|Louis Gray||195,863||Happy Thanksgiving: Here Are 100 Incredible Google+ People #circles #sharedcircles #gratitude #thanksgiving I was thinking about writing some "Why I'm Thankful for Google+" post and telling you many of the reasons I enjoy this network, but the truth is, no matter what features or unique qualities are poured in here, it wouldn't amount to next day leftovers without you guys. So I walked through my Circles and wanted to highlight, for you, 100 of my closest friends from Google+, whose posts I regularly enjoy, engage with, and many of whom reflect my offline relationships as well.No pages or brands are in this "Top 100". But you won't go wrong by adding this circle of sharp, engaging, humorous, clever and unique people. Thank you for being part of Google+. Didn't make this list? |Kyle Beck||162||So, I know a lot of my friends who have joined +Google+ wonder "What's the point? I have a Facebook." Well that comparison was flawed from the beginning, although many people made it while trying to describe G+. There are similarities, but one of my favorite features in G+ has been the ability to share Circles with others. In fact I'm not sure I would see the point if I hadn't been shared this very circle by +Robert Scoble (IIRC) early on in my G+ membership. It has proven an invaluable source of up-to-the-minute Tech News over the past year and really showed me how G+ is very different from FB.See, when you visit FB the information you receive is solely from your family and real-life acquaintances. This can be great for keeping up with people you don't see regularly, etc., but it is very hard to reach out to new people who share your interests through FB. Not so on G+. You can create and share groups of friends and pages (Circles) to organize your social interests. In effect, this creates dynamic communities where you can choose who you interact with.Anyways, I hope you will consider adding this Circle, packed full of Tech Enthusiasts. If you don't really use G+ or wonder what the point is, that goes double for you!||2012-06-30 00:28:36||488||10||0||3||CC G+|

|Ryan Howard||112||So I'm actually really digging Google+. It seems that a lot of folks have given up on it as simply a Facebook alternative, but I think that's the wrong way to look at it.Really I think it's best to look at G+ as a hybrid of something like Twitter, FB, RSS and a blog. While you can use it to keep in touch with friends it also offers a lot of opportunities for sharing information and ideas across a wide variety of people. For example I started following this Google circle that I'm sharing, from it I've learned a LOT about android development, chrome and other google projects, but at the same time I've learned more than I imagined about the science of coffee brewing and some great travel destinations. One of the important steps to actually using Google+ effectively seems to be realizing that it's not all about your "wall/stream" as a catch all. The tool seems to be much more effective when you skip through your streams by circle. For example, when I want to see what my friends are up to I check that Circle's stream, when I want to see what my friends in the States are doing I can check out that stream, or if I'm looking to see what different projects are coming up through Google I check my Google Circle's stream.I think it's also important to realize that unlike facebook but like twitter, you WANT to follow people you DONT KNOW. Don't be afraid, there are lots of interesting folks and posts out there and if you see something interesting, give that person a follow and throw them in a Circle that makes sense. Then going forward you can target your posts to people in the circles that might find them interesting.Anyway, the tl;dnr: Use circles, follow people, be a nerd.. and more importantly let's share some circles. If you have one with interesting people, share it like this and you'll really see the potential of the site open up.||2012-01-19 23:34:02||66||6||0||3||CC G+|

|Chris Hoyt||3,183||Circle Back to GoogleLooking for people who work at Google? Here's a great circle that's a strong addition to any search you've already performed on Google Plus and that I'd include with any other search for Googlers that you've already conducted. What's interesting to me (and that I'm getting around to pointing out) is that whether you're just looking to expand your network as a member of Google+ or actively #recruiting and #sourcing online, I believe that you'll find infinite value from the proper care and feeding of Google Plus circles. In fact, if done correctly (and maintained) it's a fantastic way to filter your Google Plus stream and check the pulse of any company, organization or interest group. In the event you missed it, I did an article back in August that mentioned my interest in Circles and how I'd be exploring the management of them. (http://www.recruiterguy.net/recruiting-management-circles) So far, I've not been disappointed in the ability to really hone in on an area of interest by filtering my streams based on these circles and simply watching the conversation flow. Of course, being able to quickly see all of the updates from a particular company or interest group is just the start. The more proficient we get with our filtering, the easier it is to get the latest from fun entrepreneurs, CEO's, diversity interest groups, active and passive jobseekers and more - these are just a few of my own circles, mind you. You have the ability to filter by profession, seniority, geography, language, etc.The possibilities are endless!I'd love to hear how you, or others, are using circles to manage the information stream you've found in G+ so far.||2012-01-04 20:07:36||348||2||1||1||CC G+|
|Steve Jaszczak||2,906||A Resolution For 2012Warning: Long post!Earlier today, I was having an interesting conversation with +Coenraad Loubser about Google and the the potential of Google+. The conversation was sparked by a "devil's advocate" type post that - considering how much of a Google fanboy I am - certainly managed to get my attention! It got me to thinking about the role of the user in all of this; the question of how much influence we can have in shaping the product that Google+ becomes. Coenraad made some excellent points about the potential of Google+ to be an extremely powerful knowledge-sharing tool. And I absolutely agree! For me; that is where the true magnificence lies in the future-state of the Google+ platform. The knowledge we can acquire by interacting with people from around the world; from different backgrounds and different social circumstances, is truly awe inspiring.I believe in the vision of a social and intellectual web of connections that could arguably do more good than anything on the internet that has come before it. It's not just about the dissemination of information; it's about the acquisition of knowledge. Anyone can read a book; but I believe we learn more through practical experience and interaction with others. All that said, it's the responsibility of everyone who shares that vision to make it a reality. The clever coders at Google can provide us with the platform; but we can help provide the inspiration for those lines of code by being vocal and demanding of the service WE want. How can you help? For starters; you can add a few of the Googlers who make things happen to your circles (shared circle included below). Engage them in conversation (whether that conversation is specifically about Google+ or not). If you consistently use your voice; you might actually get heard!Know who is in chargeEveryone who cares about the Google+ platform should have +Vic Gundotra in their circles. He's the head honcho who can make things happen. What's more; he reads all the comments on his posts (and often the +mentions of him). You may not often get a response but it pays to be vocal with Vic around. Then of course there is +Bradley Horowitz who reports to Vic. Always worthwhile commenting on his posts.Maybe you have ideas about the mobile app and the games section? +Punit Soni is the guy for that!Think you have an idea to improve Hangouts? +Chee Chew is the boss of that. But there are plenty of people working on the Google+ project that I'm not going to mention right now. Check them out via the shared circle below. Community managers like +Natalie Villalobos are always worth mentioning because they somehow manage to read all their +mentions!||2011-12-28 12:33:33||29||0||0||2||CC G+|
|Steve Ward||234,772||Please share this post if you like my circle. This circle represents my main stream. I follow brands & people of interest to me. You may wonder why I would be interested in people like +Jillian Michaels or +Adrian Grenier but my answer to that is that I often want to see how "celebrities" and experts manage their accounts. How active are they? How authentic are their posts? Is it obvious that they are not actually posting for themselves. I find it humorous when celebrities try to maintain their allure and distance themselves from their fans. Why does a +Tyra Banks have to make such a big deal out of a Hangout? Just Hangout. That should be the new +Google+ slogan. Only ten people (unless you bend the rules like I have before) can be in a Hangout at once and if you individually invite them none of the Chrome Extensions like MyHangouts or Hangout Canopy will find the Hangout unless you're one of the people that were invited and are using the extensions. Obviously Tyra was doing this to drum up attention and create a stir but to me at least, the whole announcing and promoting of her Hangout seemed a bit elitist. It's remarkably simple to stream a Hangout through a Ustream, Livestream or YouTube Live (if you have an account) so why not just hold a contest for the people you're going to invite to the Hangout and let everyone else know when its happening and where they can watch. Just my two cents.||2011-12-07 21:55:44||140||2||11||10||CC G+|

Hey John Spelich -- We agree that the Aliyun OS is not part of the Android ecosystem and you're under no requirement to be compatible.
However, the fact is, Aliyun uses the Android runtime, framework and tools. And your app store contains Android apps (including pirated Google apps). So there's really no disputing that Aliyun is based on the Android platform and takes advantage of all the hard work that's gone into that platform by the OHA.
So if you want to benefit from the Android ecosystem, then make the choice to be compatible. Its easy, free, and we'll even help you out. But if you don't want to be compatible, then don't expect help from OHA members that are all working to support and build a unified Android ecosystem.

We were surprised to read Alibaba Group's chief strategy officer Zeng Ming's quote "We want to be the Android of China" when in fact the Aliyun OS incorporates the Android runtime and was apparently derived from Android.
Based on our analysis of the apps available at http://apps.aliyun.com, the platform tries to, but does not succeed in being compatible.
It's easy to be Android compatible, the OHA supplies all the tools and details on how to do it. Check out this blog post that explains how we think about compatibility and how it relates to the ecosystem we worked hard to build:

How a rumor gets factualized: Cloudcar are a group of friends who I give free office space to in my incubator in Los Altos. Revel Touch (Mar Hershenson's company: www.reveltouch.com) is another cool company that shares this space. I'm not joining either one and I don't have any plans to leave Google. See you on the 27th!

Walking around Mobile World Congress and seeing the Android ecosystem at work is quite impressive. There are over 450,000 applications in Android Market. Some of the developers who built these apps are showing their latest and greatest in the Android stand. But the ecosystem doesn't sleep. Our partners have activated a total of 300 million Android phones! Currently they are activating over 850,000 phones and tablets per day.

...and for those wondering, we count each device only once (ie, we don't count re-sold devices), and "activations" means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.

When we launched Android in 2007 we asked some kids if they had a magic phone, what would it do? At the end one of the kids was drawing Ice Cream. Coincidence?
