The chemistry of the ocean is changing. Most climate change discussion focuses on the warmth of the air, but around one-quarter of the carbon dioxide we release into the atmosphere dissolves into the ocean. Dissolved carbon dioxide makes seawater more acidic—a process called ocean acidification—and its effects have already been observed: the shells of sea butterflies, also known as pteropods, have begun dissolving in the Antarctic.

Tiny sea butterflies are related to snails, but use their muscular foot to swim in the water instead of creep along a surface. Many species have thin, hard shells made of calcium carbonate that are especially sensitive to changes in the ocean’s acidity. I laughed when I saw this but then it dawned on me, we do actually say "Google it". It is part of our language now.

Side thought, if Google ever ceases to exist, imagine how much we would actually lose - photos in Picasa, videos on Youtube, contacts/emails in Gmail, etc etc. Most of us don't realise how much stuff is stored on Google through their umpteen services.

Dear +Google 

Let me start by saying that I love the products you launch and I use most of them. However, I must say how extremely disappointed I am with the replacement of Google Chat with the new Google Hangouts [Android and web-based]

Why am I disappointed? Well, here's my list of things that should have been included but are not.

1. Sorting people by their status. Whatever happened to being able to show ONLINE people only, or separating ONLINE and OFFLINE people in an easy way? Apparently if their icon is grayed out, they are offline, but hey, I only see about 8 people.

2. And that "8 people" brings me to the second issue. Who are these people? Have I hung out with them in the past? The answer is "no" to all bar 1 of them. Some I interact on G+ a lot but others I don't. So why are they there?

Are you only seeing one column?

Then try this little trick and get 2 columns.

Go to your menu [top left] and down to Settings.

Scroll down to ACCESSIBILITY.

If you UN tick it, it will give you 2 columns. If you tick it, it gives you one.

A Google+ Experiment

First Question: Do you have 1 column showing, 2 columns or 3?
Second question: At the top of your page, how many circles are listed [ignoring All and the More option]?

Am willing to wager that if you have:

4 circles, you see one column
5 circles, you see two columns
6 circles, you see three columns.

Am only assuming this based on discussions with others. Anyone care to correct/confirm the above?

And if it is true, how do you increase the number of circles showing at the top of your page?
