Warm Fuzzy Post of the Evening

I'm just so fortunate to be able to volunteer some small amount of time to this wonderful environmental sciences education program. I interviewed and filmed and took photos at last year's Fall Kickoff Conference and created this short clip that the program coordinators can include in grant applications. This is also the first project I worked on while I was (still am) learning how to use iMovie. Hopefully it provides a glimpse into how great the EYE for Leaders program is!

Hangout Conversations Respect your Privacy...
Hangouts Tips

This process shows that Google+ respects the privacy of our Hangout Conversations. The right sidebar (what I call the Hangout Sidebar) is where this all started.

I had a prior "Hangout Conversation" going on with Michael (1) but wanted to add in a 2nd person to that 'conversation'. When I clicked on the Add people to this hangout icon (2), it let me choose Trevor, the person I wanted, but when I added the additional person (3) to the Hangout Conversation, it ended up opening up a New Hangout Conversation Box (4).

That way my 1:1 conversation with Michael (1) has maintained its privacy status. And when/if I want to continue the 'group conversation' with both Trevor & Michael, I now have a different 'conversation box' in which to do so.

Wonderfully supportive of my writing, posting and most of them are now close friends. When I started out, it was all about engagement, I did not expect so many friends! (I may have missed some people here due to oversight, please just comment and I will rectify it. No sleight is intended).

This is the exact video I can send to my clients who are total G+ newbies and want an easy, visual, step-by-step process of creating their G+ account so they can get into my TGIF Hangouts and into our consultation sessions because those are held via Hangout too!

And I was thinking oh crap I should make a video. But you already have, and now I don't have to. And yours is all shiny and professional, and mine are so obviously newbie learning works in progress, lol.

Do you have this broken up into 3 individual pieces? I would love to share them with clients a chunk at a time as we cover those topics in the Google+ classes +Theresa Delgado and I are teaching.

Hi +Google+ I finally switched to the new +YouTube One look, but I cannot add channel art. Whenever I click add channel art, I get a message that says "In order to select an item from your online storage, please sign in."

However, when I click the sign in link, it for a split second opens another small window, which then disappears immediately and I'm left back at the channel to try again. Plus I'm already signed in to G+, is there some other thing I need to sign into also?

Seeds of Death: How GMO foods are destroying our food supply (video, 1h 19min)

Today is March Against Monsanto day. Watching this movie, sharing it and making sure I stay away from GMO is my way of marching today.

I live in Europe where GMO is a no-no, but nobody is safe from Monsanto - like companies.

Apache's OpenOffice suite of open sourced apps rocks, and it's all free. I use it and have no problems collaborating on and exchanging files with clients who use, for example, MS Office apps like Word and Excel.

Hangouts, phone calls and Google Voice

Thanks for all of your feedback on last week's Hangouts launch. I wanted to quickly talk about 1) making/receiving phone calls in Gmail, and 2) Google Voice support more generally.

1) Today's version of Hangouts doesn't yet support outbound calls on the web and in the Chrome extension, but we do support inbound calls to your Google Voice number. We're working hard on supporting both, and outbound/inbound calls will soon be available. In the meantime, you can continue using Google Talk in Gmail.

2) Hangouts is designed to be the future of Google Voice, and making/receiving phone calls is just the beginning. Future versions of Hangouts will integrate Google Voice more seamlessly.

New Google Plus Hangouts Sidebar
Examples of what goes on there

Here are a few ideas on how to use the Hangouts Sidebar that just got introduced to our Google Plus interface on May 15, 2013. You open up the Hangout Sidebar by clicking on the Green Quote logo which now represents Google+ Hangouts.

Hangouts can be video calls or messages. The top item says New Hangout... press that to start a new session. Add the people with which you care to 'hangout' and then select if you want to start with a Video Call or a Message.

Below that we have an Active Hangout Video Call... note the green camera icon. If you press that, you will join into an active video call that has multiple people already participating according to the 4 profile pics. I clicked it and found that it was a HOA video call, and decided I did not want to enter at that... more »

Google+ has Launched the Ability for Brands to Offer Coupons to Followers

This is a huge plus for brands! Let's clarify here.. this is NOT Google putting ads into the stream. If you follow brands you like, they now can offer a coupon for you to check out. This is like following a fan page on Faceybook and them making a post about a coupon (just its easier to claim here) THESE ARE NOT the ads you see on the side of Faceybook.

Brands can now directly interact with fans of their product and provide value offers to them....

I look forward to seeing more great things from brands here on gplus. Discount tickets to events, free make up samples, or 50% off an item in their store from brands I like and follow? Sounds good to me.

This Friday, May 17th on TGIF we have the unbeatable +win charles joining us to share her story and I tell you now, it is inspirational! Win has cerebral palsy, but she has not let that stop her from reaching many achievements as a young disabled woman living in a non-disabled world.

By the time Win was 20 she had already started her own business, selling her artwork online. Win wanted to bring awareness and understanding of cerebral palsy to the community so she went and wrote and self published a book which has the awesome title, "I, Win: my journey as a disabled woman in a non-disabled world"

Win will tell us her story, and share some insights into how she earns a living using today's tools and technology to run her online business and promote her book.

Today's TGIF is all about inspiration as we learn how Win, who has cerebral palsy that limits her mobility but not her life, created a successful business selling her artwork online.

Win also does a lot to further cp awareness and education and bridge the world between differently-abled and regularly-abled people. Win wrote and self-published her book, "I, Win: My journey as a disabled woman living in a non-disabled world", and competes as an athlete on Team We Win along with her fully-abled teammate Barbara Ann.

Well this helpful little InDesign answer page is just so wonderful! Now I don't have to copy and paste everything into a whole new document. Just export to idml and those nasty little mysterious nonexistent 3rd party plugins that came with the indt template go away, as if they never existed. This page just saved me a bit of cussin' and fussin'!! Woohoo!
