Jasmine blooming at night...
I'll try to make some flower tea out of it.
Jasmine mixed with green tea balances the mind - it refreshes but not rushes and it relaxes without making you sleepy. It tastes good too.

The Cosmos: Macro versus Micro
☼ The images on the left are night views of brightly lit metropolitan cities taken from the International Space Station. On the right, are fluorescent images of neurons. Like a neuron, the city seems to have a cell body, branching dendrites and a main axon like highway extending out.
☼ The ancient Greeks of the Neo-Platonic school of philosophy saw the same patterns reproduced in all levels of the cosmos, from the largest scale (macrocosm or universe-level) all the way down to the smallest scale (microcosm or sub-sub-atomic or even metaphysical-level). In their philosophy, Man is in the middle.
☼ Did you know that the word cosmos (Greek, κόσμος) means "order" and is the conceptual opposite of "chaos"? In Mandarin Chinese, cosmos and universe are both translated as 宇宙 yǔzhòu, which means "space-... more »

We live in the times in which we must race to work, as previously it was a race for iron and even earlier, race for blood.
To shorten the race, we use underground. And undergrounds tend to be a scary place. Habited mostly by sad sorry faces comparing clothes and wanting things from everyday, surrounding adds. Nice and pretty things, not necessarily things they need. Definitely things their money can't buy. That's why it's loved.
Capitalism can't exist without bancrupcy, otherwise it would be heaven.

First flight in a brand new Cessna 210 Centurion II from Carenado. This one has the 310 hp turbocharged Continental engine spinning a McCauley 3 bladed propeller up to a service ceiling of FL285 (!) while carrying a pilot and 5 full sized passenger in plush comfort. My new personal favourite. If you like small planes, this is a recommended choice.

This movie shows how a brain of zebrafish reacts to seeing food (some water bug).
The next movie is far more interesting, you can see a process of thought being formed in the fish's brain while it sees the food: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=Vo3TchUQM1w
Clearly the zebrafish is not a very thoughtful being, but this technique is a fundamental leap forward in the research on human brain.

4 min lesson on Mechanical Principles from 1933 for all engineerins and students. Creepy and interesting. My favourite moment is 3:37 where square gears are presented. Normally you wouldnt expect gears to be quadratic - but there you got it, working like a charm.
Ralph Steiner, an American pioneer of filmed documents, had a talent of showing simple things in a poetic way. One of his movies ffrom 1929 called H2O [Ralph Steiner - H2O (1929)] showing abstract water patterns is recognized as a classic in modern cinematography.

Witam Państwa serdecznie w imieniu producenta magnetofonów im. Marcina Kasprzaka w Warszawie!

RIP Aaron Swartz - a 26yrz old internet legend who helped to create RSS feed as a 14 yrz old kid. He thought all his short life for freedom of web (SOPA abolishment) and against copyright law considering it as a thing limiting freedom to connect.
At the end of the day, we all knew there was going to be a bill to censor the internet. (...) So I did what you always do as a little guy facing a terrible future with long odds and little hope of succes. I started an online petition!

This comic about Archie traveling in time from 1972 to 2012 reminds me of a famous quote by Marcus Brigstocke: Computer games don't affect kids. I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd be running round in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic sounds.
Oh, wait! what happened with the morning!?

...and again, another political power puts a christian cross like a + sign over one thing and crosses out an other thing - dividing people with something which is not really important afterall.
How shortsighted is that!? In a statement on its website, the Church in Poland said that celebrating Halloween could (ie. does) contradict with Church teachings. In Poland we do not officialy celebrate Halloween - we have the All Souls Day on 1st of November. It is an official Church holiday.
However All Souls Day tradition comes from an ancient Slavic celebration of Dziady. In fact all modern Christian celebrations are pagan feasts adjusted to Church techings. Thats how Christian religion took over in Europe - limited assimilation. Still eg. a very important part of every religion - a ceremonial burial culture - if you look at Eastern and Western Europe they are two separate things, ... more »

A guy from New York, Brett Cohen, came up with a crazy idea to fool thousands of pedestrians walking the streets of Times Square into thinking he was a huge celebrity. He had bodyguards, photo reporters, assistants... everything needed to attract attention.
This kind of social experiment showed how modern people follow blindly others without any real credibility needed. Good old Le Bon's crowd theory worked again ;)

Dude, where is my horse? I have recently seen a Knights's Brethren Tournament (!) at Liw castle - a large event for 10.000 people, where various teams from Europe, clashed on medieval grounds ...and fought accordingly to a LARP style codex.
When we think of a medieval battles, fights etc. we usually refer to what we seen in movies. Those artistic moves, perfect blocks, impressive hits...
In Liw I could take a closer look at 2 vs 2 fights and it was nothing like Hollywood. Fights seemed quite chaotic - a rage vs strength kind of scenes. And I am sure it is how it was back in medieval times. Just picture eg. few tens of men running towards each other with axes and swords.. and how they clash.
All participants had special thick clothes under their armour and ofcourse - blunted arms. It was very hot on this day, in the second part of the movie you can see that one... more »

When you look at pictures of Mars made by Curiosity - they are so boring.
It is such an irony that milions of dolars were spent to get a most sophisticated piece of equipment from Earth, there, to Mars just to get this - dirt, dust and rocks.
But common! What you are looking at is MARS! It is truly wonderful.

The machine that plays the sound of beep. The faculty of Mathematics, at the University I work in, is about to move to a new building. In one of their abandoned offices I found a keyboard and steering device made by McDonnell Douglas Technical Services Company, a subsidiary of McDonnell Douglas, the famous aircraft company.

You know that reality is like a Lego model, it's made up of smaller parts. We are pieced together out of atoms. Atoms are made from protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons and neutrons are made of quarks. (Quarks and electrons, as far as we know, are elementary particles, with nothing smaller inside.) When you're talking about the Higgs Boson, you're talking about the mass of these particles. Here's an imperfect analogy: A top quark, the most massive particle we know of, is like an elephant. An electron, on the other hand, is more like a mouse. And nobody knows for certain why those differences exist.
There is a theory, though. Back in the 1960s, a guy named Peter Higgs came up with the idea that all these particles exist in a field, and their mass is a reflection of how much they interact with that field. Heavy particles have a lot of interaction. Lighter particles are... more »
