I agree with his evaluation of Carly - she is tough and would move ahead on the tough issues.

However, he is wrong about why HP bought Compaq.  It was not for their PC business - it was for their superior server business.

Not to get all existential, but the problem is much deeper than synthetic drugs, high-capacity gun magazines, turf wars, rejiggering police deployment or keeping an eye on repeat violent offenders.

We have on our hands — in our neighborhoods, on our streets and maybe living next door — walking disasters: individuals who believe that their lives matter, but not yours or mine. Neither do our laws and institutions.

The Wild West’s outlaws felt that way, too. But it didn’t turn out so well for them. Won’t for ours, either, in the long run.

The challenge, as always: to keep our potential outlaws from going down that path. That’s not up to the police. Look at the faces of the killers and their victims. It’s on us — parents, preachers, politicians, community pontificators — all who profess that black lives matter, to prove it.

Professor Jonathon Jones of Oxford University:

“The hockey stick is an extraordinary claim which requires extraordinary evidence…the evidence is extraordinarily weak…its defenders were desperate to hide this fact…I’d always had an interest in pathological science, and it looked like I might have stumbled across a really good modern example…The Hockey Stick is obviously wrong. At the heart of the grievance collector’s worldview is that he is not responsible for the condition of his life; a vast conspiracy of malevolent individuals and forces is entirely at fault. There is always someone else to blame, and the Virginia shooter quickly finds ways to excuse his actions and deflect the responsibility to others.

He writes, “Hell yeah, I made mistakes,” noting that he “should not have been so curt” with photographers in Roanoke. “But you know why I was? The damn news director was a micromanaging tyrant!!”

The shooter insists that outside forces made him take his actions. The question is why any right-thinking person would affirm his belief that he was “fueled” by someone else or spurred by some “root cause” outside himself.

According to the data compiled by the World Health Organization, the story is much the same elsewhere: Developed Western nations such as Hungary, Poland, France, Belgium, and Austria all have higher suicide rates than the United States — and all have stricter gun-control regimes. As much as Ezra Klein and Vox want to use suicide rates as a tool to attack American’s Second Amendment rights, the data don’t support their case.

Some excellent points are made here:

1. This probably won't stop her from getting the nomination - Democrats are not going to let a little lying and rule-breaking keep them from a Clinton

2. This will be a general election issue

3. Her flippant and dismissive attitude is just like the 90s all over again...the non-existent "vast right-wing conspiracy" is out to get her yet again. Yeah right.

When a distinctly liberal media is telling her to straighten up and fly right, you know she is in trouble.

From liberal commentator Ruth Marcus:

So, my advice: Stop making light. Stop litigating. Stop the high-handed dismissing. Stop the prickliness with the media; we’re not going away. Stop the non-apology apologies (you didn’t do anything wrong, but you wouldn’t do it over again).

You don’t need to grovel or confess to grievous errors. Just dial down the combativeness — as hard as this is for you — and ramp up the reasonableness: You understand people have questions. If classified information was not adequately protected, you’d like to know that and figure out what lessons can be learned.

This problem isn’t going away. The trick, right now, is simply not making it worse.___Some excellent points are made here:

This picture from our local news last night was from a story about a senior living apartment complex that had been without air conditioning for a week.

I am not sure if the news show was purposefully trying to make the management look foolish or they just didn't see it - I am voting for the latter.

Remember - this is a SENIOR living facility. And they got it wrong in English and Spanish.

This is a great illustration of the desperation that existed for treatment for a devastating disease...and today we have fools purposefully avoiding vaccinations.

Kaasen deliver the serum to Nome at 3 a.m. on February 2; the 30-day trip had been made in just five days and seven hours, through the worst imaginable conditions. The outbreak was staunched; thousands of lives were saved. Several of the dog-drivers had been severely injured. Several of the dogs were dead. All this to save total strangers from the agonies of diphtheria.

Nowadays, to save their own children from diphtheria, some parents won’t even drive to their local clinic. It boggles the mind.___This is a great illustration of the desperation that existed for treatment for a devastating disease...and today we have fools purposefully avoiding vaccinations.

Letting Your Children Grow Up

My amazing wife and partner in raising our children (really, she does the bulk of the hard stuff...) shared this on her Facebook account this morning.  She was inspired by our high school senior telling us about all the kids he knows (all seniors) that don't have a driver's license.

Keeping our kids dependent when they should be learning how to function as adults is irresponsible parenting.  Your ultimate goal as a parent is to produce a responsible and self-sufficient adult.  Anything that does not achieve that end is a mistake.

________________________________________________________
Being that I have a senior this year - again - I'm going to throw a few thoughts out into Facebook world...

Have your high schoolers pick up their own back-to-school packet, go through registration on their own (go get yourself a Starbucks!), deal with class changes by themselves, deal with their teachers on their own. It is a safe place to learn responsibility. Don’t step in until absolutely necessary (and still even wait a bit).

Make sure your high school student has a checking account with a debit card. Put $200 in the overdraft. Teach them not to ever use that $200. When they graduate, show them how to shop for a good credit card and how to use it.

Make them get their driver’s license. Maybe not until the summer after they turn 16, but this waiting until 18 is ridiculous. I know of a mom who has to drive her son to the university. Enough.

Make them get a job. GASP! Teach them how to fill out a job application, how to go on an interview. (Yes, they still should dress up! That might shock them.)

They should pump their gas, get their oil changed, pay for stuff they use (Horrors!), and fix stuff they break.

Force them to do their own laundry. Yes, they will be doing it sometimes at 11:00 PM. They will live out of one laundry basket and never fold their clothes. They can do it. LET GO.

Have them manage their bedtimes during the school year. They can go to bed after you. If they don’t get enough sleep, tell them you don’t feel comfortable with them driving on too little sleep. Funny how that will motivate them.

Take these four years to stop babying them and help them grow up. You will be so glad you did!

I saw The Gift last night with my wife...nothing like seeing a scary movie with your honey!

This is a great film - very scary, but not horror. There's no blood, no gore - just lots of psychological terror. You will spend a lot of time guessing how it might end - but you won't be successful.

Jason Bateman plays against type here and does a great job and Joel Edgerton (he is the director and writer as well) plays the man from Bateman's past as a creepy yet somehow sympathetic character.

Highly recommended - take someone who will let you grip their hand or hide your eyes in their shoulder!

Buttons

A special service of CircleCount.com is the following button.

The button shows the number of followers you have directly in a small button. You can add this button to your website, like the +1-Button of Google or the Like-Button of Facebook.

You can add this button directly in your website. For more information about the CircleCount Buttons and the description how to add them to another page click here.
