Tip :
Sometimes the best shots are done totally spontaneous. No lighting, nothing planned just a captured moment.

Always remember there is a time for planned and staged shoots but always keep your eyes open for that wonderful moment right in front of you.

Or as many have said "it's so incredibly difficult to take a shot when you don't have a camera with you"

Because we all love discounts...

You all know I love analogue photography.
One of the most important things is scanning to get the files into the computer.

If you use the software that is delivered with your scanner you probably think you get a good quality... but trust me it can be a LOT better.

A few years ago I switched to Silverfast and I was literally was stunned by the quality I got from the software, there was more dynamic range, much more detail and the colors... well totally different.

So if you're scanning and want the best quality, check out http://www.silverfast.com and download their software.

Now if you use the code SFdoorhof you will actually get a cool 20% off.

Who has some good tips for our stay in San Francisco. We know china town but would love more places like that. We have a car.

Also we will be driving from SF to Las Vegas and have three road days for this. Any suggestions involving Route 66 would be awesome. Not the super touristy stuff as usual.

Nice shot by Christa
Captures the mood during one of my workshops.

While the group is shooting we often have small groups together going over the material that needs a bit more explanation. Not a wasted minute during the workshops is my motto.

The students shooting are of course assisted by Annewiek or assistants.

I strongly believe in a 1:1 feeling during my workshops and this image actually captures that very well. Thx Christa ;)

For more info check www.photography-workshops.eu or www.frankdoorhof.com

Tip:
Leading lines have been a major part of photography and painting (and design etc) forever.

Find the lines in your scene and use them to strengthen the attention to your model.

In this shot the model (nadine) is a small part of the scene so there is chance she will not get all the attention of the viewer. By leading the eye of the viewer towards her by a strong leading line you make sure the image shows the viewer what you want.

So always look for these lines to really let your model pop out.

For much more tips on modelphotography check out my book "mastering the model shoot" or visit www.fankdoorhof.com for downloadable videos and workshop info ;) You can also find my classes on kelbyone.

Just a few days left to register for my workshop in San Fransisco on August 7th.

I'll also be teaching a seminar on the 6th.

Head over to http://www.frankdoorhof.com/site/2015/07/workshop-and-seminar-in-san-francisco/ for more information and registration.

It's a small group workshop so there is a lot or room for questions and personal attention.

Weird excuse 2 (wait for the second answer):
I don't shoot RAW because it's so much work later in the postprocessing....

My answer :
this is something that has been somehow stuck in peoples mind from the past... in todays workflow (trust me on this one) working in RAW is actually much faster than JPG.

You can (when importing) actually assign a profile, settings etc. to your shots and they will all look that way, but you can always change them with the "power of RAW"

Answer :
But if I assign a profile and look to my RAW, won't they all look the same? I don't want that, I have this JPG setting that I use and that is something I want on all my images.

..........ok

Weird excuse 1:
I don't use a light meter because I overexpose all my photos with 0.5 stops to give them that nice look....

My answer : how do you know how to overexpose by 0.5 stops if you don't meter them.......

We normally don’t really go for the touristy stuff but…. this time we did make an exception and visited the Viking market. Today some of the shots I took there. The problem for me is that I don’t want the “touristy” images with people in the shot, I would…
