Adventures in Ísafjörður - West Fjords, Iceland

After a weekend of star photography workshops, and little sleep it felt great to get a full 6 hours of shut eye. After clicking "publish" on this post it's time to pack for Iceland, where the 4 hour sunsets and sunrises keep me busy for days. The Shot
It's been around 350 days or so since I took this shot & since I am headed back to Ísafjörður tomorrow, why not post a shot? I really liked adventuring through this town in the early morning around 3 AM when no one was awake, it was a complete ghost town.

I always enjoy walking through the woods of Washington State. Most of the trees are monstrous and when the sun sets the light pours through them which makes it easy to catch shots like this.

During my Palouse workshop last weekend we were heading to the falls when a storm blew in. We were passing under it as the clouds began to form so I busted a u and led the group back a mile or so to get back in front of it. Good times!

The Shot
Mount Baker is another one of those locations where the nights are so dark you can barely see your own hand. If you wana capture some great star shots I highly recommend this location. Here is a fun one from the West Fjords of Iceland. I am headed back in 3 days and decided to use KuKu Campers instead of the company Happy Campers that I used last time. The clouds are clearing and it looks like I am all set for this weekends Star Photography Workshop at Mount Rainier. Hopefully the weather stays as nice as it is right now and makes for some great shots.

The Shot
I am sure everyone has seen a shot from this iconic spot in Yosemite National Park. When I visited the main goal was to walk away with some shots that didn't resemble the same shots I see from many other photographers which can sometimes be challenge.

The Shot
Mossy Grotto Falls as some call it is an amazing fall a few miles up the Ruckel Creek Trail head. It will take some exploring to find, but I consider the adventure to be well worth it, plus the hike is no where near as hard as most make it out to be. I took this shot around 7:30PM, just make sure you have a headlamp if you climb up that way at night, because it gets dark pretty quickly in the dense forest...

Point Hamilton

Ahhh... the Great Ocean Road - easily one of my favorite places to explore while down in Oz. It represents so much of Australia - strong, beautiful, and teeming with nature. The reason why I am especially fond of this shot is because of how the mist rolled over those cliffs in the background, allowing just a hint of the Cape Otway lighthouse to show. Stylization was achieved by stacking what had to be 786 filters in Nik Color Efex 4. :)

Yangshuo Cyclist 

I said in my last photo that I had my heart set on getting that shot. I had planned to get it, tried to get it and would have been annoyed if I hadn't have got it.

This shot was the complete opposite; a spur of the moment, unplanned shot. Turns out, this is one of my favourite photos (of mine) ever!
Myself and Greg were explore some quite remote fields around Yangshuo in Guilin, at this point our guide had pointed out a very old bridge across a small stream. As we were crouched down by the water's edge, I glanced up and saw this old man on a bicycle cycling across this stone bridge.

I suddenly pictured an image in my mind; this lone man cycling along the path in his traditional hat, towards the setting sun, with the famous karst mountains forming the backdrop and framed by this single tree.
