This is a flagrant breach of my freedom of expression as a photographer but also if you’re just taking holiday snaps you want to post on Facebook or any other website.
How will this law be enforced practically when you take pictures? It’s impossible but when you take pictures of let’s say London’s skyline, you’re likely to be harassed by zealous security or police officers, especially when you take out your tripod. It’s simple, since no one is wearing a sign on his head indicating he’s a photographer with commercial purposes they will look for characteristics that give them reason to suspect you’re having commercial purposes. Of course that’s very likely when you have a tripod or something larger than an iPhone! And if you actually have commercial intentions or just want to avoid being harassed, then try finding the copyright holder of the buildings in your photo - good luck with that!
How will this law be enforced when publishing pictures of public buildings? You will face legal action if you post your London Skyline photo on your Facebook page or any other website and if you don’t have the prior approval of the copyright holders of the buildings.
Come on, have they all gone mad? So this is how my photos will look like in the future if useless bureaucracy gets their way: even blacker than usual.___

I was exhibiting my images from Auschwitz-Birkenau at the Dallas Holocaust Museum when I saw a frail woman in a wheelchair looking at my images. I went over and said "My name is Cole, these are my images."

She replied "These are MY images!"

Her name was Edith Molnar and she had been interned at Auschwitz-Birkenau, and remembered the scenes that I had depicted.

Flower Girl, 2003
In 2003 I had just returned to photography after a 30 year hiatus during which I built my career and raised five children. I had just purchased a 3.3 mp point and shoot digital camera and was attending my sister-in-law's wedding where my daughter was the flower girl.

Two things struck me about this image: first, that after 30 years my eye still gravitated to the dark and contrasty image and second I was surprised at how sharp a 3.3 mp image can be! I can blow this image up fairly large and it really holds together well.

Two Hippies, 1970
My high school political science class brought in an activist to speak and afterwards these two students engaged in an impassioned discussion with him. It was the height of the hippy era and Loara High School had it all: drugs, sex, rock and roll, long hair, political rhetoric, a contempt for the establishment and draft card burning.

The times were exciting, photography was exciting, life was exciting.

Old Building, 1971
This is another image from my teen years. I would spend hours and hours looking at the work of the great masters of photography and I was always drawn to the photos of old things. And so at age 17 I tried creating my own.

There was a small farm across the street from my high school and this building was on the property. I liked the contrast of the window, light, antlers and thermometer against the dark building. And for some reason the garden hose intrigued me.

Wooden Indian, 1970.
This was photographed on Disneyland's Main Street in front of the old time cartoon theater. My brother, sister and I all worked at Disneyland and so I had great access.

I still go to Disneyland every chance I get and I always stop at this wooden Indian and take a moment to relive those wonderful days.

I did a bit of street photography in my earlier years but never had a real talent for it and so I kept searching for what I was good at.

This is another image created at my high school. I barely graduated because I was always photographing instead of attending class. Photography was a dominant influence in my life.

Gull and Moon. I created this when I was 16 or 17 and it's two negatives sandwiched together.

I photographed the sea gull in the parking lot of my High School, Loara in Anaheim. The moon and clouds were shot at night in an empty field at Euclid and Katella. Then I sandwiched the two negatives in the enlarger and made the print.

The negatives were lost but around 2010 I found a single print and was able to recover and save this image. My original print did not look this good, the blacks were very muddy.

I am very partial to this image and I'm not sure if it's sentimentality or I genuinely like the image. Who can say?

Egg in Glass. I created this in 1968 when I was 14 years old. I jokingly call this my first fine art image.

This was created on my mother's prized dining room table and shot with a Kodak Pony 828 camera. Back then 828 film was a bit hard to come by and so I hand loaded the spools with 35mm film.

The camera would not normally focus this close and so I removed the lens stop, focused by using a piece of ground glass on the film plane and then measured the distance to the subject. Then I loaded the film, measured the distance again and took the shot.

Obstacles were never a problem for me, they simply caused me to become inventive.
