The most fun post every week on Google Developers Blog is the Fridaygram. http://googledevelopers.blogspot.com/2013/05/fridaygram-galapagos-images-smart-dog.html
That's where we feature odd and nerdy stuff that isn't necessarily related to writing code, but is cool anyway. Today's post is about Street View in the Galapagos, quantum entanglement, and a really smart dog. Eclectic!

A superb example of App Engine auto-scaling. ZoomZoomZen's anonymous, instant and ephemeral geolocation service has been used in a recent public meeting by more than 45000 people simultaneously.
App Engine weathered the traffic spike by spawning 20 instances, 6 of which were actually used, the remaining ones being allocated because App Engine was seeing a very quick traffic ramp up (10 to 800 queries per second within minutes). They were rapidly decommissioned as well.
All this happened automatically, with headroom for plenty more users.

Greetings Compute-rs,
We made quite a few exciting announcements at Google I/O last week. If you weren't able to join us for any of the sessions live or online we'll remind you that the full session track is still available on the I/O site. We think you'll be as excited about the announcements and the accompanying release as we are and we look forward to seeing what you build on the Google Cloud Platform.
As part of the release we are also happy to announce an accompanying API update, v1beta15. The new release lets you take advantage of many of the new GCE features described during our Google I/O presentations. To help you get started, feel free to review our transition guide, which describes all of our changes and how you can update any existing scripts and applications. For a detailed overview of the changes made to the API please review our release notes.
