"There is one special case where using some nonfree software, and even urging others to use it, can be a positive thing. That's when the use of the nonfree software aims directly at putting an end to the use of that very same nonfree software."

Digital restrictions management (DRM) creates damaged goods that users cannot control or use freely. It requires users to give-up control of their computers and restricts access to digital data and media. Device manufacturers and corporate copyrights holders have already been massively infecting their products with user-hostile DRM. Tablets, mobile phones and other minicomputers are sold with numerous restrictions embedded that cripple users freedom. The proposal at table in W3C to put DRM into HTML goes even further. Fight it: use today's international Day against DRM to spread the word and make yourself heard!.

KDE's integrated development environment KDevelop has just reached version 4.5. In this new version you will find brand new integration for Unit Tests, so that you can easily run and debug them while working on your projects. Furthermore, you'll find an iteration of our New Class wizard, many changes regarding polishing the UI in different places, better support for C++ 11 features and some other things you'll find along the way. — #KDE #Linux #OpenSource #KDevelop

A handful of myths have become common defenses of the W3C’s plan for “Encrypted Media Extensions” (EME), a Digital Restrictions Management (DRM) scheme for HTML5, the next version of the markup language upon which the Web is built. These arguments obscure the threat this poses to a free and open web and why we must send a strong and clear message to the W3C and its member organizations, that DRM in HTML5 is a betrayal to all Web users and undermines the W3C’s self-stated mission to make the benefits of the Web “available to all people, whatever their hardware, software, network infrastructure, native language, culture, geographical location, or physical or mental ability.” The W3C exists to bring the vision of an undivided ‘One Web’ to its full potential, and DRM is antithetical to that goal.

Qt 5.1 Alpha is released. We at the +Qt Project define "alpha" as the first (source-only) release after the feature freeze. It means all the features developed in the cycle are documented and do work as they were intended. But we're asking for reviews and feedback on the new API.
New features in 5.1:
* preliminary Android and iOS support
* introduction of Qt Quick Controls, Qt X11 Extras and Qt Serial Port
* re-introduction of Qt Sensors
* more: http://qt-project.org/wiki/New-Features-in-Qt-5.1

Version 0.9.6 of free and opensource video editor Kdenlive adds a Reverse clip option to Clip Jobs that creates a backwards clip.The list of audio / video bitrates can now be customized in custom rendering profiles. Version 0.9.6 also fixes several bugs and crashes, including a very annoying bug that caused project files to seem corrupted. — #KDE #Linux #OpenSource
