TIMESHIP: The Architecture of Immortality
We have long been fascinated by the possibility of immortality even as we accepted death as inevitable. However, recent scientific advances suggest that aging and death are genetically programmed and might someday be slowed or even eliminated. We are now entering an era in which the exponential growth of technology will soon create a world that we, at the beginning of the 21st century, will hardly recognize. Practical immortality may be a significant part of this world to which Timeship will take us. Created by architect Stephen Valentine, Timeship's six-acre structure will be a center for pioneering research to indefinitely extend the healthy human lifespan, as well as the world's most secure and technologically advanced facility for the storage of cryopreserved biological materials, including DNA, organs for transplant, and whole mammalian... more »

Transhumanist Aesthetics of Life Extension: new persons/new platforms
Transformative human enhancement means prolonging life and enhancing personhood. It is an artistic approach that engages exploratory technologies and design-based strategies. It proposes that our biology, even if regenerated and augmented, is just one aspect of life extension. Our person—the core of who we are and how we experience the world—must be preserved. How to accomplish this is pivotal in developing new platforms for existence. In doing so, transformative human enhancement suggests the transdisciplinarity of established artistic fields such as body/performance art, wearables, and bio art. But we can to do better than this! We need to integrate these fields with virtuality and the emerging technological tools of nanotechnology, regenerative biotechnology, artificial general intelligence, and neuro engineering. Building on my ... more »

Special guests Ben Goertzel and David Pearce join hosts Phil Bowermaster and Stephen Gordon to examine the question of mind uploading.
Is the human mind ultimately a sophisticated piece of software that will one day be translated to run on another platform -- namely, a computer? Will human beings be able to upload their memories, their personalities, and their ongoing subjective experience to a machine substrate?
These questions have been hotly debated of late with prominent figures taking a stand both against and for.
Who to believe? Tune in!
About Our Guests:
David Pearce is a vegan activist and author of The Hedonistic Imperative(1995), an online manifesto urging the use of biotechnology to abolish suffering throughout the living world. In 1998. he co-founded with Nick Bostrom The World Transhumanist Association (H+).

Robo Raven is a truly clever robot flier—it can dive, spiral, even back flip. Although up close, Robo Raven’s reflective body doesn’t look very hawk-like, its wing motion and silhouette are realistic enough to fool a hawk into attacking it.

In his key note at IDF Beijing, Intel CTO- Justin Rattner, discribes a vision for connected and sustainable cities where information technology helps to address challenges of clean air, clean water, better health and improved safety.
He also explained how today's mobile, urban lifestyle is demanding faster and cheaper wireless broadband communications.
Forecasting a move beyond the information age, Rattner described a new era that's been called "the data society" and showed how information in the cloud will work on everyone's behalf, collaboratively and safely, by analyzing and relating different data to deliver new value to individuals, enterprises and society as a whole.

Robert Gordon says that the era of big innovation is over and that U.S. economic growth could slow dramatically as a result. Erik Brynjolfsson says that innovation is far from over and, that instead, we are simply feeling the growing pains of a shift from an economy based on production to one based on ideas. At TED2013, the two debate.

IS IT A HOAX?
My first reaction to this news was thinking that it was a hoax. While reading I realised that it comes with 'Stanford seal' which makes it no hoax.
Dr Steven Greer, who led the project and documentary, has hit back at critics who claim the body is a hoax.
'The CAT scan clearly shows internal chest organs -lungs and what appears to be the remains of a heart structure,' he said.
'There is absolutely no doubt that the specimen is an actual organism and that it is not a hoax of any kind.
'This fact has been confirmed by Dr. Nolan and Dr. Lachman at Stanford.'
So there we go .. they found something that is going to create an HUGE debate ....

American author, inventor and futurist Raymond Kurzweil has become well known for predicting the future of artificial intelligence and the human race. His first book, The Age of Intelligent Machines, published in 1990, put forth his theories on the results of the increasing use of technology and predicted the explosive growth in the internet, among other predictions. Later works, 1999's The Age of Spiritual Machines and 2005's The Singularity is Near outlined other theories including the rise of clouds of nano-robots called foglets and the development of Human Body 2.0 and 3.0, whereby nanotechnology is incorporated into many internal organs.

This video, released by the IDSIA Robotics Lab as part of the ongoing work in the EU-funded project IM-CLeVeR, shows recent skills learned by the iCub humanoid.
The IM-CleVeR project, launched in 2009, aims at “developing a new methodology for designing robots that can cumulatively learn new skills through autonomous development based on intrinsic motivations, and reuse such skills for accomplishing multiple, complex, and externally-assigned tasks.”
This documentary gives an overview of the technologies, architectures and algorithms required to make this humanoid robot learn more autonomously. Skills include active perception, reasoning and manipulation of the environment.

One day, we may be able to check e-mail or call a friend without ever touching a screen or even speaking to a disembodied helper. Samsung is researching how to bring mind control to its mobile devices with the hope of developing ways for people with mobility impairments to connect to the world. The ultimate goal of the project, say researchers in the company’s Emerging Technology Lab, is to broaden the ways in which all people can interact with devices.
In collaboration with Roozbeh Jafari, an assistant professor of electrical engineering at the University of Texas, Dallas, Samsung researchers are testing how people can use their thoughts to launch an application, select a contact, select a song from a playlist, or power up or down a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1. While Samsung has no immediate plans to offer a brain-controlled phone, the early-stage research, which involves a cap studded with E... more »
