when I try to access Picasa now, it just takes me to my Google photo albums page...

The other night I was driving my son to Football practice and we passed by the local cemetery.
As we were going by he got agitated and said "Can you believe that!!?? Look at all that garbage on those soldier's graves!! Why would people just throw all that there. That's so disrespectful!! There's a garbage bin only 10 feet away!!"
I agreed with him and inwardly smiled, and gave us a pat on the back. We must be doing something right.
So then while he practiced I walked back to the cemetery, picked up the garbage and threw it in the bin. Just to make his thoughts count.

Milky Way Moonrise
New Hampshire
Here's a shot from very early today. I knew I had an hour between the time that the Milky Way would be fully visible and the time that the moon would rise. It's hard to tell in this super wide angle shot, but that is a crescent moon rising over the horizon. It didn't wash the sky out quite so bad when it was low, but as it rose the sky became brighter. It was really beautiful to see a perfect orange crescent moon low on the horizon.

In case anyone is like me and likes to see who has plussed something, the button is gone, but you can just click the white space near the little people photos at the bottom of the post and it switches over. Then click the top return button to go back.

ok - yeah, its new. It's confusing. It's like someone came into your house and moved all the furniture around.
But it's also like taking the wrapper off a new phone, or learning where the controls in your new car are.
At the last upgrade people freaked out about everything too. Remember the whole White Space freak out?
Now people are complaining that the white space is gone.
BTW - I think this looks like the iPad app...
Anyway, take a deep breath. Relax. Think of it as an adventure. Have some fun with it. Explore it. Be mindful of the horrendous amount of hours put into it by the hard working Folks at Google.
Then, after a few days, think about how you feel. I bet it will grow on you.
Let's do something different and embrace change for once.

Small Moon Rising
This afternoon there wasn't much of a sunset as it was a very clear sky however I found the light and the layers of colour to be an interesting element and it seemed to match in well with the colour in the rocks.

ok, well, I guess it's not a secret that I like to share new people who I find that I think have pretty great photos..... and for the most part, when I do share someone, quite a few people look at them. ok -it's not like I have THAT many followers that you will get hundreds or anything, but on average, when I share people, they get a fairly decent amount of new followers.
If you think your work is something that I would like to share to my followers, or if you know of someone's work who you think is amazing, let me know.
I really want to encourage new people who are having a hard time finding followers to stay and post here.. we need to give them a reason to stick around to grow the photographic community.

This is a bit long, but important; so read on at your own risk ;)
There are times when we all feel like we deserve a little more credit.
With today being Mother’s Day, I’m going to use that as an example.
Us Moms..... we do it all don’t we? Cooking, cleaning, teaching, driving, attending, thinking, arranging, working, worrying, fussing, scheduling, problem solving, doctoring, consulting, etc, etc.
There are days when all we do is work and run and the people in our lives don’t realize all the things we did for them, and take us for granted. There are even days when people make us feel like we don’t do enough, or maybe that we didn’t do anything at all. Those days suck, right?

Life is Precious in the Forest
In southern Ontario there are pockets of Carolinian forest which are becoming more scarce these days, our family has a 36 acre Carolinian managed forest which I enjoy spending time on. This morning I was up at 4:30am and in the forest by 5am to experience another awakening of birds and wildlife. While sitting at a huge maple tree I heard a faint grunt behind me, as I peered around the tree this day old fawn was just getting up on it's unsteady legs. It dawned on me that I had seen its mother feeding earlier, the mother will "place" the fawn in a safe location and go about foraging for spring shoots while the fawn lays motionless on the forest floor, this is a natural instinct the fawn has to avoid detection from predators.

When The Heavens Fall Down
Went out to catch this beautiful sky tonight and was delighted with the show!!
It was so windy though, that try as I might to stand still I still was being blown around, so it's not as sharp as I would like, and not even my tripod could handle that wind, but it was still SUCH a pleasure to have our colourful and interesting skies back after such a long and boring sky winter!!
Man... it sure is cold out there in the open with that wind howling the way it is though... brrrrr.......... I'm freezing....

Just wanted to show you this.. we have a little game we play with our dog. It's hard to catch her doing it on video but I got her the other day. Sometimes she will go on and on and on.
Sydney is a rescue dog we adopted a few years ago. She was beaten and neglected by her former owners, and she came to us with many problems of mistrust and being afraid/aggressive.
We have turned her around and she is now a wonderful pet and companion, and as loyal to us a a dog can be.
It's nice to look at her smiling and playing, as she never used to, and know that we have given her a much better life.
Consider adopting the next time you are looking for a pet. All they need is love ;)
ps - sorry for the bad howling on my part.. I'm much better at it during a full moon... ;P

For anyone that may find this helpful...
One of the cons of sharing a photo to multiple communities is the multiple posts doing so creates on your stream. This looks like multiple posts of the same photo on your stream. If a viewer wants to comment on a post, they may have a hard time finding the version of the post you shared as "Public" (unless they are a member of the particular community that you shared that particular post to, they will not be able to comment)
While I don't really share photos to communities, I found a small setting that may prove helpful for those of you who do...

THese are hand made by beautiful, blond +Mandy Sloan to help me keep my kitchen floor scratch free (wish I had found her and her knitting sooner before the scratching started!)
I remember my mom having booties on her chairs and they were pretty ugly but I think Mandy did a great job on these!

So thanks to the PlusOneCollection I've been looking back over my images from the past year. It's quite good fun - though challenging to pick a favourite. Especially as the one I originally thought of probably doesn't print too well (the middle image). So I thought I'd share what I think are my best/favourites partly because a number of people have been kind enough to circle me recently and they may not have seen these and partly because you might just be able to help me make up my mind (though I think I know which one I'm going to go with).

Do These Wings Make My Butt Look Big?
Had so much fun playing with the lady bugs yesterday. THis one landed on my knee and put on quite a show for me stretching out his wings before flying away. I shouldn't have had such a shallow DOF though ... I'll remember that next time! ;)

Just You And I
Today it was so beautiful and warm out, so I decided to go out and get some yard work done. That's right... the snow is gone (except for in the shadowy spots) and I was raking grass and cleaning out my flower beds.. and just like every spring, I was cleaning around my lady bug bed.
You see, I have a flower bed in my front yard, that the lady bugs just love. At first sight you don't see them there, but all I have to do is move some stuff around. Rake a little bit of loose leaves. Give my Lemon Thyme bushes a brush and release the heavenly scent of lemons, and suddenly the lady bugs wake up and come out to play.
They were a delightful lot today, coming out in droves and flying all around and landing all over me, making me giggle and making it nearly impossible for me to catch them. I guess that 7 months of shooting nothing alive will... more »

In the past few days I've had a lot of notifications going through that I have not gotten emails for.
It seems as though if I'm tagged in another person's conversation those emails are not going through, and even just this morning I've seen about 4 comments directed towards me that no emails came for.
I apologize if you've tried to contact me and I haven't responded. Honest, I'm not trying to ignore anyone. :(
Notifications are useless to me most times... especially if I am away for a day and have 99+. They are a nasty bitch to sort through,
This problem has been ongoing on and off for a few weeks now, and not just for me.
+Google+ Help I know you are aware of people having these problems and have been trying to fix it, but this has been going on for a long time now.
