A lot of people think Twitter is turning into a media product -- that Twitter wants your photos, videos, audio, in the future maybe television shows, music, blockbuster movies.
I think that's a really narrow way of looking at Twitter. Twitter isn't a media product. Twitter is a broadcast platform. The people who use Twitter exceptionally well treat it as such.
Twitter is the same as radio and television, with two exceptions. You can usually only zero in on one radio station or television station at a time. On Twitter, you get multiple sources, in real time, all in one place. It's also a pseudo-interaction platform. Obviously, if you have 50,000 followers, you'll never be able to respond to all of them. But if you have 50,000 followers, you're probably broadcasting something really interesting, or something that people want and aren't getting elsewhere.
