Spin Cycle
When ever I'm at any river in this great state of Alaska during the salmon season, when the bears are feeding ….. I always see this from all the bears that I encounter …… seems like the thing to do as they dive in for their meal and as they come up out of the water……. with or without a salmon in their mouth. I call it the "Spin Cycle" Syndrome.

Two Tall
When traveling around like I do, I think that the animal that I get the least images go are deer. Wether it is white tail or mule deer, I just get enough images that I would like too. But the one thing I can say, is that when I do get them, I try really hard to photograph them in all their glory. these two Mule Deer I photographed in Colorado, in someone's little field that was mostly filled up with junk cars and just a lot of junk in general….. I was lucky to be in a position that when I took this image, none of the junk appeared …. lucky me.

Curiosity
Seems that every time I go back to brooks, I see the little ones ...... and every single time they are very curious in what is going on or what their mother is doing .... any time a bear stands .... it all about Curiosity .........

Sour Puss
When I get down to the Russian River this year, I will be looking for this guy. This guy I named "BULLY", for he is/or was a bully along the the river. Not only would you see him bullying his way with other bears in the area, he would also try bullying any person that would be on the river fishing for salmon. Most of the time he would win if you were the fisherman and had caught any salmon. Guess he knew the law better than some people do, that is if a bear comes up on you while fishing and you have any salmon, you are, by law, to give it up to him/her. I know it doesn't sound fair to some, but that is the law in Alaska. Better to give up the fish, than it is to give up your life.

What A Beautiful Morning
When I was at Brook Falls, I had rented me a cabin to stay in. I stayed at Brook Falls for 7 days and I was able to get thousands of images while I was there, but this image still takes me back right now as if I was there at that moment. I took this image right off the little porch of the cabin I was staying in on the last morning of my stay, as I was looking over the landscape and drinking a cup of coffee.

The Challenge
In this image …. I was literally in the water with this Bear and trying to think quickly on what my next move was going to be ….. dahhhhh ……. take the shot, so I did... then I was thinking about what to do next …… but as it turned out the bear decided for me …. he turn around after I took the shot and probably said to him self that I was not worth the effort …. which is … iif you spend as much time around the bears here in Alaska as I do, that this is the what will happen 90% of the time….. The Bears up here in Alaska are not interested in you as much as they are in the salmon…. But when you get confronted with one like I did in this image…. It does make the Adrenaline flow ……….

Fire Near the Madison
I took this image at the madison river in Yellowstone National Park. There was a forest fire near the madison, and as the early morning sun rose, with the early morning fog and dew rising from the warm waters of the madison …. it seemed to magnify the red in the fiery glow of the morning light, and this is the end result

Very Hungry
This image was taken in Namibia, Africa ….. it was very hungry indeed. The guide threw it a piece of meat as I was sitting down on the ground and taking the image with a Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, with a Canon 70 X 200mm lens, set at 170mm, F/2.8

Pay Me No Mind
When I took this image At Womans Bay, KodiaK Island …. that's what it look like to me as far as what this bear was thinking and doing ….. just "Pay Me No Mind" ….. seemed appropriate for the title.

The Crossing
This is another image was taken in Yellowstone N.P., While there was a fire just east of the madison River that year and as every photographer knows that when fire and smoke is in the air, it can make for some awesome and dramatic images, but also, as every photographer knows it isn't easy shooting in those conditions either. This is what I got.

Bear's In Anchorage
Bears of all kinds have been an interest of mine for as long as I can remember, and I think I have one of the largest privately owned collection of images of bears that I know of (150,000). I go over and over my collection of images to see what I have that I can show to everyone. So here's one that I came up with.
This image is from the Ship Creek area of Anchorage. There is a very large thriving population of Brown bears that live among the human population right in Anchorage city limits, so I don't have to go far to find these bears when I'm in Alaska.

Locomotion
I had moved down to Montana for 1 year over 2010 and 2011. During that time I was going to Yellowstone almost every day and it made for some very interesting shot opportunities. On this particular day, I noticed a herd of Buffalo down in the bottom. As luck would have it, they started to come up the mountain side single file through the deep snow. I knew that as they crested the snow bank I was very likely to get some unique shot opportunities. I checked their direction and positioned myself to be in front of them as they came up over the snow bank. Most of them as they topped the snow bank, saw me and cut off to either side, nice shots but not quite what I was looking for. I wanted one cresting the top in my direction. My patience was rewarded when this big bull came straight over the snow bank, with the snow flying. The shot was exactly what I had planned.
The shot was taken on 0... more »

Bully At Play

Not Pretty
As these cubs and mother were walking down the path, the mother all of a sudden jumped into Brooks river when she saw a male getting a little to close and it was almost like it was on cue the one cub covering it's siblings eyes as if to say, "It's not going to be pretty".

Looking For Someone!!!
This is the Third image in the series of shots that I took when I photograph the bears at the Russian River, sometimes I get lucky enough to be able to shoot them without their knowledge as I did with this bear …. with my chest waiters on, I was able to sit in the river and in a bush concealed from him ……. I must admit that I had to sit quietly, so as not to let him hear me, because if he did, he would have came over to investigate the noise …. the only noise that I was making was coming from the camera itself when I hit the shutter button, but with the noise of the river ….. it hid the shutter noise quite well … once again….. lucky for me

Pigging Out
When I went down to the Russian River, I saw this mother sow with triplets cubs, but as usual, she would not show them very much. It only seemed like she was more comfortable showing herself pigging out…..ergo the image name…. "Pigging Out"

Victoria Falls Overlook
When I was in Africa the last time, I wanted to see Victoria Falls so much that it was the only thing on my mine when I arrived in Zimbabwe and checked into the lodge that I was staying in ….. I made a beeline for the falls and stayed there almost all day photographing them …… It was worth it. This is an image that was at the end of the Falls where the great Zambezi River continues on and I wanted to see if I could help in getting some perspective of the immense size of the Falls … Hope this helps.

Low Profile
Well I left the house in the early morning on Mothers Day, down to Chickamauga Lake to see what images I could get and was meet at the shore with 16 great blue herons. Not concerned with me or with what I was doing. I also was trying out my new Canon 1DX, my 400mm f/2.8 and my 2X converter to see what images I was going to get with the combination before I go on my trip to Alaska on June 1st. Here are the results.
