I got to interview Alicia Keys yesterday while at BlackBerry Live. She is, just, wow. Super-connected, creative, and of course as we all know...talented.

Our latest keynote announcement for BlogHer '13.
+Majora Carter is someone I've been following and admiring for over 5 years now, so thrilled to host her at BlogHer. Lisa Donovan, +Brit Morin and Randi Zuckerberg are each fascinating makers & creators in different ways. But they all have one thing in common: I think they represent the kind of path more and more of will (and can) follow because of the freedoms and accessibility the Internet and technology provides.

+BlogHer already announced The Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd as one of our BlogHer '13 keynote speakers, and we're excited to announce the next: major G+ advocate, +Guy Kawasaki.
Guy has so much to share on so many topics BlogHer attendees care about. Can't. Wait.

Our +BlogHer community had a LOT to say about this article, so +Lisa Stone +Jory Des Jardins and I decided to weigh in with our perspective. We decided to think about the greater context of what happens at other events. And of how women who blog generally feel about coverage of our industry.
And we took a rather unusual tack for us. So, enjoy.

I'm a big +Tig Notaro fan, so was happy to read this on BlogHer. Not so happy that she's not coming to the Bay Area, though.

Meet the Pathfinders. For three years now Pathfinder Day has been a a focused, intense pre-conference experience at BlogHer's annual conference. It's a great way to center yourself and go into the main conference with your path more brightly illuminated and your goals more clearly understood. We'll announce the Pathfinder keynotes later this week.
Check our Pathfinder Day, it's so worth it, if I do say so myself: https://events.thepulsenetwork.com/Attendee/Default.aspx?C=70000154&M=10000085&Mode=HTML

On Monday morning, it took mere minutes before we made the call to shut down all of +BlogHer 's social sharing and publishing unrelated to the #BostonMarathon bombings. But I saw more debate about whether that's the obvious choice this time around than I had seen in the past. People seem to be overwhelmed with the the weight of what's going on in the world, and deciding how to adapt in the face of each new blow to our collective psyche.
I don't have a guideline or a rule of thumb about what "qualifies" as a sufficient tragedy to warrant action, but I can recommend this: Listen to your community. If their mental and emotional bandwidth is being completely consumed by real-time events, then step back and shut everything else down.
We offer a few more tips about what we do and why in this post.

The clever +Cheryl Contee had a brainstorm, I had an open laptop. Hence this new Tumblr: My New York Times Obituary.
After the brouhaha over rocket scientist Yvonne Brill's obit in the NY Times, we thought it would be convenient for the Times if we let them know ahead of time what we'd like to lead off our obits.
Make sure the NYT gets it right when they write your obit. If it's your "mean beef stroganoff", cool. But if it's, perhaps, something else? Here's your chance to let them know.

It was amazing spending the afternoon at the +Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research brainstorming with the dude himself, many members of his team, and lots of bright minds from the worlds of brand, marketing, social, CSR and more
The most interesting things was that for 3-4 hours this afternoon I did n't open my laptop, and checked my phone briefly during a break to make sure my dinner plans were still on. Other than that brief check-in, the focus was solely on the people in the room and the questions at hand. It made me realize how rare that is. And how valuable.
I need to figure out how to carve out more time like that into my days. It matters.
So, I probably should be talking about what we were there doing for the Foundation, and instead I'm talking about what it did for me. But isn't that always the way it ends up feeling when you're ... more »

Love +Simran Sethi , past BlogHer keynote speaker. And this is an important topic that flies totally under the radar.
Key quote: "One company controls the genetics of nearly 90% of the corn, soybeans and cotton growing in the US."
That should disturb us all.

+Michelle Magoffin has taken the grand leap into entrepreneurism, and her story is relatable to so many of you, I'm sure. I know I didn't ever think of myself as someone who wanted to start my own business.
I wanted to follow in my mom's footsteps and climb the corporate ladder.
Didn't work out that way.
Which suits me just fine :)

As always +david carr has some excellent turns of phrase in this article, most striking being:
"It was one of a number of on-the-nose statements she made from the witness stand. It is easy to forget that Ms. Stewart, who has aspects worthy of “Saturday Night Live,” altered the way that people live by decoupling class and taste."
Not a bad thing to be credited with, at the end of the day.

I got to meet the First Lady yesterday (and take many pictures of her...the best of which is below). Such an honor. Such a thrill when she knew exactly who +BlogHer was.
And I said it on Twitter and will repeat it her: FLOTUS needs to pull a Hillary and run for office. She is amazing.

But this is not that day.

So you'd think, being the boss and all, I could get people into all our conferences whenever and however I want. But in reality, a lot of our conferences are capacity-constrained, and they're priced so low for attendees that we don't actually cover costs via attendee registration. And that means, bottom line, I don't get to give tickets out like candy.
I do, however, have a discount code for the upcoming BlogHer Entrepreneurs '13...our third time doing this super-focused and intense bootcamp for women with big ideas. Each attendee get a one-on-one mentoring session with a relevant woman leader, and we have some amazing investors, executives, entrepreneurs and other role models who have signed on happily to give back in this way.
The discount is 15%, and the code is: E13BlogHerandMe
You don't want to miss speakers and mentors like:

We released a fun new infographic this morning: We Are All "The Mobile Generation" Now!
In our second annual Consumer Electronics Study, finding mobile ownership and usage to be nearly ubiquitous, we focused on what we all love and fear about our dependence on these gadgets...and teased out some differences between the generations on those topics.
Some findings are not so unexpected, while others are counter-intuitive.
Do you match your generational profile?
I actually behave more like a Gen X'er than a Boomer, but I am on the young side of the Boomer Generation, so it's not too surprising.
What about you? -Elisa

Liz Mair is a longtime +BlogHer community member and writer. She is also a longtime Republican campaign staffer and consultant.
Here's her long, comprehensive post on what she thinks is really wrong with the GOP.
I know Republicans like Liz, and they feel like the party has left them. The question is: Can they get it back? Is it time for them to form a new party? Or have the Democrats really just become what used to be moderate Republicans?
