The Ross's Gull Rhodostethia rosea photographed near Gdańsk, Poland yesterday. It's the second appearance of this gull in Poland. The first one was recorded 18 years ago.

MacOS Lion ColorSync Issue.

My MacOS applies the wide-gammut monitor profile (instead of sRGB) to untagged color . I have no idea how to change it, could anybody help me?

Sorry for being so silent lately. Some things kept me busy and I didn't have time to process or shoot photos. Anyway, I'm flying to Lanzarote and Fuerteventura of Canary Islands on Sunday and hoping to bring something worth posting.

BTW, any tips from whoever have been there? Places to see, locations for nice photos (not only wildlife), some good restaurants? I would be much obliged.

How to get more space on Dropbox for free

Dropbox is still the most widely used shared folder. It's stable, fast and "just works". There are many alternatives, but, unlike others, it is used by many apps to synchronise or backup data. Here's how to get much more than default 2GB for free.

If you already use Dropbox, skip to number 3.
1. Use referral link: http://db.tt/376AqahD - we'll both get additional 250MB.
2. Make an account and login on the website.
3. Click on Get started page and make the steps there for +250MB.
4. Go to https://www.dropbox.com/free and make the steps there (connect to twitter, facebook etc.) for up to 768MB.

Zelmer Pelikan Law

T(t) - temperature (Celsius) after t seconds, V - amount of water in litres.

Zelmer Pelikan kettle with open lid and the filter taken out. Room temperature 22ºC.

It didn't fit the theory (Newton's law of cooling) well, so after some curve fittings I produced the equation, which is quite precise (at least in 100ºC-50ºC range). It's the addition to https://plus.google.com/104042965789095032304/posts/d4P97HYkwCa post.

How to have a precise clock on your PC/Mac/iPhone

My short #howto about setting the clock to NTP servers. It could be useful for those who want exact time of the New Year :)

These methods are far better than standard time synchronisation included in the OS - 0.01 sec precision is possible.

PC
1. Download NTP for Windows from here: http://www.meinberg.de/english/sw/ntp.htm#ntp_nt_stable
2. Install it and use the installer to make initial configuration based on your location and preferences.
3. You can edit ntp.conf during the install to add other computers on your LAN that use NTP too - add peer <IP number> of any of such computers.
4. You can add broadcast and multicast commands too:
multicastclient 224.0.1.1
broadcast 224.0.1.1 ttl 4
broadcastclient 192.168.0.255
broadcast 192.168.0.255 ttl 4

Bird of a Day No. 1 - Redwing

I'll start a new series. One of my bird photos each (almost) day.

Redwing Turdus iliacus first. Photo taken last January in Gdańsk, Poland during severe frost.

Redwings aren't that common in Poland and appear mainly during winters. They breed very rarely here. They are the smallest of Polish thrushes, but probably the best looking :)

Making green tea using Google Chrome

Well, not exactly, but sort of :)
Here's my new method of making green tea that tastes good (for me at least):
1. Download a little Timer addon (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/hepmlgghomccjinhcnkkikjpgkjibglj).
2. Boil some water (stop it as soon as it starts to boil).
3. Open your kettle.
4. Start 15min countdown using the addon.
5. Pour the water over the green tea leaves (I use French Press for this, anyway the leaves could be used twice or thrice, so they should be separated).
6. Start 4min countdown using the addon.
7. Separate the leaves and drink. It will be OK to drink at once.

Repeat 2-7 if you need another cup. Don't throw the leaves after first time, actually the second time should be the best.

Of course these 15 and 4 minute countdowns are not exact and really... more »

An easy way to find people who left Google+

I found this method while managing my Wildlife Photographers circle. You don't need any addon for this. Click the share button anywhere. Do not write anything, just start adding every named circle you have (not "aggregates" like Public, Your Circles etc.). If there are people who are not yet on Google+ or just left it, you will have "Also email x people not yet using Google+" at the bottom. Just click on "x people" there and note or copy the names somewhere. Then enter those names into "Type a name" form in your circles (https://plus.google.com/circles) and you can remove them from your circles.
