65% of all learners are visual learners. 1/3 to 1/2 of the brain is devoted to processing the visual. But when our various teaching and training systems try and teach visually they do so based on an underlying flawed paradigm or belief. This short video shows what that flawed concept is and what to do about it.

The Connected Company just got a 10 out of 10 rating from the British Computer Society. Woohoo!

"Some books are great to read from start to finish, with tons of stuff to enjoy, learn or be amazed by, but perhaps not always in the same package. However, this is one those books that has it all, and it was a real delight to read from start to finish."

I am working on a card deck to help people recognize aspects of their company culture. I could really use your help. All I need from you is to write one or two short descriptions of your company culture, the way you would describe it to a friend. PowerPoint template provided. More info here:

Social Business Design, part 14: Dear Prudence

1. What is it?
2. What's in it for me?
If a company wants to go social, the "me" needs to be gradually changed into, what's in it for "us".

5. How do we know if we're playing well?

Is there a correlation between tax rates and GDP?

With all the debate and conversation around US income tax rates, I thought I would look and see if there's any kind of correlation between real GDP (Gross Domestic Product, adjusted for inflation) and the upper and lower income tax brackets.

I'm not a statistical analyst, but I'd like to make a few observations.

1. It's a bit early to tell, but it looks like the growth rate may be starting to flatten.
2. Overall, GDP seems to rise no matter what we do with tax rates.
3. The GDP growth rate increased for every period where there was substantially no change in tax rates.

Maybe people like stability?

Some questions about distributed work teams

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how teams collaborate over great distances. More and more teams are distributed these days, and I think this trend is likely to continue. There’s a lot of software that claims to support this kind of work, and some of the newer tools – like Google Hangout for example – seem to be great leaps forward. Yet many distributed teams still struggle to be effective.

I think it’s not just the software but the practices that need to change. The way we think about work, the way we coordinate our activities. For example when a team has members around the globe, meeting in real-time will always force someone, somewhere, to be up in the middle of the night or at odd hours.
