A picture of a painter painting a painting of a painting of a painter painting a painting
Note the illusion that the painter in the painting of the painting is painting a painting of the painter of the painting of the painting, which is impossible.
However it is possible that the painter in the painting the painter is painting a painting of is painting a painting of the painter of the painting of the painter painting.
Sent to me by a co-worker.

[The Yankees have] used four different shortstops, and four different third basemen, and their starting first baseman is only there because the three options the Yankees brought to spring training didn’t work out.

This is what linguistics was invented for: so we could give precise phonetic descriptions of those rude sounds adolescents make.

“The Oxford English Dictionary accepts both pronunciations,” Mr. Wilhite said. “They are wrong. It is a soft ‘G,’ pronounced ‘jif.’ End of story.”

Hubble eXtreme Deep Field.

This sort of image blows me away. Five thousand galaxies from a tiny little patch of sky.
Hubble pointed at a tiny patch of southern sky in repeat visits (made over the past decade) for a total of 50 days, with a total exposure time of 2 million seconds.

How the price of paint is set in the hearts of dying stars
Today I’m going to try to explain the real reason that barns are painted red: nuclear fusion. And yes, this is an excuse to take a mad ride around some of the stranger corners of physics and chemistry in order to give you the real, this-is-not-BS, answer to a simple question.
This question got stuck in my head as a result of an episode of a long-forgotten sitcom called Head of the Class, about a high school class full of smart kids. (Sort of like Welcome Back, Kotter in reverse) This being an American show, it’s obligatory to occasionally emphasize the superiority of the ordinary virtue of “plain folk,” so in one episode the protagonists face off in some kind of academic contest with kids from a rural school, and end up losing because their city-slicker knowledge can’t answer the question “why are barns red?” (And ... more »

The mayor of my city, ladies and gentlemen!
There's an election a week from tomorrow. I can't fathom he'd win, but then I couldn't fathom he'd get re-elected the last time either.

What a boring article this is. The author didn't need to get off the internet, he needed a swift kick in the shins.

Due to a copy-paste accident in iTunes a few years ago, some of my MP3s have ... incorrect album art.
