The Father Chronicles

Often times we do not realize who or what our fathers are until we are grown ourselves. When we are children growing up they are often larger than life for better or worse.

So for me it is not enough to say “Happy Father's Day” and be done with it. We have the obligatory visit and perhaps a special dinner to focus on this special day in a journey that was either at the forefront or in the background of his employment, hobbies, sports and his love for a mother (his spouse).

At the age of 70 I have raised five children and now know how much work and devotion it took. My spouse and I did it our way. (One of my favorite Frank Sinatra songs)

I can now recognize the foundations of my dad's strengths and imperfection by my own.

The most outstanding statement he left me with, “Keep the family together' as he wasdying.... more »
