These vile and evil scum understand nothing but violence and our administration continues to soften their stance and pay lip service as opposed to actually doing something. How many children have be tortured and killed before we truly act?

The American Dream is Still Alive

I flipped on the TV tonight and Shark Tank was on. I rarely watch the show, but Brian Lim caught my attention.

Here is a young man from Chinese immigrant parents who came to the US to escape communism. He watched them work 18 hour days to make a better life for their family and it inspired him to be an entrepreneur. He started his business with $100 and used brains and hard work to create a product and a market for this product that he ultimately had two pairs of the Sharks fighting over to invest in, valuing his business between $13 million and $20 million.

My heart swelled to hear this guy's passion and embrace of what America is supposed to be about. You are your biggest barrier.

Tsipras is teetering on the edge...along with all of Greece.  There is no doubt that Greece had to accept more austerity - you can't ask for other people's money without showing you are going to spend it wisely.  However, he promised Greeks that he would reject those requirements based on their referendum vote.  Now, he has accepted tougher requirements than were proposed before.  The corner is tiny and the paint is drying.

Prediction - both Greece and his political career go spinning out of control.

Is Baseball Still a Kid's Game?

As much as I pay attention to baseball, I was not aware that the recruiting of young talent was happening at the ripe old age of 9 years old!

This is ridiculous on so many levels...

1.  At 9 years old, a young boy is not even close to done growing and tremendous amounts of physical change are going to happen over the next few years.  The physical skills a kid has at 9 may be completely different than the skills he has at 16 or 18.

2.  This takes away from the whole of youth baseball programs like Little League.  Major League Baseball already does a disservice to itself by not investing more significantly in youth baseball programs.  Not only would this investment help develop talent...it helps develop FANS.  Without fans, all the talent in the world doesn't matter.

3.  These kids are basically robbed of their childhood by adults who ultimately benefit from their skills.  True - some small percentage of these kids end up making big money and maybe to some that loss of childhood is worth it.  However, at 9 years old these kids don't really know what they are sacrificing.

I love baseball - I love it because my Dad took me to games as a kid, I played it in Little League, and because American history is indelibly marked by it.  But we seem to be sacrificing the joy of and privilege of this kid's game by pushing kids beyond what is reasonable.___

Interesting article about the significant in double mastectomies. I have often wondered if many of the operations are medically necessary - and it appears that most are not and they do nothing to increase chances of living longer.

Based on this article, physical appearance seems to be driving a lot of the decisions. To me, that seems an awfully drastic decision for "symmetry". I am glad there are doctors defying the "celebrity effect" and actively arguing against double mastectomies when they are not medically necessary.

Incest is Best

I guess the so-called "thought-leaders" in Germany agree with the old schoolyard joke...they are INSANE.  Rather, their children may be.

“Criminal law is not the appropriate means to preserve a social taboo,” the German Ethics Council said in a statement. “The fundamental right of adult siblings to sexual self-determination is to be weighed more heavily than the abstract idea of protection of the family.”

The "abstract" idea they speak of is the foundation of civilization.

It is the pinnacle of the album and the pinnacle of the Yes experience in the 1970s. While there have been great songs since from Yes, there has been nothing quite like Awaken.

I have lost all respect for +George Takei - he just can't seem to figure out how to put down the shovel and stop digging the hole he is in.

Double down on your racist rant, +George Takei !!! GOOD JOB.

If Takei’s being honest here and not feigning stupidity as damage control, he genuinely doesn’t see the problem in comparing Thomas to a white actor playing a “black buffoon.” He’s practicing racial essentialism — if you’re black, your position on slavery and inherent dignity is as follows — and then presuming to excommunicate Thomas from “authentic blackness” because, as someone whose family experienced internment in the 1940s, he somehow has the right to do that now. That’s insulting in the abstract and even more so when applied to Thomas, who, as Sean Davis reminds us, actually grew up in the Jim Crow south and knows something about maintaining one’s dignity during oppression. I wonder if Takei knows that about him — or maybe he does know and just figures that he’s entitled to lecture Thomas anyway because, as a gay man and former internee, he thinks he’s got victim trump cards to play. Either way, we’ve reached an interesting new turn on the path of progress when someone who’s not black is once again entitled to tell a black man what to think and how to behave.___I have lost all respect for +George Takei - he just can't seem to figure out how to put down the shovel and stop digging the hole he is in.

Jon Anderson's Statement about the Death of Chris Squire

I was watching for Jon Anderson to make a statement about his friend and co-founder of Yes.  It is definitely a very "Jon Anderson-like" statement, but certainly from the heart.

Chris was a very special part of my life; we were musical brothers. He was an amazingly unique bass player - very poetic - and had a wonderful knowledge of harmony. We met at a certain time when music was very open, and I feel blessed to have created some wonderful, adventurous, music with him. Chris had such a great sense of humor... he always said he was Darth Vader to my Obiwan. I always thought of him as Christopher Robin to my Winnie the Pooh.
