"Guardian Of Light"
Before I run out the door for a doctor appointment, I thought I would share this image with you all. Photographed at Red Rocks Park, this tree has always had me fascinated and I have always wanted to capture it in good light. I finally got my chance with light that was so alive and brilliant, I actually had to pull back the saturation a great deal in Lightroom. You have to love good golden hour sunlight.
I think this image is also rather personal for me, it represents a lot of what I have been going through lately, I haven't really spoken about it publicly and maybe in times I will but it represents strength and how all alone it feels, facing the odds and standing tall. I hope you all like it.

"Colors Of A Spring June"
A couple mornings ago I decided to head over to Red Rocks Park (the home of the world famous amphitheater) as it has been awhile since my last visit. I got there in time for sunrise and I was completely wowed by how green everything was. Absolutely lush and backed up by the rock formations it resembled something out of the Jurassic era. The sky had some wonderful color about it with deep blues and pinks which really made for a nice contrast. It was simply a gorgeous morning!

Want to read something funny? Old art business models vs. new
Dive on in to this--- http://www.redbubble.com/people/kkart/journal/10406144-so-ive-been-thinking-the-case-for-larger-images-on-redbubble and have fun reading that and the comments contained within. They are fine artists so ya all know and yes, I firmly believe that larger images drive sales of prints and I will stand by that statement. What alarms me though is how obsessive people are at times with fears of infringement, it's almost OCD in a sense. I mean when you are so scared that you are uploading images which are effectively 250px on the longest side, commons sense stands to reason that you are only hurting yourself from potential sales. make sense?

The first real freeware alternative to Photoshop?
Not counting Gimp here but I just happened upon this piece of software which seems like it may be just that. It even has somewhat of a "Bridge" feature. Comes in both Mac and Windows flavors, the toolbar reminds me of Photoshop circa version 4. Not glitzy but functional. Looks like it even has actions, supports RAW in many cameras along with DNG, has ICC management....this has my attention!

Anyone license with Getty through flickr? - Thoughts?
I am going to have to think long and hard about this. It's sort of funny, a few of those images are really old. I don't use flickr much but have recently started uploading more images there since they re-did the whole site without limits. 2 of the photos, the Elk and the Fox kit are already licensed out with Alamy so those are no go. Anyone use license with Getty through flickr? What are your experiences?

"I See You"
Western Kingbirds are one of my favorite birds, I am glad that they are finally back here in Colorado. They signal spring is officially here and summer isn't far away. They also are not that flighty and can make great subjects to photograph so when I saw this guy perching in the sunlight yesterday morning I knew right away I had to get him. They are so colorful...I love the bright yellow that they exhibit, it stands out so much and is very eye catching. Photographed using my Sony A550, Sigma 170-500mm lens and a Puffin pad.

"Serenade Of A Spring Sky"
This was quite the scene, rain clouds clashing with the colors of sunrise over Lake Ladora at Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR in Colorado. I really didn't expect this shot to come out, was just very hard to take & try to compose it in a manner I was happy with. In the end though I am a happy camper!

"The Calm"
Photographed in the early morning at Sloan’s Lake in Denver, Colorado. There was something about this scene, absolutely stillness in a before dawn glow as the moon was setting over the front range foothills. It was so quiet I could have heard a pin drop and I loved every minute of it! Backed up by a Fotodiox ND 8, Grad ND and CPL on my Sony A550, I wanted a composition which showed part of the pier which I felt worked well in breaking up the lines within the scene. I hope you all like it as much as I do!

"No My Son You Can't Go!"
~feel free to share it, thank you!~
Springtime in Colorado. Know what that means? Babies of all kinds of wildlife all over the dang place! I honestly was laughing when I was photographing this mother Black-tailed Prairie dog and she interacted with one of her young. It was hysterical watching this as the baby kept tugging on her arm and shoulder as if it to "can I go too, Mom", and she kept shrugging him off. It was as if she was saying "not until you finish your homework!" This is one of the things I absolutely love being to watch, observe and photograph when it comes to wildlife, the interaction. really fun stuff!

Google+ Update: Feature - Album Ordering!
So far this may be my favorite feature yet (granted, I am just getting started on the new UI). To get to it:
- Open any album in your Photos->Albums page
- Select 'Organize'
- Drag the images into the order you wish them to appear (you can also have them order for you by date or name... or even reverse the order)
- Press Done (you may have to refresh the Album view to se your new order)
Voila! Now anyone viewing your album (includes slideshow), wil see it in the new order!

"Bath Time"
Spring in Colorado....love it! Finally things are starting to green up here. I got to spend awhile with this Cottontail who let me into his world for quite some time. Usually I don't photograph Rabbitt's but when the light is good and you have a very cooperative subject, why not, right? Needless to say I came away with a lot more images than I had planned too lol Such a cute little guy, got this one as he was preening himself. I just wanted to run up to him and hug him!

"Awaiting Spring"
A couple days ago we had a pretty awesome spring snowstorm here in Colorado. I know a lot of photographers avoid this sort of thing with heavy wet snow but I love being able to photograph in it having found that often times it adds an atmosphere that I wouldn't otherwise be able to get with my camera. It can also lend itself to some very creative images too. I really just liked the feeling this whole scene had, something about it with it's heavy mood just got my attention.

What's up my fellow photographers!?
Did everyone have a good weekend? I hope! Well here is what's happening in my world, what's up in yours??
Why I love facebook!- I know, around here that facebook is a dirty word but I will be honest, I like it, a lot. One of the reasons I do is because of things like this---The Ubited States Fish & Wildlife Service yesterday used one of my images to promote the refuge system in the United States. I originally shared the photo on their wall a couple of months ago from my photography page https://www.facebook.com/jdebordphotography . This to me is what makes facebook so unique when compared to anywhere else and as such it has driven a lot of people to my facebook site who aren't fellow photographers but people who have a genuine love for my photography. Know what that equals? Clients. It was pretty unexpected though as it... more »

My contribution to the crazy Colorado weather & snow photos.
A man carries a red shovel in route to help others clean out after the recent snowstorm in Denver, Colorado.
It's kind of funny, I am not really known for taking these sorts of photographs but I do and I do quite often, I just don't share them often and maybe it's time I start perhaps? I just loved this whole scene, something about that dang red shovel and how it all just spoke of the moment ...

"Painted In Pastels"
Thoughts--- Now & then I am really happy I am a photographer because I get to see and witness so many things that people are either take for granted or never get a chance to really see, so many beautiful things. I imagine most in metro Denver haven't any idea that Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR even exists or if they do, they have no interest in going there. I'm not sure what to think about that other than I can't imagine doing that myself for this place has become my little haven for tranquility. Listening to the Coyote's sing while watching and a photographing the sunrise over Lake Ladora? I am all about it....

"Skies Of Content"
Thoughts--- A few days ago I headed out to Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR here in Denver to catch the sunrise and do some wildlife photography. I froze my keester off taking this photograph, big time. I couldn't help it though, the sky had me captivated with how the sun was shrouded behind the clouds and giving off this hot pink glow. It's kind of funny, as I photographed this I got to thinking about how content I felt at the time and just how relaxed I felt to be able to watch the scene unfold. I did get a little frustrated though, the light and dynamics of the scene were changing so rapidly that I was unable to keep up since I was shooting long exposures. It happens I guess but I came away with a handful of shots which I am really happy with.

Just a heads up tonight on USA network at 10pm EST--Photographers this is for YOU!
A new show premiers tonight on USA channel called "The Moment" hosted by Kurt Warner in which people get a second chance at their dream. Tonight is a photographer who gave up her dream of being a photographer because she never got a shot at it--working for Sports Illustrated. Tonight, she gets her second chance. This should be pretty cool to watch!

"Last Tree Standing"
Thoughts & this is going to be deep--- Although I didn't really say this when I posted this image on facebook, this is rather a personal piece to me and yes I photographed it with the intent of showing it's conceptual side about it. It's rather hard to explain but many times I feel lost as a photographer, in a sea surrounded by people who do the same thing as I do and how so many seem to have broken through with their images while I struggle each and every single day. It gets frustrating, so very frustrating to see happen all around you and at times I honestly just want to throw all my equipment to the ground, my hands in the air, call it a day and say "I give up". I'm not going to lie and say it's easy because you know what? It's hard as hell. Now I am not wanting this to come across as some sort of pity party but at... more »

How to get a photo thats only been published in a public post to a public album and keep the +1s and comments. Of course this is documented everywhere else so this is just for you my friend who has not yet mastered this :-). And for me who tends to forget.....
If your post is to a community only you have to make a decision what is most important, getting the comments and +1 with you. Then you can follow this.
Or people beeing able to comment on your photos in the album without beeing members of the community. Then look below for how I do it.
Prepare by making the Albums you will move to. I do not know any other way than uploading a dummy photo. Which I don't publish.
Then when the album is ready:

"The Hangman's Tree"
Thoughts--- A few nights ago I headed up to St Vrain State Park outside of Longmont, Colorado to see how things were progressing. This is a place which I consider a seasonal park and I basically avoid it completely during winter as there isn't much of anything here to photograph then. It seems I was a tad early by a few weeks but I did manage to get a few bird photos and was gifted a great sunset. This was photographed using my cameras ability to shoot HDR backed up by only a Grad ND. For processing I opted to do something which I haven't done in a very long time (years really) and that is to give it a dark look and feel. It's a style which I no longer really work in and have progressed away from. Basically the image is exposed correctly and then darkened in Lightroom with selective dodging to bring out highlights. I figured though it would... more »

"Kisser Of The Clouds"
An Autumn sunrise above Lake Estes in Estes Park, Colorado bathes Twin Owls Peak in color and light. It was an absolutely incredible morning with the fog blending into the clouds and a blanket of color. While photographing this scene I kept thinking of the people who own the house on the left were awake and if they knew what was happening outside their windows. I also wonder if they know how lucky they have it to have a view of heaven, my guess is yes they do. Only 6 more months until Fall is here again and I for one can not wait!

"Sunrise Over Lake Ladora"
Located at Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge, Lake Ladora comes alive with the light & colors of the morning sunrise. As many times I have been out here, I wasn't aware that this area even existed with this vantage point and needless to say I now have a little favorite spot to kick back and watch the sky from now on, let alone photograph it. Heck, they even have a park bench set up so you can relax and drink your coffee while taking it all in. Sometimes it really pays off being a photographer. What a way to start the morning and the day!

I haven't been especially active on G+ for quite a few months, health issues and all that sorta fun jazz and my time has been spent out in the field photographing. I am quite lost on how we upload to communities in general. I see no way to share an image which I uploaded already to a community, so do I have to repost it directly to a community all together or what???
Thanks all.

"Surrounded In Color"
It's hard to believe that I've reached the half way point until Fall is officially here once again in Colorado. I have a lot planned for this Autumn and I am hoping to make a lot of it become a reality, we'll see. This was photographed along Guanella Pass road before sunrise. I have always loved this spot with how Geneva Creek winds through the Aspen trees....it's beautiful! It's sort of funny but when I think of Fall in Colorado, I always see this location in my head....I guess it's my personal little spot of peace & tranquility in the world.

Stupid photographers...
When I see things like this it gets me upset and it gets me upset even more so when I find out that it's fellow photographers not respecting the national treasures of a country and our planet by breaking the law to get a shot. Sad. Shame on them! Jackwagons.

Well I have debated long and hard and I think I am going to pull the trigger on a flickr pro account. I debated about 500px but honestly the whole voting troll thing just absolutely turns me off. I like that I can export straight out from Zenfolio who hosts my website as well so that makes life pretty easy. I like the relaxed atmosphere on there and the ease of things.
Just my 2¢ this early Monday morning.
