Jeff Smith61,445Welcome to The Selfy Sunday Project for April 7/13. *Theme*: *True Colors* What we are looking for is a dominant color element in your Selfy. It could be in the shot itself or in the processing or in a combination of both. The meaning of the color in the shot will be up to the photographer. Metaphorical and or literal interpretations  are welcome of course. There are 16 moderators who can assist you along the way with SPP. Jeff Smith61,445Welcome to The Selfy Sunday Project for *December 2/12* _PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS EVENT IS NOT FOR THIS SUNDAY, NOV. 25/12._ Theme: *Bond, James Bond!* I want to see Selfy's that are inspired by *007* and the James Bond films. Lots exotic locations, action packed chases as well as numerous villains and sexy leading ladies to offer inspiration here. Or just stick to a more general "SPY" or cloak and dagger noire theme. Either way it should be fun. _Props may come in handy here!_ ________________________________ The Halloween SSP was the scariest, most ghoulish, terrifying Selfy Sunday ever. The submissions were amazing. Well done everyone. As always I want to thank +LaDonna Pride    for all of her hard work and she will be helping along the way as our co-host.  Thanks everyone we are all looking forward to some great Selfies. Sean Cowen43,829My Morning Circle: By Far, The Most Interesting and Unusual Circle I've Ever Created...In the beginning of October, I asked people to dig down deep and give me names of great people to add to a must-read morning circle. ( http://bit.ly/16ow9Cm ) This is the FIRST CIRCLE of those names. I have omitted a few names by my own prerogative and I've left off PAGE names as I'd like to create a separate circle for those. By and large, though, this list is the result of all the recommendations I received. There are more names to follow, as I'm still working down through the comments...What I Originally Asked of Anyone Leaving Comments and Recommendations...I'm looking for a SINGLE CIRCLE of pure awesomeness - a circle that gives me incredible content, insight, analysis, humor, a dose of the erudite, funny, sad, melancholy, happy - in short - I'm looking for one circle to throw into my stream that gets my days started off on the right foot. But I need your input. Who should I add to this circle? We all know the usual suspects (and some of those people will definitely be included if you recommend them), but I am seeking and searching for those little mentioned and possibly unknown to me people who will jump start my day.I'm not looking for popularity or anything specific - just let me know about the people you would include if you were creating this same circle. #circle   #coolcircle   #recommendedcircle   #circleoftheday  P.S. Added myself against my better judgement as I was chosen on this list as well. Now you know... :-)2013-10-20 15:53:26499612966

Jason Ramsey10,304#circles  I've been so busy sharing other peoples circles I haven't done one of my own in a while, so here it is.This is a #circle  that is made up of the most active people on my profile so far this month. It also includes a new page I've started devoted to music that bears the same name of a website I run, #TotalClassicRock . Oh, dear.
Too early on a Sunday, and I've already been up a couple of hours.

Too much to do in preparation for a trip that is still a week and a half away. Too many things bouncing in my head.

So for today -
Clear it!
I will think of nearly nothing, so that I can get done one thing at a time. One small to-do list of things for house and home, taking care of me and the Bearded Guy and the cats, making sure one project is finished by tomorrow morning and then the insanity may begin. No insanity today. I simply can't do it.

But tomorrow's list will be long, things that need to be done so I can get through the final stages of this planning and be ready to leave.

There is coffee, there is what appears to be sunshine, the wind has died down a bit and my computers are running. This is all a good thing. Maybe today is just playtime for me.G... more »

This wall is now empty - these were the last three we had hanging up before the packing process started.
Several things this morning...
Major thanks to our summer intern, professional artist in her own right, and all-around great friend, +Addis G  - for her assistance in choosing pieces, for leaving University for a week to come be here and help out, for being a voice of reason in the stress between the Bearded Guy and I as we figured out the best way to get these things ready for hanging on Thursday and packing up so there is less stress today.
Congrats to +John Thelin  - for having 2(!) pieces already sold, plus a special 4-piece set on request already. Does that mean I can count 6 for the show already?
The pieces are packed, the toolkit is packed, the artist himself may actually be ready for this.
His two assistants (me and Addis) are as ready as we will get. There's stillw... more »

Too early for a Sunday, but I've been busy since earlier than this.
Do you try to sleep in some days, or is your schedule so fixed that you can't even sleep late on the weekends?

Friday musings...
The decision has been made after much discussion and thought. I will most likely not even try to work while on this trip. I will finish what projects are currently on my desk, but will not take on any more, effective at 5 pm today.

My clients have been told, however, that if I do indeed have time (and plenty of it!) that they might get an email asking for text projects.
LOL

I am happily finished with several things, have lists upon lists of trip planning, enough work to keep me busy this weekend, and the only sad face currently is a bit of delay on client payments.

This is something that simply must change across the board - freelancers (and corporations) should be able to expect timely payments. And quite frankly, in this day and age, digital payments should be possible even on weekends. If a due date falls on a Saturday, the payment should be... more »

How far in advance do you plan your monthly budget? And do you hold weekend play money from the first of the month to last you all month, or do you get those funds with each paycheck/payment?___

Hello, Wednesday stress!

Oh - and finding my camera. Or cellphone. Neither of them seem to be where I thought I left them. This is not groovy. And I have freshly-painted nails to show. Might have to ask the Bearded Guy for a photo...

It's a good thing he knows how to use a phonecamera...

The fun part about online discussions - nobody can see what I look like when I have just rolled out of bed.
In need of a shower. In need of more coffee.
In need of ... ambition for the day.

Did not wake up well today, but that's probably because there was no soaking in the tub last night. So that's probably very soon on my list of things to do today.

Two nights ago, we had a discussion with a friend who was making cupcakes for his daughter's party at school. Yes, I'm that malleable - I wanted cupcakes!
So yesterday, the Bearded Guy picked up some things that allowed for cupcakes last night.
18 cupcakes... there are 3 left. Me, the Bearded Guy and our Intern-turned-university-girl. We ate all but three of them.

And today? Well, along with a shower and possibly a bathtub soaking, there is a kitchen in need of chocolate powder clearing. How... more »

Ah, the joy of mess-making in the kitchen!

Perhaps the last three are for my brunch in a little while?
How long do cupcakes last when you make them?

There is accordion music outside today.
Don't get me wrong. I have also played accordion and will again, one day. But this guy... oy veh.

There is work waiting for me. Yay!
As soon as I am just a bit more awake, and if possible, they have a different file format which will make the return a bit faster, then I will get started.

We had a visitor yesterday and she may be able to come back later in the week. My intern-turned-university-student is in town for a week! Yesterday we chatted, painted her nails (I'm still not sure I'm thrilled with the result, I may have to do something else to those) and had a good evening-into-nighttime visit.
Plus, the animals love her, so they were glad to see her again.

Plans continue for my trip, the weddings and birthday, the visits with friends... anyone want to plan a June getaway with me?

Goodmorneve and hot coffee, Giggleplus!

I need to get moving faster.
Last night on the phone, I told my granddaughter that I would paint my nails and send her a photo.

I have just started... good thing there's a 6-hour time difference, I still have time left to get on this!

With what little time there is in any given day, it's amazing how much we do manage to get done around here, since both of us are at less than our best.

One small sad face this morning - if my reading is correct, we missed out on a rather large, semi-important project. Part of me wishes I knew who it went to and for how much. Part of me doesn't want to know.

Otherwise, the sun is shining, I'm on coffee number three, it is not yet noon and there are plans to try to actually leave the confines of my couch today.

A week since I've posted?
Good grief, more than a week?

Well, a few of you have seen me - I've commented here and there, dropped a few plusses here and there.
But mostly it has been a very busy week. Delays everywhere I turned and nothing I could do about most of it. Meh.

But yesterday - the Bearded Guy returned from his Berlin Adventure - Round whatever-the-number-is.

While he recovers from his trip and the sore throat he picked up on his last day there, I am just going through receipts and tickets and paperwork. A few things here and there that are work-related.

We finished one major project, and the second one is as done as can be for now. Waiting on finals for that one.
I have today.... off?

Hmmm ... should paint these nails again. Though I have to say that last week-and-a-day-or-two when I painted them, they have not been repainted yet and they still look pretty good. One pinky nail managed to break a little and there's definitely space between polish and cuticle where growth has occurred, but the tips still look pretty good, considering.

Yeah, I'm liking my new Models Own It gel top coat. I think that's my new go-to.

Still on colors brought in from Christmas and January shopping and Valentine's day... and here it is, nearly April! The Bearded Guy chose every red he could find in a P2 Collection - so I took five of those for this set of fingers.

It's going to be a while before I'm caught up with all the new stuff.

Yes, that pinky finger needs some help. Okay, all the cuticles do. Even with the amount of rain outside, evidently the air inside is still dryer - and drying me!

Cleared of projects from my desk, this evening I got word of two more. One small, one large - and the small one could become a larger one later on.
Dishes done, laundry done, paperwork done as far as I can go right now. At least - I think so.

I've cleared the top of the bookshelves in the living room of my stuff - but there isn't really space to clear more things into yet. Must start the sorting from my studio/office in order to get more actual space. And with this much nail polish, it may be time to find a new way to keep those bottles confined. We won't even talk about how much acrylic paint stuff I've collected.

Stuck in 1965-1969 for my music lists - those are the songs making me want to get up off my couch fortress (cleaned that too, by the way!) and do other things. Those truly are songs from my childhood. What is it about the early years of life and that music which makes me want to get up and dance around? Not the stuff from high school, the music from the days when I had just started elementary school, the music from my first AM/FM radio, the music from drives with parents to visit grandparents in other states? Why those years? Why not the years with the band? Why not the songs from senior year and prom? Why not the years just before my first child?  Who knows?

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
Yes, there's coffee in my hands at nearly 11 at night - and my day is beginning. I'll have to find quiet things to do so I don't scare my neighbors at this hour.

I believe the animals miss him.
That is the only reason I can come up with for their actions. Waking me at odd hours, burrowing under the covers on the bed to search for my hands to pet them (that's really NEW), following me around and mewling.

Honestly, creatures, the human in this house needs sleep.
But evidently only according to schedule of the animals.

Things are good. The housekeeper comes today, the laundry is done, the paperwork is in order, the sorting goes as slowly as I can manage and one big project is out the door and invoiced.
Sure, I'm tired. And definitely ready for the Bearded Guy to come home next week. But it's not been so bad that I've fallen apart.
Not yet.

And it's possible that I have missed what sunshine may have been here - with the way the animals are acting, I've been on a weird schedule again and sleeping during the day - did I miss the sun?

Greetings, 3 a.m., yet again we meet.
If the sleep interruptions continue, I will be forced to seek assistance from another source.
At least this time, it wasn't the animals. This time, it seems, it was my own body fussing at me.

Preparations continue for a longer upcoming trip for me. They also continue for welcoming home the Bearded Guy, whose longer-term Berlin Adventure ends in a little more than a week.
At that point, he'll come home and we'll debrief and reset.

I did not expect this trip to be so difficult for both of us. Though I did indeed understand some of the issues, I was neither aware of, nor prepared for, some of the more annoying things that came up.

All that said - it's been good. For both of us. And he will return soon.

I think my 5-25 is going to be put to heavy use today. Between paid work and some additional cleaning indoors, trying to stay away from outdoors where it's raining, breezy and cold, plus getting a few other just-for-fun things done around here, I'm already tired.
But it's 10 in the morning and time to get started.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
How difficult is it for you to start a day? The whole day - just get up and get going?

Way too early for a Sunday morning.
Played with some of the top coats over the ModelsOwnIt blue gel-type.

The Canon camera battery would recharge faster if I had plugged in the charger instead of just plugging in the battery to the charger. Silly person.

Been to a birthday party for the child of dear friends, started laundry, done dishes, remembered to shower and eat. But that's about all I've managed since coming home from London last week.
That trip, a slight cold and trying to be outdoors since getting back really kicked me.

I can not keep up with my own desires - barely keeping up with my own needs.

I did unpack the suitcase - but I have not yet put it away.
There's a computer bag that wants unpacking. I got out the important stuff and left the rest inside.

I shouldn't be confined to the couch from pain. But I am.
Paid work projects are getting done... in bits and pieces.
Honestly right now, it's more about keeping warm enough and trying to get sleep.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
With a hip that is being annoying, walking is a little hard.
What movements are you stuck on? What exercises do you do to make those muscles work?

I'm thinking maybe a pool....___

As I learn more and more about photography, I find myself more and more grateful for the digital cameras.
If I'd taken my photos with film, the blurs and photos from behind less-than-sparkling windows would have saddened me for wasted film.

Digital, however, means I can delete the garbage, remember those shots from being there and get on with more!

Next time, I will remember to pack the spare battery too.

Taken on tourist day - and with the Birthday Girl (my best friend here in Sweden) on her special day. Yes, I went up in the London Eye. And wandered around the Tower of London, took a boat trip on the Thames, rode double-decker buses.
These are the best shots of the day.

Beginning a trip without your passport isn't usually a good sign.
But all-in-all, it was a really good weekend.

London, you were lovely. Sunshine for 2 days out of 3, and the overcast/rainy day happened on our day for indoor things at museums.

A little shopping, a little touristy stuff, a little wandering, a little food, a little drink.
Yeah, but it's good to be home!

The photo? Okay, maybe more than a little shopping.  :D
That's the nail polish shopping.

The bottle in the middle? Anyone recognize that Louboutin?
That actually was a GIFT! From two friends I met with while in London, thank you so much, +Sarah Short and +Keely Gallagher  - I'm still nearly in tears for that.
Who has the photos of our nails in the wild?

The camera holds more than 500 shots of London all taken on the first day. It will be a day or two before I can sort through them.
How long does it take you to decide on your best 10 shots from a weekend trip?___

No stress today, please.
Paid work to be done. Empty, cleaned nails to polish - must do that, meeting other nail girls on Saturday! Trash to take out. Phone calls to be made. Must pack tonight, the train tomorrow is well before noon - because I'm delivering one more of the Bearded Guy's prints at noon.
And for tonight, I am seriously considering a bubble bath.
It's on the list - but the list is actually rather long and I got up late.

Last night, a cat decided to burrow under the covers, searching for my hand to pet him. More than once. Woken up several times by that particular beast, he also walked on me, padded the blankets where my body parts were, even licked me.
Is there something wrong with me and he's trying to let me know? Or is he just missing his scratching times from the Bearded Guy, who is in Berlin?

So the London trip is happening.
And since it's just me and my best friend here in Sweden who are going, us girls are going touristy.
Thames tour, Eye, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace...

However -
We are also getting an airport transfer on arrival, thanks to recommendations and easy booking with +247 Airport Transfer.
Would it be rude of us to take a photo of the driver holding the card with our names? Maybe with us?

:D

Since her birthday is Friday, Friday is all about my friend. Saturday is meetups with other Londoners and shopping day. Sunday is more touristy stuff - whatever we might have missed on Friday.
But seriously, has anyone ever been able to take that photo without being rude or weird? Or should I just have the camera ready?

A need exists to remove the nail polish.
However, in learning to package the art prints, I took a small chunk out of my thumb with the knife. It's not large, honestly, it barely bled. But it stung when it happened. A couple of days later and I'm still touchy about it.
There used to be this stuff called NuSkin. I could get it in the USA. Paint that over a sore and go about your business. But my last bottle of NuSkin was emptied a long time ago. Not even sure I can find it in Sweden.

One other thought today - the US and some other places have done their "Spring Forward" this morning... but we are waiting until the end of the month.
So while I am accustomed to a 6-hour time difference between me and calling the East Coast US, now we're at 5? or is it 7? and I don't know.
Plus, when can we give up this change of clocks, anyway?

It hasn't yet been a week of the Bearded Guy in Berlin, but I've still barely had time to be online!
So much to do around here.
At least I did manage to deliver one of the prints ... two more in process, a package to Berlin, planning a trip for me for next weekend, cleaning and stuff.

And even my little Moleskine hasn't seen all that much love. A paragraph or two now and then and that's it. I can barely manage to write in it once a day.
There simply isn't time yet.

What is it I do all day? Really? Wow, what a difference. While it's good to have the place all to myself and the animals, there's a definite hole in the couch where the Bearded Guy should be sitting.
Hmpf.
We'll see about this Berlin-without-me-thing and we may have to re-think this.

I'm awake. I've slept. Not fabulously, but there was sleep.

Out the window this early March morning? Snow. Again. Not my favorite way to wake up, that's for sure.

Just checking in for now - still need coffee and a morning of a few things to do before I brave the winter weather, leaving the confines of my couch fortress to continue proper caring for hearth and home.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
Does anyone have coffee ready yet? It looks like I'm getting my own for the next few weeks. Yeah, yeah, I know how, but it sure was nice to have someone else make it sometimes.

As part of our running around in Stockholm on Friday, I picked up my very first Moleskine. Now - the first sentence is very important. Even for the title of this book, the reason for this book means that I want to think through the first line before writing it.

As a way to keep my thoughts my own as the Berlin Adventure truly begins, but "John has left the building" is a bit cliché. And "The Berlin Project" is boring as a title.
It's more about my personal adjustment to being home with the animals and no husband for a while. Oh, since I evidently can't count, it's not 6 weeks, it's only 5 weeks and a day. And this is only Round One. The first of the steps that need to be taken.

I'm sending him to a family - to live in their spare room, to be part of daily Berlin life, to get his network started, to find the right place to live, etc.more »

Not the first wife to stay behind while the new city is checked out. Not the first one to leave the choice of home up to the husband. Won't be the last, either. And it's not the first time we've had extended time apart, either.

But this is the first time I'm considering a journal about it.

When I moved to Sweden, one of my parting gifts was a leather-bound notebook. It became my fuss book. Things that made me unhappy. I could write them down and put them aside. Personal bitch-fest.
I'm hoping this is more of a minor-daily-struggles type of journal. The small things I'll run across while here. The decisions of planning another six months minimum of being in this apartment while he sorts out things there. How to live comfortably while packing to move. That kind of thing.
Sure, G+ will hear parts of it. But some things just aren't for sharing.

And now I have a Moleskine to put those thoughts into.

Goodmorneve and Coffee, Giggleplus!
What is the perfect size of notebook for you? Fits in your hand? Better if it's smaller and fits in your pocket? Have you given up on actual writing and gone strictly to typing?
What was the first sentence in your journal? Did you make a big deal of it?___

Debriefing after the show, the travel... some sleeeeeeeeeeeeeep.
We are home, the suitcases are unpacked, but now we have to repack his cases because he leaves for Berlin on Monday.
So - how did it go?
Well, 2 pieces pre-show. And a 4-piece request pre-show.
8 pieces at the show, plus a 3-piece request still in process and 1 on hold as a maybe and 1 that's being put aside for a special possible gift.
Not a sell out. Not a total wash. He did good.
But as we all know, this was education. How much money was spent to put this show on? How much still needs to be spent to get the sold pieces to their new owners? Who is going to do the shipping? And are we waiting until April for that, so the extra pieces can be ordered and prepared first or should most of these go out this week?

Ah, the joys of art.

Below - the middle hall of the 3-part location we booked for the show. A single large room, a middle hall and a bar area. That's the artist, trying to photo me while I'm trying to photo him.  hahaha
Way in the back, you can just make out Addis - finishing folding the catalog sheets to hand out as people came in.
What I did not get to come out was the flashlights in use. It really worked very well to have the dim lighting and flashlights to allow the guests to get close to the prints, shine their lights and take a moment to really see. Sadly, my best shots of the evening were taken with a flash.
I'm still in training as a photographer.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
Do artists have agents? Managers? Those who take care of all the details, allowing the artist to create?
Do any of the G+ artists I have in my circles have such a person? Most of you talk about setting up for your own shows, getting a single piece into a regional show, getting your work added to a show of a dozen artists. Do any of you have a manager, agent, gallery owner - someone you trust to handle all the details? Can an artist ever truly be absent from the hanging, the show itself, the shipping afterward? ___

His two assistants (me and Addis) are as ready as we will get. There's still work to be done for hanging and then taking them back down and getting things shipped to new owners... but none of that can be dealt with until Thursday.

Today is to make sure we are ready personally - the professional side is finished. All the little details of staying in a different bed than your own.

Am I stressed? Yeah.
There are details upon details and each one is its own mess-maker.

Yes, I know those three are not straight. But I wanted that photo before we took them down... and then forgot to post it.
Who wants more coffee? Maybe some tea? And who is making my lunch today? I'm not really up for cooking!___

Tuesday? Really? Already?
Oh, boy.
Okay, well, today is prepping all the canvases for actual hanging. We have sets of triangle hooks to install on the back of all 20 - even though two of them (that's right, 2!) have been sold.

Our summer intern has returned from her university studies to be here and be part of this exhibition. We are so very happy to have her help with this.
And our tiny little credit card reader will help.
And our party cellar (the actual location) is ready for us.

So what's left? Half an hour of work on one file for me, then let The Bearded Guy do final proofing before we send it out.

Should probably do something with my nails. We'll see how much down time actually exists - I'd like to use my new stamping plates, but that's a bit of time and energy plus cleanup that I may not quite have right now.
And a shower. I need a shower. Like now. Hold that coffee for a few minutes, the shower comes first.

Hello, +iZettle  - we can now take credit cards.
See how little it is? I love that it's so tiny!

Of course, this does change the tax issues for the exhibition. Tax law in Sweden is quite interesting on this subject - but now that the payments have to go through the company for credit cards, we do indeed have a tax amount to deal with that is a different one than we were hoping for.
Ah, well.

Okay, I don't mind paying taxes. As long as they are MY taxes.

And in other news - One Print Has Sold!
Yes, the Bearded Guy who lives at my house has sold one print already. Congratulations, +John Thelin  - you are now a professional artist and this should settle your tummy a bit about the exhibition on Thursday.

Typing with freshly-painted nails. Not yet ready to art-them-up, they are a bit too fresh for more design work. Maybe in half an hour, maybe tomorrow.
Still looking forward to a bubble bath, but on the bright side - the workload is very much reduced!
Did manage to settle the majority of the stresses surrounding the upcoming exhibition for the Bearded Guy - though what's left is not something I can fix.

Artists, writers, musicians, other creatives - how do you get over the feeling of "What makes me think I'm good enough for this?" - how do you settle yourself into allowing the world to look at your creativity and choose whether or not to buy it?

Goodmorneve and coffee, Giggleplus!
With a truly screwy sleep schedule, I'm only mid-way through my day at this point. I have to sort this out by Wednesday.

It's officially Friday.
Not by much, it's only 1 in the morning, but it's Friday morning.

30 projects are down to 14 (yay!) and 7 of those are ready for the Bearded Guy to look over, make sure I've not messed things up too terribly bad.
1 is his. And only his. And I am not involved at all.
3 of them - 1 is started, 2 in line ...
And the last few are actually projects that are not even here yet. I know they are coming, but they have not yet reached our desk. So all-in-all, it's good. From 30  to this.
And that was done with children visiting overnight, plus regular things happening. So I'm thrilled!

Now - is it ever the wrong time for a bubble bath? I could really use one. And soak my nails and then do a manicure... but honestly, am I awake enough to paint these nails? Probably not....

No matter what, they need cleanup and a removal of this mess!

I've been lax about my nails. Partly due to the workload, partly due to an actual overload of new polishes and the sense of "must use everything right away". Partly due to a lack of creative interest.

Meh. Gotta get my groove back!

Goodmorneve and Coffee, yes - coffee at this hour! - Giggleplus!
Thankfully, I don't go out much in public. But I can't even look at this anymore for myself.
How messy do you allow yourself to get before mentally freaking out about it? Are you a "fresh and new every day", a "fresh and new every few hours" or a "it'll wait a day or two... or three" type of person?___

Do you dunk your Oreos?

I've taught the Pocket Viking - but I missed the shot of him with his whole hand in the glass.
So tonight, we taught Best Ever Big Sister about dunking Oreos in milk.

Some people, however, would prefer not to make quite that big of a mess.
She got a fork.
You know what? It works!

Tuesday afternoon...
Where is that album? Not as if I have a record player set up here, but I do think of "Days of Future Passed" any time the phrase "tuesday afternoon" hits my brain.

I've got work, I've got cleaning, and I've got nails to do.
They are currently a mess, but with a new set of pretty, shiny, groovy chromes to play with, I'm hoping for a chance to do actual art on them instead of just a fast paint-them-all-and-hope-for-the-best.

One of the things that has frustrated us for a few days is the cordless phone set. Purchased barely a year ago, they shouldn't be making odd noises and crashing (yes, like a computer crashes) upon use, but they are. A new set was ordered and is waiting for pickup. In the meantime, however, answering a telephone around here has become interesting.

Coffee, please?

I need to get back to work, there's a lot waiting. Not yet back up to 11 projects, but definitely on a "get this out of here!" mode today.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
My list is long, my day is starting late, but I'm still not feeling overwhelmed.
Much better today, thank you!

Did someone say it was Sunday?
Happy half-price chocolate day, everyone!

While i sit here and contemplate the couch fortress and the need to clear it because we are having an overnight guest tomorrow, I can't help but recall that just a few days ago, I guest-blogged on that very subject.

What Helena is accomplishing here probably applies to us all. Get rid of most of our stuff.

Today, however, even my own 5-25 is not taking over as quickly as it should.

I know what's working against me. Paid work. As a freelancer, I have to schedule my workload for pay against housework and friends and shopping and family time and creativity and play and, and, and...

As I sit here today, it's about getting some paid work off my desk so that I can prepare for a guest. No, I'm not seriously involved in the guest - that's actually the Bearded Guy's friend coming over. But the bedroom does need the linens changed and I still have a couch fortress to clear. Plus, while playing with new polish, I do have some fingernails to clean up and re-do. I'd also like another bubble bath tonight.
You see, the Bearded Guy and I went shopping on Saturday. A few things that we're searching for are not easily available in the "downtown" area of our little space, so we went to the big stores... a short bus ride, but a lot of walking. And the walking just kicked me into an inability to do much more than sit.

Spoons? I didn't have any left yesterday.
A lot of sleep, trying to ease the pain of so much walking around. There's definitely something wrong with my body, but the docs can't figure it out. Because I'm healthy, it's hard for them to see anything other than a suddenly (and still not going away) larger belly, a bit of extra weight and a lack of regular exercise. Well, that's because it's actually painful to exercise. When you feel as if bones are rubbing together, you tend to want to stop moving.

I will, however, manage this. I may not have left over spoons today, but I will get through it. Started a little later in the day, there are things that simply must get done, so once I finish the next mug of coffee, the list of requirements gets started.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
When the pain takes a day away from you, how do you restart yourself the next day? I know some of you have chronic pain and just getting out of bed can be an accomplishment. Today is not as bad, but it's sure not easy.

Wow - this really sounds bad.
I'm not as bad as this sounds. Truly. A little bit of pain (compared to yesterday), but my mind is in a good spot and I don't really feel as overwhelmed as this has come out. Just want to get started.___

Okay, +FedEx  - you have improved my mood.

(Normally, I would not tag the company since that's the base HQ, but thanks to +Greg Ryals  tagging them yesterday, it might be a plan.)
We got a call from the service center this morning with an apology and a time frame.
I was in email contact with the Swedish office and was assured that today, I am a priority for them.

Sorry it had to come to that, but thank you Max via email and Joachim at the service center and today's driver, Jacob, for your words of apology, your kindness in dealing with me and your ability to get my package to me today.

Yes, it's here!

Yes, it's only nail polish but that's not the point. The point is that FedEx delivery is back on my good list.  :)

At 12:40 today, we got a call from our FedEx driver, saying he'd be here in 20 minutes.

At 3:00 p.m., my husband called the guy back and asked the status because "My wife is all excited and she's jumping up and down". He said half an hour.

At 4... something p.m., the driver called and said he'd be 15 minutes...

at 5:30, my husband calls him and he apologizes but he's had the worst day and now my package won't be here until tomorrow.

Ummm... what?

I have been a delivery driver.
I know it's hard.
I know about horrendous roads, traffic backups and nearly-unlocatable recipients.

But I never called and promised a time, then just did not show up. The delivery, no matter how late at night, was made ON THAT DAY, especially if I have called the client for any reason.

I am not mad at the driver for his rough day. I am mad at the driver for not calling me back to state that "Unfortunately, I am terribly sorry, but I will NOT be able to deliver your package today."

Yes, I am here!
Far too early on a Wednesday morning, not enough coffee in me yet to say that I've started my day.

Monday was a total washout. Tuesday was much, much better. Today starts a bit on the early side, but with positive energy, rather than feeling like I've wasted a day on nothing at all.

To do today - find out what's taking an order of polish so long to get to me. Yes, I did that - I ordered more!
Paid work - finish one file, start another file and work on a third. Only three! Instead of 11 projects in the pipeline, we are down to 4 and one of those is all on the Bearded Guy's side of the table. Yay!
Normal household - laundry and dishes and food and pick-ups.

It's not a bad list for a day.

It's not a bad list for a day.

What's the photo about? Well, you see, Monday was really difficult. So in an attempt to improve my mood, late in the evening, I took a bubble bath and when the bubbles were all gone, I dropped in a purple "bath bomb" that had gold glitter in it. The candle heats the bottom of a glass dish holding melted wax scented in lavender and eucalyptus, the other two bottles are just there ... the point was the swirl of the tub water with colorful fun.

Even that was interrupted by a late evening phone call.
Ah, well.

Another bath evening is on my list of things I want to do. Try again, with another round of scented candle, bubbles or shimmers in the water and a book to read.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
Do you have a tub or just a shower? Do you get a chance to soak, have fun bubbles, a book, a candle? Does anyone remember "Calgon, take me away!"?

Coffee, please... this mug is empty.___

Between messing up my sleep schedule yet again and trying to get this work done and preparing for tiny overnight visitors tomorrow and keeping a fingernail from breaking off, I have barely had time to think.
So - no new photos.
I actually took new shots of my freshly-repainted head, and tossed them all out. I did not care for the look of the dark circles under my eyes, the weird color of the hair as seen under fluorescent lights (spelled it right today!) or the fact that the best shot came from the bathroom.  Nope.

And - another trip in the works with a friend for a city break weekend in London, if we can get the details and timing to come together.

No, there's nothing going on here.

Sometimes, you just have to play with new stuff.
Our little Pocket Viking has an Aunt S - and she sent me some Fuzzy Coat from Sally Hansen.

So of course, there's a moment to try that out on a pinky finger before starting today's list of things to do.

Of the original 11 things from the weekend, 4 have been delivered, 1 is in proofing, and the others are in-process.
It's not a bad run, actually.

I really should go out today and see if my local lamp store can possibly solve a florescent lamp problem... I have a magnifying lamp, but the replacement bulbs are out of stock from my original supplier. Maybe there's a rescue in there for me in another location?

With bad weather and generally not going out, do you go out anyway for that one item on your mind, or wait until you have a real shopping list?

A dozen new books on my Kindle.
11 paid projects in the works... OUCH! Some of those need to get off my desk today. I think I can clear two of them and possibly get halfway through a third.
An art desk to clear so I can paint some more. Right now, it's covered in nail polish art supplies.
Three new pieces of music to work on. Not new, just that I finally have them in PDF formats.
The bed linens need changing, the kitchen is this close to being finished, the living room is just a few items shy of looking great, the bathtub is calling my name again... but there are these videos and script pieces waiting for my attention.

I can't stay long today, Giggleplus! But I'm in need of one more coffee.

A Thursday afternoon musing:

Main round of paperwork done.
The next one starts soon enough!

Nails unpainted and repainted.

A video file completed and in proofing process. This one is hard. Documentaries are sometimes a little more difficult than your average television show - terminology can be specific, and trying to maintain the tone and feel of the background of the film is a little more difficult. But it's almost done now.

Two more video files waiting for me! Yay! But this does mean I have a working weekend ahead of me. It's okay, I am grateful for the paid work.

And there will be another arriving next week. At that point, I will have to turn down further work until I clear the desk.

It's a paperwork day. Yippee. (not) And yes, that is my desk in the photo.
Too early in the morning for shredding, though I do have some pages to shred.
One of the good things about the new accounting software is being able to enter missed invoices (How did I miss 10 invoices during the year?) and have them applied in their proper months. I never did figure that out in my previous software. That's actually quite nice. It means I do NOT have to re-enter the entire year.

And really, how did I miss 10 invoices? The entire months of January and September... plus scattered payments in July, November...
This is where I'm so happy to also have my personal spreadsheet of expected client payments. If it were not for that, I might have put the paperwork in without including those! That would be BAD.

As difficult as is can be to keep track of two (or three) programs and (it feels like) entering things three and four times in different places, I really believe that backup and cross-checks and above all - not relying on one program - is a better plan than just blindly doing data entry and hoping you did it right.

Would an accountant have noticed? Maybe. "Where are incoming payments for January? For September?" But an accountant may not have questioned a missed income for a small amount... scattered through the year. An accountant might have assumed that was personal money put into the business.

Goodmorneve and Coffee, Giggleplus!
This week is paperwork-heavy, bookkeeping-related and once again I am looking online for a better book or lesson grouping about doing the books for the company.
Do you do your own accounting? Are you an accountant? (I know I have a few of those here.) Do you know of online courses for such things?___

There is simply nothing funnier to a two-year-old than the sound of a fart on a tablet game.

Might have to take it away from him soon, he's far too happy to play this game... for a LONG time.

There's work and housework, there's music going on and general fun, but there's also a tablet.
Toca Boca games, y'all. Lots of fun for tiny folk, matching colors and shapes and making things happen and different noises. They are not super-cheap, but a few dollars to make a child laugh is worth it to me.

Yesterday, I put feathers on my thumbs. What a difference between the sticker feather and the hand-painted one. I would like my hands to stop shaking.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
The Pocket Viking has moved from the farting sound to the music maker. Yeah, I will live with this.
How much are you willing to let your toddlers play with tablets?

It is a bit difficult to work when the power goes out.
We've been rather lucky here and we don't lose power often - I don't think our average is even one time per year. But this early morning - 6AM - we can hear the snow plows outside and we happened to be sitting up when everything blinked and went dead.

Online? Well, I have a mini modem, after the last time we had internet issues.
Lights? Lots of flashlights in this house. Particularly right now, since we purchased 20 small ones for the upcoming exhibition.
Heat? Nope - that won't hold up for long. But generally, the rooms are warm enough, so I don't expect to freeze any time soon.
Cooking? We just ate. As in... just finished a few minutes ago. So no worries about food.
Coffee and tea? Oh, crap, now we have an issue.
Thankfully, there is a still a bit of coffee in my mug, plus a glass of water.... more »

It appears I will have to let clients know that we might have a few delays in deliveries... can't work on the video portions of projects without power. But only if it continues well into the day. Can still do some things....
How do you handle power outages? And does it affect your ability to work?___

I'm busy busy today again.
But it's good. Work and more work. And then some more work. And then yet another project.

I love my clients. Most of them, anyway.

Still deciding if and where to hang the triptych. I see it as more childlike than I would prefer my works to be. Ah, well.

In an attempt to do a pastel galaxy manicure, I ended up with something that was a bit more... surreal.
At least the glitter came out the way I wanted it to. Light and only barely there.
Still working on the use of sponges - I love the way it hit on the tip of my first finger, but not so much the middle of my pinky. I really have to spend more time practicing.

Speaking of which, the piano calls to me. After I do this project for tomorrow, I will sit down at the keyboard for at least half an hour. I have new sheet music ... okay, not NEW, just haven't looked at... more »

And all this in between everything else that must be done.

Where did my brain go?

Put some glitter on!
Black polish, silver glitter,  gold glitter - life is good.

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!
I'm waiting on some work, doing other work, and finishing yet more work. The triptych has been coated in sealant - now where does one find the patience to let things dry completely?

The housekeeper is here, so I am staying Out-Of-Her-Way! while she handles the areas that are hers. My couch fortress has become my refuge lately, while I work on ideas and chatter with children. It's collecting pieces, unfortunately.
That's actually my 3rd-in-line major project. I want the couch fortress reduced to minimal requirements.
But there are indeed two other things of importance before that. I plan to clear myself out of the living room and clear the Bearded Guy out of my studio (and into his).

For two people who buy what they want/need as often as possible, we really need to cut back and get rid of all the packaging of said purchases. He spent the better part of an hour today breaking down cardboard boxes and packaging up bags of plastics in preparation for a trip to the local recycling center. I have a bag of shredded paper that can go, plus a few more bags of bottles, cans and advertising paper that should be removed. I feel overrun - and I think that's what has been affecting us. We are happy enough, but stressed and the stress is the level of extra stuff that needs to go away.

One of the things I ordered was a dual USB drive. A regular USB A port on one side and a micro USB on the other. What was I thinking? I don't need this for file transfers because I keep so little on my phone or tablet that needs to be put on the computers. So why did I think this was a good idea?
Another item is the 14-slot USB hub! Now this... I have serious plans for this item. I know that two of my dongles prefer to be plugged in directly and prefer not to be in hubs... but everything else? On the hub!
I hope the printer will be happy with a hub plug. Even with 6 USB ports on the computer, there are never enough for all the little bits and pieces that must be plugged in - even temporarily.

Grandkids in hangouts.... one short story and then I'm back to other things. Last night, I got a phone call.  "Mormor, please start a hangout, Little D is banging on the computer and waving."
Yup, my grandson who is only a year old and does not actually speak as yet, has figured out how to ask for seeing me online.

Do (did) your tiny children have clear ways of asking for things?___

Mac users - and VoiceOver users, particularly ...

One of our G+ writers is having vision issues. They're serious. So in order to continue writing, she's on a Mac using VoiceOver. But there are some problems.

Can I get y'all to talk to +April Brown please, and give her some advice, maybe a few tips or tricks for this piece of software?

Thanks in advance, folks!

Yet again, the Bearded Guy Who Lives At My House is venturing into story-telling.

This is the third of his recent stories. This time, I know a bit about what's coming. He's been discussing the idea with me.
And for this one, rather than releasing the finished project, he's decided to ask for input before continuing.

Since I know I have several writers, several artists and several readers within even my daily readers... Would you be so kind, please? Take a look, leave your comments... on his post. I'm locking this one for commenting.

This will be looooong. Settle in or move on.

I'm going to share the beginning of a short story that just had to get out of my head this morning. It is based on a short scene in a TV series that I recently subtitled, plus a nightmare I had recently. The two suddenly conflated, and I had the opening scene and the general timeline of the story. The rest will have to come when/if it does.

If you take the time to read all of the below, I would appreciate any and all comments. Alright, here goes...

*****

I hear my name, and I know it's over. It's Iliana's voice, and she's behind me, not far away. A few meters at best. Sound carries in the snow-covered forest, but I still know that she is only a few arms' lengths behind me. I can almost feel her body heat burning my exposed neck between the peacoat and the black, rolled woolen cap on my head. I realize that I have tensed on hearing her, and I let my shoulders drop a bit, the rifle in my left hand rocking slightly as it descends a centimeter or two.

The blood stains on the snow in front of me are slowly eating away the smooth white surface,  dark, jagged rivulets creating little canyons down toward the hidden ground. There's a light steam rising off the newly-spilled blood in the cold. The deer I just shot twitches one last time, then goes as limp as I feel.

That shot, less than a minute ago, was probably what finally led Iliana to me. But if she hadn't come now, she'd surely have been waiting in the cabin as I returned with the deer carcass, covered in its blood. That would have somehow been a more apt scene, I guess.

But this works just as well; the killer caught with his prey.

For the briefest of moments, I think about just shooting her. The rifle still has two bullets in the magazine, and in the hip-deep snow, she wouldn't be able to run fast enough to get away. After all, it would be just another kill added to the list that began with Sarah Nolan only a few weeks ago. Even if Iliana was the one who first showed me that Sarah was an unrepentant child killer and in so doing, set these events rolling; even if this is all her fault, in a sense, I just can't bring myself to harm her.

And it's not that Iliana is innocent. Most of the people who breathed their last because of me these last few weeks were innocent. It's that Iliana actually knows. She's the last and only person who can explain why I have done these terrible things. And I need that. Not for an apologetic eulogy or an exculpatory death notice, but to hear it for myself.

She calls my name again, but this time it doesn't have the rising cadence of a question; she knows it's me. I sigh a puff of smoke, and drop the rifle, which is immediately swallowed up by the snow, hitting the ground underneath it with a muffled thump.

Then I turn around. Iliana is crying. I realize that I am too.

The alarm went off at 7:24 (7:15 plus 9 minutes snooze time), and I briefly considered not showering before going in to the school. But since I had a long day ahead of me and I shared an office with a lovely undergraduate that I somehow felt the need to impress, despite her being far too young for me and quite obviously not the least bit interested, I got myself under running water before 7:30.

I was in the faculty lounge by a little after eight, exuding an odd combination of mango/orchid shower gel and Kouros that made even me somewhat uneasy. No matter, at least it wasn't sweat/cardigan and sad middle-aged desperation, as would probably have been the guess of anyone seeing a photo of my shaggy apparition. By 8:15 I was in front of the first of my several Sociology classes of the day, explaining Anti-positivism (it was early in the semester).

At lunch, Joe Carter – history professor with absolutely no ability to draw even rudimentary conclusions from his voluminous knowledge – made me promise to go to an alumni fund raiser event in his stead. Before I could get him to make me a counter-promise - something along the lines of giving me his dessert at lunch for a week – he was off, once again predicting the fall of North Korea, without bothering to explain why it hadn't fallen the fifty previous times he had predicted that it would. So now I had promised to rub elbows with the rich and dim in order to fund the new school library, and all I was getting in return was an oft-recounted list of the many deficiencies of the Kim Il Sung government. It was beginning to feel like a Monday.

By around 3 PM, I was hunched over my desk, grading papers in my cramped office, an office which had not been graced with the presence of a lovely undergraduate all day. When I heard a noise by the door and looked up, I wasn't too disappointed not to see sultry undergrad there. Instead, chem lab assistant Iliana popped her head around the corner, asking if I too was going to that fundraiser on Friday evening - and for the first time since Carter had press-ganged me into going to that event, I was happy that I'd agreed; Iliana was good company at events like this: sarcastic, smart and irreverent.

Suddenly, Friday wasn't looking so bad.

Sarah Nolan was a debutante, 40 years ago. But she still carried herself with that unassailable certainty of greatness that seems to be almost exclusively the domain of either the very rich or of great athletes. She sat across from me at table 3, one of 20 large round tables seating eight, placed around the ballroom of the Grandine Forest Hyatt for the library fundraiser. She wasn't the life of the party; she didn't need to be. She was aloof, if glittery and bejeweled, only deliberately calling attention to herself when showing her bid paddle during the many auction sections of the evening.___Yet again, the Bearded Guy Who Lives At My House is venturing into story-telling.

Triptych is almost finished. It is my first-ever multi-canvas piece and also a brush test. What do these brushes do? What lines do they make? Do they hold up well under my mess-making?

It will be looked at once more and when I decide I'm done adding to it, a single coat of sealant added.

Hangouts lately have been gigglefests. With kids and grandkids, with G+ friends... giggles abound.

Work has arrived and I am thrilled with it! The plan now is to turn each piece of the project around as quickly as I can.

The press release for the flashlight exhibition is in the writing stages.

The planning for sending the Bearded Guy away for 6 weeks is in motion.

So right now, things are all moving along. But there are always little bits and pieces missing or delayed.

Still turned around sleep-wise so I'll head to the bed shortly. But before I go... How much delay in the "bits and pieces" can you tolerate?

We already know I don't wait well for shipments, and can stand a bit of disarray... but delays generally? Oy veh.___

New nail polishes, a 3-panel acrylic piece in progress, plus boxes to get cleared and stored away. My studio is in disarray and I don't like it.

But things are moving along. Part of the problem is a bunch of new supplies. Nail art supplies, acrylic supplies... But within that is also a set of boxes for sewing and two boxes of things that haven't even been sorted out yet.

Oy, veh.

I should stop creating and finish storing, perhaps?

Once again, my inner clock is turned around. I'm on ... Japan time lately, it seems.
How much of disarray do you allow in your creative areas before stopping everything to clear it all away?

Christmas plant - Amaryllis.
Seven (!) blooms.

Now, the problem. I can't get enough light on this thing to make it really show nicely. And adjusting levels in Photoshop makes the walls look orange.
They are not.
And the petals look brown-edged.
They are not.

Perhaps for next birthday/Christmas I ask for light?

Goodmorneve, Giggleplus!

Tack så mycket, Lelle - jag ska fråga Birgitta om bästa metoden för växt.
