As pointed out in the comments on my last entry, I do have lots of followers here, but there is very little for me to READ here. I go to Twitter to read what others say, and post when I'm on there.
There is not enough content driving me to come here. Some indie developers post some interesting stuff, but I usually have heard of most of it through other channels.

Did I give up on Google+? Not really.. I just don't really have a reason to come back here, and that means I don't get a chance to post anything.

Reworking the biome code. Interesting stuff. Will probably allow for rivers. :D

I started tracking my weight and eating habits. With some minor tweaks, I've started slowly losing weight! =D
It's funny how fast all the angst went away when I started just actually looking at the numbers.

I just did a phone survey about how much I liked this and that. The final question was "what is your monthly income?"
I feel dirty now.

(Disclaimer: I'm not an educated mathematician. Feel free to double check my results and tell me if I'm wrong)
So, to explain the lottery question and the very unintuitive answer..
Every time you don't win, someone else wins. The number of people who have won the lottery once will very quickly grow significantly larger than the number of people you are. Since they are more than you, the odds of one of them winning are higher than the odds of you winning, which means that there will eventually be at least one person who has won the lottery twice.
That person has the same chance of winning as you do, so each drawing, you both have a one-in-a-hundred-million chance of winning. If neither do, either someone who has never won will win, or someone who has won once will win, and there will suddenly be twice as many people who have won twice than you are.
Because of the... more »

Let's say we have a fair lottery where a hundred million people get one ticket each, and a winner is drawn at random each day. The winner stays in the pool even after winning. What are the odds that you win it once before someone else wins it three times (doesn't have to be in a row)?

Did we seriously max out the comment space in my last post? I wasn't even aware that was possible.. anyway, if the stuff in my last post doesn't work for you, reply in here with logs!

I need some help testing some new launcher tech I'm writing for Minecraft. If you want to help out, go here:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/MinecraftLaunchTest/test.html
You should get an applet with some text in it, then short thereafter a popup window that survives closing the web browser, and the popup window should say it has just over 1 GB ram allocated.
[edit:]
Thank you for your help!
Please include your OS, browser and other details that might matter in your reply! :D
[edit 2:]
There's a new version up, fixing one bug and outputting more information for the people it doesn't work for. It should say "2.0" in the title now. Paste the output in a reply if it doesn't work for you.

The worst part about breaking my MacBook is that I can't work on Minecraft this weekend.
It's also the best part.

Game design tip time!
1) Particles. Thousands of them.
2) Think about what rewards players get. Does the game implicitly encourage the player to do boring things? Don't.
3) I'm telling you, particles.

Mojang will be at PAX. We'll have the first playable version of the Adventure Update there, and it will be released to the public once we've adressed the feedback we get at PAX.
Yes, this is a marketing thing. ;) But also, we're doing some pretty bold changes to the game, and knowing we have the time to just play around with features we might now want to release is pretty liberating. Combat in 1.8, for example, is already way more fun than in 1.7, but it need further tweaking.

Blocking with RMB while holding a weapon is totally useless unless enemies tell you when they're about to attack. So I'll guess we'll have to add attack animations for all hostile mobs!

There's a cool festival thing in Austin a few weeks before MineCon in Vegas. There's no way I could go there, back home, and back to the US that soon again without losing my sanity. But then I realized I don't need to be in any specific geographic location to work on Minecraft..
So I could go to the festival, do my little appearance, then travel the US for a couple of weeks, working from hotel rooms and Cafés, polishing up the final details in Minecraft, then go to Vegas in time for MineCon.
Crazy plan? Yes. Doable? Maybe!

Sometimes I wish Steve had joints. Some animations are very difficult to make at the moment. Then again, it adds to the humor.

We just released 1.7.3, fixing a few piston bugs. Who knew such a "minor" feature would have so many corner cases, eh? :D
Thankfully, we got a lot of testing help from the Bukkit team. Behind the scenes, we've been testing the "modding api" (which in reality is just the full source code behind a license saying you can only use it to make free stuff, and that everything you make based off that can only be playable by people who have bought Minecraft) with them, and it's going very well.
We need to do some website infrastructure to allow anyone to sign up, but things are progressing nicely.

I'm still not quite sure what kind of stuff to post on my public stream. On twitter, I can post almost anything, but Google+ seems a bit too "spammy" to just post anything. I can't keep up with the people I follow now, and that's just 40 people.

A really cool bunch of game developers took us drinking last night. We're hoping to be able to do awesome, modern business together. The plan now is to lock the business people in a room until they work out the numbers.

Dear Google+, I want to be able to have public circles that people can join. That way, I can post to the "wants to know about Minecraft" circle when I want to talk about Minecraft without having to invite every single fan out there manually.
Or let me tag posts.

So I added sprinting, just to try it out. Double tap forward to start running, like the fast jump move thing from Unreal, but it only works forwards, like sprinting in most modern FPS games. It felt slow and weird until I added a FOV change as well, but now it's fun and addictive. I feel like there needs to be a drawback to doing it, though, or you'll feel like you're wasting time when you're not sprinting.

I'd better share something fun: (not final)
