Adobe sucks: The only thing that is missing in the newest marketing strategies is that they claim to posses all rights on our photos after putting them in the cloud.

Guess it is time to tell Adobe that they are going too far.
Even using spotify I am able to posses music.
It would be better if they are concentrating on unfinished products like Lightroom. To me it seemed that they are fixing performance issues with a new product calling LR5.
Where are the competitors delivering better solutions?
We have to do something!

"Light In Canyon X"

I did a quick edit on this photo from yesterday's adventure through Canyon X with +Colby Brown +Peyton Hale and +Casey McCallister. This, and most of my photos in the canyons so far, need only very basic Lightroom adjustments because the best part of shooting in this light and perfect limestone is that Mother Nature does all the work for you.

Beth Cavener Stichter uses the animals as metaphors for the irrational world we humans have trouble tapping into. She explains “There are primitive animal instincts lurking in our own depths, waiting for the chance to slide past a conscious moment. The sculptures I create focus on human psychology, stripped of context and rationalization, and articulated through animal and human forms.

On the surface, these figures are simply feral and domestic individuals suspended in a moment of tension. Beneath the surface they embody the impacts of aggression, territorial desires, isolation, and pack mentality.

Empire Bluff North Star
Sleeping Bear Dunes Michigan

Another fun photo adventure at the Sleeping Bear Dunes photographing star trails over the Empire Bluff! This time I brought my kids who had an absolute blast just lying on the beach watching the incredibly awesome planetarium show as only mother nature can deliver! I think we stopped counting shooting stars after 30+ and two of them were so bright and low that I was seriously waiting for the impact in Lake Michigan.

I used Star Walk app on my iPhone to help line up my shot and help explain to my kids which one was the ‘North Star’ in a sea of sparkling lights. 435 x 30 sec exposures and 3+ hrs later, we packed up for the night. It was priceless to see my kids ‘light bulbs’ go off after I processed this image when they were able to connect the dots how the earth rotates around the north star. Now they can’t waitto go bac... more »

The M6.5 flare on the morning of April 11, 2013, was also associated with an Earth-directed coronal mass ejection (CME), another solar phenomenon that can send billions of tons of solar particles into space and can reach Earth one to three days later. CMEs can affect electronic systems in satellites and on the ground. Experimental NASA research models show that the CME began at 3:36 a.m. EDT on April 11, leaving the Sun at over 600 miles per second.

The joint ESA/NASA Solar Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) captured this series of images of a coronal mass ejection (CME) on the morning of April 11, 2013 over the course of 3:48 EDT to 4:36 EDT. Mars can be seen on the left.

Privacy tip of the day: A number of sites have begun using Tynt.com's tracer technology to detect when you copy part of a web page so that they can track where that copied content is used.

While interesting, the use of Tynt by a site necessitates sending tracking information to Tynt's servers when you do nothing more than copy some text or drag an image from the browser, all without your knowledge or consent. This mechanism raises a number of security and privacy concerns.

If you don't want to be tracked by these sites you should disable it. One way to disable it is by using Google Chrome is to Check out "Tynt Blocker":

This is quite a good sound mixer tool for background noise to use for meditation, reading/working or just for fun.

The fun is that you can vary in loudness, in frequency of appaerance and you can create 4 different kind of noises at once or use less.
I have kitchen noises and forest birds in the lowest frequency and brown noise.. all fairly soft in tone and loudness, but it helps me concentrating on my task. It at least takes over the sound of the cooler of the computer (which you don't really consciously hear but is still a bit irritating and uncomfortable from time to time).

Fire in the Sky

Just when I thought things were quietening down after a busy month of asteroids, meteors and comets, mother nature went berserk Sunday night with an incredible auroral display in the skies of Australia.

We had a couple of days notice - a CME (coronal mass ejection) was headed our way for a direct hit collision sometime March 17. So I headed for the coast, hoping to get my first ever view of an aurora from Western Australia. Clouds made me sweat. A hour before sunset I was madly driving north trying to escape a line of southerly clouds :\

This is the view at 22:14 WST March 17 2013, 34 degrees south. The first couple of hours after the end of astro twilight were uneventful. I thought maybe the show was over, so went back to my truck to sleep for the night, while 2 cameras clicked away. Then an alert went off for a KP 6 level aurora. I dashed outside and... more »

I had the privilege to try the Nord Stage 2 keyboard a few weeks ago. This is the best of the best synthesizer on the market. They call it their flagship and they may call it that way. Really. And I am very critical when it comes to sounds... ;-)

This video shows just a fraction of what it can do. For instance you can make it sound like a real choir standing next to you. For composers this instrument must be such a delight to work with. And the grand piano sounds like a Grand Piano (you can even switch between Boessendorf or Steinway), and it plays like that. So Great.
For creatives a mesmerizing instrument...

This is an enlightening video about our sky of many thousands of years ago what David Talbott could make from ancient symbols and drawings from that time.

I think this video is also particular interesting for artists. The mythmaking metamorphments can still be seen in modern society.

Teenage Scientists Working on Turning Mosquitos Into 'Flying Syringes' to Deliver Vaccines

A team of teenagers interested in biotechnology is working on turning mosquitos into “flying syringes” to deliver vaccines to humans. Their company, Provita Pharmaceuticals, has already presented its research to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and has submitted a grant idea to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Provita’s sixteen-year old CEO Joshua Meier was a finalist in the 2012 Google Science Fair and a student at the Bergen County Academies. After teaming up with several other kids interested in biotechnology and business, Meier founded the company and started work on a business plan to support their research.

The first goal of the flying syringe project is to bioengineer mosquitoes to deliver vaccinations against the West Nile Virus. Most of the research iscondu... more »

Subliminal persuation.... a must watch.

Derren Brown gives marketing people an instruction for poster advertisement.... and they make what he made in advance.

This is also an example how often we are picking up subliminal messages on the road to our job... even these marketing people had no clue.

Kind of eerie, actually. Makes you wonder how often you are in life, zombie or not ;-), influenced by all the messages around you. It could be a good trick to play with your mind.
