Cicada "Music" :-)

No cicadas were harmed during this recording session.  After his "song", we released him back to his home.

The cicadas are out in full force at my little guy's school. The trees, flowers and ground are pretty much covered in them. Most of the kids (and 90% of the teachers) are pretty freaked out by them.

Yesterday's Field Day was an hour of events, mixed with moments of barely contained chaos and hysteria. grin

For the record, cicadas are crazy ugly, but harmless. And after you get past the whole "ugly" thing, they're quite cute. Nate and I had a great time playing with our friends after school yesterday.

If you think the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade is epic, wait'll ya see what we do...hell yeah! Join Pro Photographer Alan Shapiro (the Skipper?) and SmugMug Community Manager Michael Bonocore (Gilligan?) as they lead a merry band of Photographers from far and wide through the Big Apple.
   We're gonna start in Chinatown, head over to Little Italy, peruse Soho and then wander over to the Brooklyn Bridge (or wherever else we damn please cuz this is friggin' New York and )
   There will be plenty of the much sought after SmugMug swag for all in attendence, including camera straps, t-shirts, stickers, plus much more. A Photo Contest will also be held, with the winners receiving a free year of SmugMug Business ($300 value), as well as social exposure through SmugMug. Details on the photo contest to come.

Since there was a 90% chance of heavy rain today, I had plans for trying a selfy in the rain.  I waited as long as I could for the rain, but I got zilch.  I finally gave up on the rain idea and shot this.  30 minutes after I put away my tripod, the skies poured down.  (Ah, irony.  I love you so.)

Sometimes the hatred and general douchebagginess (it is so a word) of many people (often thinly guised as "advice" or "criticism" or "sharing one's opinion") really gets to me.

And this isn't even on my page (which I can easily ignore).  It's everywhere.  Folks so eager to "share their opinion" that they don't stop to think how it might make another feel.  Or maybe they think about it, and still don't care.  I don't know.

What I do know is that life is short.  So I'm going to use my time to focus on people that add joy and humor and goodwill to my world.  I'm going to focus on the part that matters.  :-)
