Absolutely SHAMEFUL the very obvious bias Mark Weisbrot exhibits when it comes to discuss anything about Venezuela and Venezuelan internal politics (or Venezuela's economy). And for a man that had received some very generous contributions from the Venezuelan state (and by that extension, from Venezuelan taxpayers) over the years, a man that is also married with a Venezuelan diplomat, and one that surely likes to boast all the knowledge he has regarding Venezuela, he clearly have no clue about how Venezuelan electoral law works. To say the opposition candidate is "not entitled to a recount" speaks volumes not only about who he favors in this debate, but also about his lack of knowledge regarding Venezuelan electoral process. So much of an expert.

Venezuela is in trouble - and this time, it's REAL trouble.
First milk, butter, coffee and cornmeal ran short.
Now Venezuela is running out of the most basic of necessities - toilet paper.
Blaming political opponents for the shortfall, as it does for other shortages, the embattled socialist government says it will import 50m rolls to boost supplies.
US tourists are also to blame, as "they use up three times the necessary paper just to wipe their ...",  an enraged government official said. The Obama administration denies any connection but agreed to send an emergency shipment "in case the s..t hits the fan - we're not barbarians" Potus himself opined. Awesome !

Like cattle, Venezuelans in the provinces are now being "branded" and numbered, in order to "guarantee" their access to a few packs of Harina Pan (Maize flour), a staple product down here. This picture was taken in Barquisimeto, to the west of the country, and it shows to what extreme is affecting Venezuela the scarcity of basic products. It's not only the huge and long cue one have to endure, the long hours waiting to get unos paquetes de Harina Pan . Now, you have to be willing to "get your number", so you can get your hands in what should be a product available anywhere.

Also, to ensure to the "proper authorities" that you are not going to buy more of your "allowed quota".

Comunidad, tengo el siguiente problema: Mi KVM switch (DKVM-4K de D-link) cambio la resolución de mis dos maquinas. Nunca tuve problemas a este respecto, sin embargo había un detalle. Si conectaba los dos equipos (PC's de escritorio) a la vez, una tenía la resolución bien (la principal) y la otra una resolución inferior. Ahora las dos tienen el problema... 

Tengo entendido que hay que editar EDID para poder solucionar este problema, pero no tengo muy claro cual de estas dos opciones (abajo) debo implementar para erradicar esta molestia:

More on the parliament brawl in Venezuela. I appreciate +The Guardian intention of hearing all sides, but it's worth of notice that the only ones that appear to be beaten and bruised are the delegates of the opposition. The government version of the facts appear to be pretty much on the line of "he kept beating his face against my fists" kind of story...

An this is how the current Venezuelan government deals with the opposition. Absolutely shameful! Opposition delegates are physically assaulted, as they are trying to protest against the Assembly president, Diosdado Cabello, who denied (permanently, and until further notice) their right to speak.

A list of the abuses of the Venezuelan government, on the Venezuelan presidential election, April 14th. This is why the Venezuelan opposition is contesting this election, specially due to the incidence of the so-called "assisted vote". The closeness of the results (the difference was less than 2%) and the presence of these abuses makes plausible the theory of "another outcome was possible". 

The "assisted vote" abuse was more of the most outrageous documented: Hundreds of voters were reported being escorted by PSUV officials (members of the chavista Socialist Party of Venezuela), and entering into the voting booths with them to secure the vote for Maduro. 

In an election decided by less than 300 thousand votes, the matter is quite serious...

People have took action on their own, and didn't wait for a check-up on this one from the traditional media (that is working on this too): They are verifying this on their own, posting pictures and exposing Maduro's cheap lies...

What do you get when you cross #IBD , a sinus cold, and pure exhaustion?? You get Domenic sleep while getting his #infusion  of #Remicade  at the +Children's Hospital of Philadelphia! 

Dom woke up this morning with his sinus's completely stuff, running, and coughing. Infusion days are hard enough for him, but then you add the cold on top of it, and it's pretty disastrous! But as always, Dom's bravery and strength shines as he pushes through the treatment!

Just Say No

Ever since the University of Barcelona released a report in the 1990s about the dangers of Aspartame, I have been telling people the horror story of my experience with it.  Not many people listen, most people just say that they only use a little, so it can't be bad.  Well, I underwent extreme personality changes while consuming large quantities of diet soft drinks on a regular basis, and I can't even swallow a single sip of anything that contains it anymore.  My body is so sensitive to it, and reacts so strongly, that my swallow reflex gets overridden.

What this stuff does is turned to formaldehyde, and collects in your brain.  Would you drink embalming fluid?  My advice is Just Say No to Aspartame!

When I hear people from abroad praising Hugo Chávez, and dismissing my views as "the views" of a minority, It makes me wonder two things: One, have they ever heard about the Argumentum ad Populum fallacy, and Two, have they ever seen pictures like these?

Unfortunately, what Chávez has brought to Venezuela is nothing new, or even modern: He just played with the old mob mentality. The idea that the majority is there to suppress and liquidate the minority because (according to the "majority") it has no place for them in their "ideal" society.

These pictures were taken in October 2007, during an opposition demonstration. The sign that the lady is holding says, in Spanish: Sons of fucking immigrants, get out!

(He does believe that I am part of a "high financial elite", and that I resent Chávez because "somehow he upended my status". Again, apparently I have to claim my lost wages on the whole "Oliver Stone-entrenched classes" affair)
