what I ask for. I don't know what I'll do if he doesn't.

I noticed this little dollar sign in a circle on Facebook just now. It says "Sending money is free and secure" so I decided to send my friend $1000. Then it asked me for my debit card. What happened to it being free?

Poppy seeds on Amazon. This picture clearly shows the first step in turning poppies into morphine. You slice up the pods like this, and this milky stuff oozes out. You refine that into morphine, and from there heroin can be made. For people who know how to make morphine it's really obvious what's being shown here, and the comments bear it out.

Earlier today I called my drug dealer, basically telling him how depressed I am. The sob story I posted earlier. And I asked him for a drug he doesn't usually carry. He said what I expected, doesn't have it and can't get it.

Fastforward five hours and he comes over to my house. No drugs or but he has my favourite drink! A giant fountain Dr Pepper with just a little ice, and filled to the brim -- just the way I like it. I can't get them myself because I'm banned from the store because I got their illegal construction red flagged.

Anyway, DD (drug dealer) and I sit out in my brilliant backyard just chatting for a while. I mention how somedays I don't even bother getting out of bed and I said "i'm not suicidal, I don't have the ambition for it, but a lot of time I don't even want to be alive. We moved on from that, onto how Airbnb works.

We moved on from that, onto how Airbnb works.

And eventually, it's pretty late, past 1am late. He says he has to get home before his girlfriend flips out. He takes off and I feel a lot better. Not that he's gone, but that he took the time to bring me something I like and to talk to me when I'm feeling so down. It really did make my night.

Then half an hour later, he's back. It's 1:45am now. He said his girlfriend flipped out and would like to crash here. I show him to one of my many guest rooms and wish him nice dreams. I know he didn't initially come here looking to stay the night. He has no problem just asking directly. I don't know much about his relationship with his girlfriend but it seems to be opportunistic to me. I wouldn't be too surprised if she kicked him out, but part of me wonders if he's back because he thinks I'm teetering on suicide? I'm not, of course. I think he knows that.___

This is a very hard time of year for me. Several years ago my father died which I was living in Australia. After he died I moved from Australia to southern California to care for my aging grandmother and to meet the woman of my dreams. My clingy and obsessive nature, much more so than usual thanks to my dad having died and me having just left college to move half-way around the world, drove the woman of my dreams far far far away from me. It's been years and I still think and dream about her every day.

Last July my grandmother died from cancer. I was very close to both my dad and my grandmother.

Everyday I see something, or think of something, or just have a thought I wish I could share with them. I'll be driving and see something interesting out the window "hey gramma, check that out!" I say gesturing out the window. But she isn't there.

There's always some technical question I wish I could ask my dad.

And then these thing pile up I want to talk about it with Summer, but there's another person I'll never have that opportunity with again. It's sad night in and day out.

I also have a half-bother and a full-mother. Just after my grandmother died, he sued me because he was not happy with the distribution of inheritance. Maybe he should have visited her more often, or tried caring for her once-in-a-while. It was my full time job. For the three or so months leading up to my grandmother's death I took her, every weekday, to a radiation appointment at least. Some days there were even more doctors to see. I deserve what I was left, but... this situation has ruined any chance I have at a relationship with my half-bother.

My mother is another story. I won't go into it too much. But I'll say she is the master of manipulation and guilt trips. She's also very right wing. She worships money. She's racist and homophobic. If you've heard vile disgusting things about gays or blacks or jews, she's said it before herself. I have no relationship with her because of this. I accept anyone, she accepts pretty much no one. Her boyfriend is a big part of it, and I think without him she'd be a less hateful person. But that's neither here nor there. To me, she's dead, just like the rest of my family.

And boy oh boy does all this make me sad at times. Like right now. My emotional energy is drained. What I wouldn't give for the chance to tell my dad I love him one last time. The same goes with my Grandmother and Summer. I wish the two of them know just how deeply I feel for them. I love all three of them with relentless abandon.  But I keep it to myself usually. There's no heaven or hell. My dad and gran aren't waiting for me on the other side. And as far as I know Summer is happy and health and certainly wouldn't want to hear how I'm still hanging on.

I don't know where my life is going which isn't the hardest part. It's the not knowing and that I have no one to share my journey with.

Anyway, I could wax on about this forever. I could regale people with memories of the ones I love. But it helps no one. Thanks for reading.___

So I'm finally getting around to watching WWDC and there's this really weird bit going on like some over the top Vegas show. I think it's meant to be humorous but you know deep down this is really how the people at Apple feel.
