My computer has its head in the cloud ...
Or at least some of the data, that is in it. New cloud service #Copy  is giving away free storage space. Truck loads of it!

After my complete technological melt down at the beginning of this year I've been moving loads of my data to the #cloud as a back up. I'm using different services because I'm trying to make most of the free storage space they all offer. Now a new player has entered the ring and he's giving away huge amounts of storage.

The original amount of free storage you get at Copy is 15 Gb which puts them in the same league as #Google . But they seem to be trying to gain momentum quick, so they are doing this limited time offer for huge amounts of extra free storage. Beat me on GeoGuesser! ...
The new game #GeoGuesser  is all the rage right now. If you're up to it, I challenge you to beat my score!

GeoGuesser is great fun. I was first alerted to the game by +Jean Egan. It uploads five #Streetview images from Google and the goal is to find out where those locations are and mark them on a map. Some are easy, because you have famous landmarks around, but sometimes you get dropped in the middle of a desert. I found that the more accurate you guess the first location the more difficult the next one will be(For example the game I mention below was desert for all five pics). The nearer your guess is to the actual location, the better your score. Top score (when you hit the location right on the head) is 6.500 points. With five locations per game that makes a top score 32.500. Mine is 31.281!

Social Media ... Sauber gets it! ...
That's the real reason why I became a #SauberF1Team fan.

I'm no fanatic fan for any #Formula1  team. As a German I usually root for #Mercedes (especially since they employed my favourite #F1  driver, #NicoRosberg ), but I supported #Ferrari  when #MichaelSchumacher  was still driving for them and I generally appreciate any team on a race to race basis, depending how well they are doing. That doesn't even necessarily mean that they have to end up in good positions, but that they gave their best. And then Sauber came along!

There are few things I'm passionate about (I'd rather do a couple of things right than 10 things half-hearted). #FormulaOne  and #SocialMedia  are two of them. And that is were the Sauber F1 Team hits the ball out of the stadium. They really get it, especially here at ourfavou... more »

The U.S.'s biggest tornado ...

I was just alerted by +Katherine Bond and +Johnny Johnsen that a F5 tornado has torn through the area near Oklahoma City. These things are terrible, but from a distance they are also fascinating. I searched #YouTube  and found a video of this monster. It's not today's tornado, but still devastating enough.

+Katherine Bond told me, that the tornado season is starting now where she lives. My best wishes go out to all those of my followers who live through this every year and to those who've lost homes or friends and family to those monsters. Be safe!

Bring it on! ...
A new #GooglePlus  app version for #Android  has been released and it brings many of the features announced for desktop at I/O last week.

All that automatic stuff that G+ now does to our #photograph  s, like auto-enhance and such, now comes to the Android app too. It also includes some #Snapseed  features, which I welcome very much since my phone is Snapseed incompatible.

There is more, though. Latitude, related hashtags, integration of the new #Hangouts  app, etc. etc. Find out in the article.

Day two at the studio ...
Cassandra and Anastasia are recording more songs and a video

We went back to the studio today to work on some of the songs we recorded the other day, record another two covers and make a video. Five and a half hours of work! It worked out beautifully though. We are now finished with the first set of songs (five of them all in all) and will hopefully get the masters and the video next week, so I can finally show you guys something. So many have been asking and I thank you very much for your interest. I think you'll not be disappointed.

The new Google+ ... Is it any good? ...
I wanted to stay out of this hype about the new #GooglePlus . There are so many around here who know so much more about this platform and are so much better in putting it into words, like +Mike Elgan or +martin shervington and +Ronnie Bincer, that I didn't see the need to add to the thousands of posts, but I've been asked by a few misguided souls, so here are my 2 ¢ worth.

Install Android apps on your PC or Mac ...

I have a few apps on my phone that I always liked to have on my PC. Like #SeriesGuide (http://bit.ly/102tWgd), which I use to keep track of what episodes I've already watched and when the next ones are going to be aired. That app would make much more sense on my PC, since that is where I watch my TV shows. I now found a way.

#BlueStack is an app, that brings the #Android app experience to #Windows and #Mac machines. It's currently in beta and free of charge. The app player comes with a selection of pre-installed apps and the opportunity to download even more. You can get them from #GooglePlay , but also from other alternatives like the #AmazonAppStore . What I like is that the installed apps open in a window, with the option to go full screen

Do they finally get it? ...

I know the tyre issue is a hotly discussed subject in the #Formula1 and I'm also aware that many don't agree with my opinion about it, but I have to say; this is about bl***dy time, and all!

I guess the idea behind reducing the life span of the #F1 tyres was, to make the races more interesting. More pit stops, more ways to win races via strategies. In my (humble) opinion it backfired, though. #Pirelli overdid it. Drivers don't drive to their limits any more, since they are more worried about  getting their tyres through the race distance than about racing. This will hopefully change again now.

What's your take? Are you one of those who say, crap tyres are just another challenge #FormulaOne teams have to overcome, or do you believe that tyres that only last 20 laps make for artificial racing, just like DRS (Oops,... more »

Google puts storage together ...

Up to now we had 10Gb of storage for our #Gmail and 5Gb for our #GooglePlusPhotos and  #Drive . This has now been put together, so we have 15Gb for all of those. I think that's a brilliant idea. I'll never use 10Gb for my emails, but I was wondering when I'll run out of memory for my #GooglePlus  images.

You all have heard and read the story of #CharlesRamsey  who helped to free those three women from nearly a decade in captivity. Ramsey lived next door to where one Ariel Castro is alleged to have kept the women in a makeshift prison until Monday afternoon. He became quite a celebrity by giving a series of interviews to Cleveland television stations as the story broke Monday night that were replayed on national news. CNN's Anderson Cooper tracked him down for a lengthy conversation the next night. The interviews are performance art masterpieces, so filled with colorful language and astute reporting that he trended on Twitter and was the subject of Internet memes and an Auto-tuned song.

An act of humanity ...

This is not exactly new (actually it's more than a year old), but I just found it now. About 30 Dolphins stranded at Arraial do Cabo (Brazil) in the morning at 8:00 AM on March 5th 2012. This could've ended in disaster for those animals, if it hadn't been for the courageous beach-goers present that day.

I'm a sucker for dolphins and needed to share this. Why don't you share it too?

An #IBD  Event I Need Your Help With

As most of you know, my oldest son Domenic, who is 8 years old, has Crohn's Disease. Just over a year ago I decided to become an advocate for #IBD , #Crohns , and #Colitis . Instead of basing my advocacy around raising money for research I felt strongly that we needed to raise the level of education around the disease. My advocacy has been growing stronger and stronger each day and I feel we are raising the level of education and working towards the ultimate goal of making IBD, Crohn's, and Colitis a household name. 

Unfortunately, education alone isn't going to bring a cure for this disease. Research must be done in order to find new medical procedures and medications that will help Domenic plus the 4 million people worldwide that have this disease.

The first official Formula 1 team community ...

As most of you are aware the +Sauber F1 Team has become a bit of a favourite #Formula1 team of mine. The reason for that is, that they don't only understand the #F1 , but are arguably the most social media orientated team around. Their interaction with their fan base (executed by a guy only known as #TheTeam , a bit like #TheStig at #TopGear ) is second to none and they've proven that they are as innovative in social media as they are on the track. And now they've done it again. They are the first to create an official fan community!

Voice-controlled home automation with Android ...

I've always wanted to fully automate my home via voice control, but was unable to do so, due to the high costs involved. Even with systems like #HomeAutomatedLiving  (in short #HAL ) or #HomeSeer it would involve several thousand Euros to get everything done and still wouldn't be able to do everything I want. I've always thought #Android practically offers itself for home automation though (I believe +Mike Elgan wrote a post about it once) and now somebody came up with just that. Only one word: WANT!

Easy way to Create Custom Overlay graphics (Hangout Lower Thirds)

I use Photoshop to make my Custom Overlay Lower Third Graphics for my Hangouts and Hangouts on Air, but many people don't have the same graphic skills or the programs to make custom overlays for their hangouts... ★ How I use +1s, comments and shares ... ★
In my last "How I ..." post (http://bit.ly/ZNdxLO) I mentioned that the best way to get noticed on G+ is to engage, interact. But what is "engaging" and how is it done best?

I've seen questions all over #GooglePlus  when it would be appropriate to use either +1, comments or shares. Do they have different values and are there rules for when to use which? Of course there are. Yours! Just like with everything else here at G+ you have to find your own way, your own rules. Let me tell you about mine and who knows? You might find an idea or two to help you making up yours!

A star is born ...

Today was an exiting day for my family and me. My daughter +cassandra graikowski had her first day in a music studio. She did a few covers of Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and Adele songs and we had great fun. You'll be hearing more from the new star on the music sky in the near future.

Are you daft like me? Are you so used by now to clicking on the bar at the top of every #GooglePlus page to scroll all the way up to the top, that you do it on other websites too and are surprised for a second that nothing happens? Do you believe this feature should be build into every website? Have I got news for you!

Obviously this is not really a #GPlusQuickTip , since it is designed to bring a G+ feature to any other website, but since it originated here, I'll be generous. Add the #extension Scroll to top (http://bit.ly/QJTtYT) to your #Chrome bowser and enjoy this nifty feature wherever you go on the web.

Please share! (Even if you did know about this already. There are those amongst your followers who don't.)

Get noticed on Google+ quick ...
This should give you a bit of a head start, if you are a "Goobie" (G+ newbie).

Many old hands here won't agree with this post. They will tell you, if you want to be successful here at #GooglePlus  you have to grow your follower ship organically (slowly). Write good content and people will notice you. And the old hands are right. They will notice you. Maybe in a years time or so and by then you'll have fallen into the #GhostTown  hole and given up. If I've created the illusion that I have the secret to instant G+ fame, I apologise, because I don't. Just like with all my How I ... posts ( #jghowi ) I can only tell you what I did, to get some interaction out of the platform straight away. Everything else builds up on that.

"Words Will Never Hurt Me" - Yea Right

You know the nursery rhyme, "Stick and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me"? Could there be a bigger lie than this? I can't believe that this is what so many of us were taught.

We ought to learn, "Words cut like a knife." Or maybe, "Words can cut, but they also can heal."

We all need to be conscious all the time of how easily our words can become like jagged glass, a knife, or even a club to someone else's spirit. And hopefully use that awareness to choose our words more carefully and wisely.
