La mariposa más grande del mundo

Estas imágenes son de la mariposa atlas (Attacus atlas), la más grande del mundo.
Sus alas tienen unos 400 centímetros cuadrados de superficie y una envergadura de unos 25-30 centímetros.
Es una especie que habita en los bosques tropicales del sudeste asiático.
En la India se crían para obtener seda. A diferencia de la del gusano de seda (Bombyx mori) la mariposa atlas produce hilos muy cortos. Debido a esto se procesa su seda de una forma muy parecida a la lana; materia prima a la que se asemeja mucho...

El extraño y triste pez gota, Psychrolutes marcidus

Este pez habita únicamente en las aguas profundas entre las costas de Australia y Tasmania.
Es un animal gelatinoso, con una densidad ligeramente menor que la del agua del mar. Esto le permite flotar a gran profundidad sobre el fondo marino sin gastar apenas energía.
La especie Psychrolutes marcidus es conocida como pez gota, pez borrón o Janira.
Las fotografías de este pez en libertad son muy raras, la mayoría son de animales capturados tomadas en la superficie; lugar donde por la diferencia de presión pierde su aspecto natural.
