+David Cobb's image has been awarded 2nd place in the 2013 International Garden Photographer of the Year. This excellent slide show put together by the BBC features an amazing selection of the top images. David's photo appears at 1:57. Oregon did well with Dennis Frates taking the top award with his image of Crater Lake.

The Iconic Watchman
I was feeling nostalgic about our Utah trip last November so I decided to sift through my images from that trip. I can't believe I had forgotten about this one! We decided to get this iconic shot out of the way on our first evening in Zion so we went downstream from the bridge and hung out even though it was blustery and overcast. The clouds parted for a moment of epic light. If you haven't had the chance to check out Zion in the fall...GO!

Winter creeps into being while other seasons officially arrive. The ice fingers of winter encircled these recently fallen aspen leaves one morning in Rocky Mountain National Park. It had not officially snowed that night, but the frost was noticeably thick. Fall seemed to have just begun, but this morning was a reminder that winter is quickly approaching.

It's FALL!! Okay, not according to the calendar, but according to all other things, autumn has arrived in Colorado.
For #macromonday here is my "Root Beer Float" What an odd name for a photograph of an aspen leaf, right? When I worked at a dude ranch, the wranglers used to tell the city folk that aspen leaves tasted like root beer to see if they would eat them. And they did! The background color looks like a root beer soda, so it seemed to fit.

This is an update to the 1st circle of inspiring photographers that I shared earlier this year. I have removed a few individuals that no longer were active on the network and added a few new faces. A couple weeks ago Colorado was full of smoky haze from the Pacific Northwest fires. We headed east for sunrise hoping to see that fiery red sun we had seen from home the previous days, but halfway to Pawnee Buttes it started raining...hard. The much-needed rain washed away our haze and we were blessed with a beautiful sunrise nonetheless!

A reminder that the Louisville National Juried Photography show begins this weekend! I will be at the artist's reception on Saturday from 7-9pm. I have two large pieces on display and 10 smaller matted prints for sale as well. The show will be up until July 8th. The Denver Post is calling this a 'Don't miss event' so I hope to see you there!

Calla Black and White
This beautiful calla was so beautifully shaped and positioned in a flower box this spring. I do not normally do very much black & white, but this one seemed to work well to me. What do you think?
