Jason and I will both have 10 prints on display. A majority of the work is new, with a number of the pieces being printed for the first time for this show. If you're interested in photography but you've only been involved since the advent of digital capture and internet sharing, you might enjoy coming out to see some photographic prints hung in a gallery setting. Many people aren't aware of the fact that seeing a physical fine print in person is a completely different experience than viewing a digital photo on a screen.

Grandfather Oak and Winter Storm Clouds at Dusk, Placer County, California

This image was captured at dusk, just as dark was setting in. I purposely processed the image with gentle tones and low contrast in an effort to show the subtlety of the soft blanket of gray light that was enveloping everything that evening. Subtle images like this get lost amidst the high impact images often shared on the internet, but I suspect the soft grays and fine details will print beautifully at 30"x30".

This was captured with my 5D MkII, but as an experiment I processed it from start to finish on an iPad 3 using ArtStudio and a Wacom Bamboo stylus. I'm pretty happy with the results. This set-up seems to be a viable alternative for serious photographers who are either on-the-go or budget challenged. When compared to the version I processed on the big computer using Lightroom/Photoshop/SilverEfex, the differences are there, but I wouldn't deem them overly significant. It's worth noting that processing on the iMac compared to the iPad took approximately twice as long due to the more complex process.

I was pleased and honored to learn that three of my gelatin silver photographs were chosen for the Viewpoint Photographic Art Center's juried exhibit "XII: Square". This year's juror is Byron Wolfe, Professor of Communication Design at California State University, Chico. He's known for his work in rephotography projects of Western and Central America, evocative narratives, and still life with documentary overtones. Over 100 artists submitted 400+ photographs this year; 72 were chosen for this exhibit.

I was pleased to find out today that my photo "Hammon Grove Riffle, Study 1" was juried into the California Fine Arts exhibition taking place at the California State Fair in July. This year's photography juror is Professor Sharmon Goff, Design Department Chair, California State University, Sacramento. If you're attending the fair in Sacramento this year, the exhibition will be in Cal Expo Building 7 from July 12 through July 29.
