I love architecture.
I love street photography.
I loved seeing this girl riding her bike in front of the Sage Gateshead in Newcastle.

As I spent the day out in Newcastle with friends, I only took my 50mm lens to carry a small and light camera in my hand bag. In that case, you might not get the nice architecture shot you dream of but then you try to find a different angle, a different point of view and you challenge yourself. I like that.

Rant of the Day: People Who Say 'Never do this or that!!'

To me the explosion of interest in photography has been a wonderful thing. Part of the reason I say that is that helping people get more out of their photography has become a bigger part of my life. It's also become part of my income and that's good for my family, too. 

I love teaching people about photography; the technical stuff, the creative stuff, the history.. all of it. I like to think I have a broad spectrum of interest and experience - stretching back to the 1970s and including three years of formal art-college training in the 1980s/90s. I've been getting my work published and exhibited since 1991.

Fun Zombies Photo Processing 

There was plenty of blood yesterday in Melbourne! Many zombies - and almost as many photographers - made it to the CBD. I had never been to a zombie walk before and that was fun and crazy at the same time. 

The thing when you photograph people in a crowd is that the crowd can either be a constraint or an asset. It's an asset when it shows many things happening in one picture. For that, the composition has to be outstanding, emphasizing a movement, highlighting a perspective (check out +Gérald Verdon's protest album http://goo.gl/7OOG2 to see what I mean). But if there is too much noise and a lack of harmony, it might be more difficult to compose your picture with the crowd. The alternative is to isolate your subject: close-up, black & white, vignetting, cropping, etc.
