Gosh, I hate to keep on this train, but Twitter 2FA doesn't support trusted devices, either. You get to do the 2FA dance every single time you log in.
(I've now been waiting almost 2 minutes for my auth code.)

Twitter SMS-based 2FA makes Twitter accounts subject to DOS attacks. Codes are taking ~70 seconds to arrive right now for me. If I have your username and password, I can just keep logging in with them and having it generate new codes, which invalidates any previous codes. As long as I keep attempting to log in, you will be prevented from logging in since the latency to receive the SMS code is greater than the time it takes me to attempt another login.
Wow.

Oh, good grief. The 2FA options just showed up for me on Twitter.
You check the checkbox, and it sends you a text message. And then, rather than asking you to type in the message you received (you know, like any sane 2FA setup would do, to ensure it's working), it just asks you if you received the message. If you click "Yes", then it turns on 2FA. Without, you know, actually verifying that the user received a message.
People don't read dialog boxes. They're just going to click the blue button to get the popup out of the way. I expect there will be plenty of people who manage to lock themselves out of their accounts in the near future.
Literally every other 2FA activation everywhere goes something like this:
1. Set up verification
2. Enter the verification code that you see so we can be sure that what you have matches what we have

So Twitter's rolling out 2FA today, finally.
Except it's all SMS-based, so spear-phishers (like the Syrian Electronic Army, who have been directly targeting specific people and are responsible for many of the recent high-profile compromises) can still attack accounts via mobile number porting attacks, AND you won't be able to log in if you're outside of range of a cell tower. My office in my house is in a cell tower dead zone, so I'll have to actually leave my office to log into Twitter.
SMS support is great, and is really necessary for users who don't have smartphones handy, but I really can't figure out why they wouldn't add Google Authenticator support. TOTP is super simple to implement, already has existing infrastructure to support it, and a lot of people area already used to it.
Come on, Twitter. You guys have who-knows how much... more »

Guys. Amy's Baking Company grand re-opening is tonight.
I'm super excited. And maybe I might see if I can go up there and gawk at the trainwreck. I'm nearly completely positive that someone is going to be arrested tonight.

Because I have nothing better to do than check in.

+Cox Communications apparently decided that it was okay to start injecting ads into arbitrary webpages. I called them and griped at them - they turned the flag off, but if it ever happens again, I'm going to find a new provider.
I am not okay with companies monkeying with my webpages in transit.

Also, this was a sign for a conference that was not Google IO.
It made me glad that I was a geek rather than some poor suit trying desperately to figure out how to internets.

The Pixel is a really beautiful piece of hardware. If I can get a decent terminal and editor, I might be able to start using it as my primary portable dev machine.

If you're at Google IO, I'm demoing at the Mashable booth in the Google+ Sandbox today. Come by and say hi!

Okay, here's the fullsize pictures from today. Apparently I just needed to get out of the wifi deadzone that is the Moscone center.

Welp, this is easily the biggest trainwreck I've seen this month.
I'm half tempted to trundle on up there and take a look-see just to see if it's actually possible to smell the crazy.

I...is this a parody? Seriously, I don't even know what to make of this. I'm just kind of left blinking in a stunned daze.

You can tell how long a developer's been working by counting the rings in his coffee cup.

My new washing machine plays a victory fanfare when it finishes a load. It's horribly adorable.
I wonder if I can reprogram it to play the Final Fantasy battle victory theme.

I'm getting Google Adsense ads encouraging me to apply for a job at the NSA. I don't know if that's targeted or random but it's kind of spooky.
No pun intended.

More scorpion hunting tonight. We put down DE and are tying up loose water so we're hoping we can ward them off sooner rather than later.

Dusting the perimeter of my house with DE to ward off scorpions makes me feel like one of the Winchester brothers slinging salt.
