A Greater Spotted Eagle

There is a tree close to home where a kingfisher can usually be seen watching the stream below for fish. It usually sits on a nice perch and so I go there almost everyday looking for it.

Today, when I reached the tree, I could hear the kingfisher calling out loud. It was not on its usual perch and looking for it, I saw a snake up in the tree.

The snake, about 5 ft. in length, was in its elements and was moving quite effortlessly in the branches. Two spotted owlets that had taken refuge in the tree for the day, flew off calling out loud in protest. When I reached the foot of the tree, I saw that the snake was also coming down it quite fast to meet me head on :)

A dose of Art

Been on g+ for so long and I hadn't circled +Arthur Morris !!

After watching his presentation on lenses for nature (at 
http://youtu.be/pas-GiB9jzo?t=1h35m51s), decided to try out the 2X TC at the lake near home. I had never bothered to use it since I lose AF on my 40D body with it.

A lot of work to get this right, but it was fun :)

An Indian Roller

From today morning.
I was at the lake again today looking for two Yellow Bitterns that have taken up residence in a reedbed.
No sign of the bitterns, but had some good time with the rollers and jacanas.

As I have been recently editing all of my older trips, I keep finding surprising gems like this image from my last scuba diving trip to Hornby Island, BC in January 2009. If you are a diver you absolutely need to plan a trip to dive with the Steller sea lions at Hornby Island. They are incredibly curious and playful underwater. Many people who are familiar with my work might recall that another one of my Steller sea lion images was awarded 2nd Place in the Underwater category in the 2010 ICPA. Anyway, here is another cute sea lion admiring its reflection on the front of my dome port. I created this image using my Canon 5D and 17-40mm f4 lens in my old Ikelite 5DmkII housing with 8″ dome port and using dual DS160 strobes. It is a single exposure which was mostly processed in Aperture 3.0. Photoshop CS5 was used for some minor adjustments and to clone out particles floating in the water.
