I have been using +feedly for quite a while.I especially love the Android version for keeping up to date on the go. Currently looking at it from the publisher's side to get all my feeds and subscribers to take the Feedly plunge!

I can really think of nothing that gives me the same feeling of nostalgia as historic Route 66. This road, a symbol of Americana, was traveled by so many and for so many different reasons. From the time of the great depression looking for a better life out west to the traveling of the road by stars like Hank Williams, Elvis Presley, James Dean, all of the great musicians and movie stars of the era. To the coming in of family vacations with families traveling the highway and that brought about a creativeness in attractions and businesses to attract the travelers to what they had to offer for sale. This shot of a drive-in is one of those nostalgic memories for me, a special treat from time to time. This drive-in is still in operation in Seligman, AZ where one can relive a part of the past.

This is going to be a very short rant: Debian Wheezy has me royally pissed off. I should have waited to upgrade because instead of my pleasant experience I had upgrading to Squeeze, Wheezy... well sucks.

Good news: a lost no data.

Bad news: I hate Gnome 3. Sorry, the glitz and glamour and what they think is minimalist stinks. They took out... well, just about everything I loved about Gnome. I am about ready to back it off to a clean install of something that support Gnome 2.

Add to this, the upgrade removed or made totally screwed things like Eclipse, something that I use constantly. Tried to do a clean install with Wheezy and I get the splash screen... and that's it. Too tired to diagnose now, something to do tomorrow.

Caveat I do not hate Apple. Precisely, I cannot afford Apple. Would be nice, but the economics just does not work. The obvious inverted apple-like drawings are not attempting to violate anyone's copyright or trademark, but to make a serious yet somewhat satirical statement.

I just finished reading an article on Mashable (http://on.mash.to/13A9PpW) posted by +Pete Cashmore and... well I couldn't stop laughing, quite frankly. An artist and a geneticist collaborated on a mashup of the geneticist's ideas about how humans will evolve over the next 100,000 years and the artist's rendition of a typical male and female sample.

Before everyone starts playing the race card (or the Master Race card for that matter), I am sure (I hope) that they were not considering blending of the various racial characteristics, etc., but highlighting overall changes. I was still... more »

Playing with a bunch of GPS and mobile GIS tools to help map the trails, features, landmarks, and signage at the Paoli Battlefield in Malvern, PA. I am doing this to assist the Paoli Battlefield Preservation Fund with +Jim Christ and +Mary Kivlin in making a base map. That map, in turn, can be used for making different maps for the web site and events that are held here. This was the scene of the Paoli Massacre in September 1777 during the Philadelphia Campaign of the US Revolutionary War.

Its good way to make more girls interested in computer science and programming, even hacking.

I think that that would be one of dreams of every programmer and hacker, to have in its own crew or team half girls half boys. Still there is really small amount of girls in tech specially in programming and hacking areas.

Fun use of a Chromebook

I felt fortunate to get a CR-48 in the early testing of Chromebook from Google. At first, I rarely used it without a network connection, courtesy of the limited 4G free service from Verizon. It is far more than a you! I probably use it at least 3 - 4 hours a day.

Of late, I am reading more and more ebooks and in places with limited internet access. So I just load up what I need on the SSD and go!

Tonight's discovery: rotate and fit the page! Easy page turning (alt left and right arrow). Plus I take notes using Google Keep which sync when I get a connection
Love my Chromebook!

I must say that I have been honored to be invited to some very nice communities on G+ and I hope those invites will continue. On the other hand, if I decline an invite, I expect that maybe a single re-invite, just in case the Google-Monster ate the first one. Twenty invites from the same person to the same community. No. No. NO.

Get a clue by reading profiles - I am not, repeat not interested in sharing travel tips in a part of the world I have never been to and have no interest (or money) in going to! Invite me once, perhaps twice, but not daily for two freaking weeks. One more, I will be pleased to share the string of invites publicly and to Google. I do believe it is called spamming.

Good Day Plussers! I am requesting your input on photo storage for use within multiple WordPress web sites.

Mary and I are currently working on a number of projects, all of which involve wrangling, cataloging, and displaying lots of photographs. Some need to be gathered into collections, most need a caption, all will be most likely have embedded/added location (latitude/longitude) information. Since these projects are for ourselves and for non-profits (i.e. low or no budget) and we embrace the efforts of open source software, we have a plethora of choices to consider.

Today's what the heck is going on comment about Debian Wheezy: I run conky to keep track of network connections and some server statistics. I tried and tried and could not get it to appear on the desktop. Today, it magically worked!

What is different today? I was trying it on Workspace 3 and it worked just like normal. It shows up on Workspaces 2 and 4. It does not appear on Workspace 1. Running (how I hate) Gnome 3 with no wallpaper set.

Any ideas?

Just saw on MSNBC that some members of Congress sent a letter to the Washington Redskins demanding they stop using that racist name for their organization.

I suggest we all write letters to the members of Congress and ask them why they have so much time to do something that, don't get me wrong, needs to be addressed while the needs of 99% of the population are being ignored when it comes to Social Security, Medicare, Jobs, Education, Gun Control, and other mundane items like being able to afford to live!
