This entire session I used ambient light only.  Good light can be found almost anywhere.  Look for open sky areas in the late afternoon when the sun is low and you'll get great fill results.

McWay Falls, Julia Pfeiffer Burns state park, Big Sur, CA

There is nothing spectacular about the waterfalls itself in isolation, but what makes it special is, it drains into the Pacific ocean directly. Well complemented by the deep blue waters of the shore, green vegetation and reflection of sunlight by the rocks, it makes an impressive subject to photograph as well. This picture was taken just about sunset.

Clicked this picture during Boston Marathon 2009, the scene of tragedy today. Shown here in the picture are three children extending their tiny hands to cheer a marathoner who is acknowledging their gesture. There were thousands of such little children, adults, and senior citizens all along the 26 mile route to cheer the runners, none of whom they personally know. Its these strangers standing along the route for 6-7 hours braving the cold/scorching heat/rain , cheering you, serving you water, gatorade, fruits and beer that make the runners want to come back to run marathons again and again. The spirit of humanity blossoms to one of its fullest forms in a marathon, and that's why it hits really hard to learn that someone could even think of placing a bomb here. It hurts even more to learn that one of the three killed so far in the bombing is an 8 year old, which is how old the three kids in this picture... more »

When our world looked twice as beautiful ... 

This picture happened while I was near the North entrance of Yellowstone driving towards Gardiner, MT to fill gas (petrol) for the car, and make a few phone calls as not many places in Yellowstone have cellphone reception. As I was approaching Gardiner, there was a spate of heavy rain which lasted only two minutes, and this was the scene that unfolded in front of me. I have never seen a double rainbow before, but have always longed to, so I was jumping in excitement inside the car, but sadly had no one to share the joy with as I had driven alone to Yellowstone from California ( Reminds me of one of Christopher McCandless's last words: Happiness only real when shared) :-) 

Had 24-105 mounted on my 5dm2 when the rainbow appeared, so changed it to 16-35 in a jiffy to cover the width of the rainbow and clicked this from inside my car, ast... more »

Drove to Glacier point on Aug-11, 2012 to capture the peak activity of Perseid Meteor Shower. The sky wasnt as clear as I would have loved, with occasional clouds moving in and out, so decided to include the clouds in my shot here to give a honest idea of how it was that night in Yosemite.
