This sort of thing interests me about society. [I assume] most people who committed the massacre have died of old age. The fact that the UK now has to pay damages and apologise to the victims seems unfair, given that none of us could have prevented it.

But we aren't individuals, we are a collective; like a bee hive. The people of a society are a ship steered by our combined thought through democracy.

So I think in conclusion the UK is to blame and we should take responsibility.

Robotic Ecosystems

Silent Running set my inventor mind wild as a child. The film is about a series of ecosystems transplanted into space and carefully regulated by automated systems and robotics. Could a miniature world be created in an enclosed space? After experimenting by jamming weeds into jars to watch them rot and die I realized that the natural environment was more caring than I could be. Upon research I discovered that plants don’t need just water, light and soil. Many other factors exist, such as the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide, levels of temperature and humidity.

I don't like this.

1.  The design is inconsistent - blur and rounded corners don't go at all with flat white and crisp icons.

2. The icons look like they're from a poorly designed Android icon pack. It's as if they've acknowledged the trend of flat design but couldn't tear themselves away from gradients, and the end result is tacky.

3. The notification dropdown can seemingly only fit two notifications above the fold. You might as well just open the calendar or weather app.

4. The 'multitasking screen' is a rip off of HTC's. And that would be ok if HTC did a decent job, but they didn't. It's a really cumbersome design.

5. All of the native apps look suspiciously like those found on Windows 8, being flat white and forcefully simplistic (but not in a simplistic-design-is-easier-to-use way).

Page Animation Library

Codrops write a huge collection of CSS animations (http://bit.ly/18mJIYO) for transitioning between pages but the supplied Javscript isn't that useful for practical use, so I wrote a plugin to make their animations much more usable.

I've added support for the location hash so the user can navigate via back/ forward buttons and 8 hard-coded animations.

I clicked a button on Linkedin called "Connect to All". It invited 620 people to connect and since Saturday I've had near continuous emails, Android + iPhone notifications about acceptances despite having all notification settings turned off.

Gmail on my Android has even broken; won't stop telling me I have 52 unread emails, even though I've marked them all as read on desktop.

The iPhone is unable to stop notifications completely, instead vibrating but not telling me what it's alerting me to.

I've resorted to marking Linkedin as spam and uninstalling the apps.

So a lesson from the wise - don't click "Connect to All".
