Halp! I have a faulty photocopy of a technical document. It's all legible, but there are bad-photocopier streaks across every page. A new copy cannot be had; the original has been destroyed. I've scanned it in at high resolution (.pdf); you can see sample pages (.jpg) at the link. Can anyone suggest a way to clean it up without slow, painstaking labour?

I left off part of today's story: When the pilot made his milquetoasty announcement that we were being taken off the plane because there was indefinite holdoff on takeoff clearance to go to Houston because of a "security incident", I—already late and steamed at US Airways' crappy maintenance causing the loss of my original itinerary—growled "Oh, perfect. Fuckin' Texas again ". Whereupon the brain-baked moron in front of me started up: "Yew goan' blame Teyaxas fer theyat? Fuck yew! Yew goan' blame Massachewsitts fer Sayundy Huuk too? Landed at Houston at 9:01 on B concourse. Connection to Seattle took off from C concourse at 9:03, no chance. I'd already rung United as soon as they took us off the plane in Savannah, so I'm already confirmed on the 9:05am to Seattle; a United lady checked me in for that flight and said "not in this circumstance" to a voucher. Lady at the next counter said yes; theoreticZlly this means $65 Hyatt room—now awaiting shuttle.

Over the years I have known out gay men with resolutely, devotedly Republican boyfriends or partners. It was always the same lame, milquetoast, doormat, self-loathing nonanswer when I would ask how the said boyfriends/partners react to the likes of this link: "We agree to disagree. Is there an EE in the house? My house still has its original range hood. The motor/blower and wall-mounted 3-speed control were made by a local Seattle outfit, long defunct, called West Wind. As long as I've been familiar with this particular installation, the 3-speed control has had a "working but kinda worn out" feel to it. You get no discernible detent between "Off" and "Hi". The fan does come on, though the noise is more motor whine than air-rush. There is a discernible detent between "Hi" and "Med", but you have to wiggle the knob to find the actual contact point for "Med". When you do, the motor speed decreases and the whine becomes more prominent. No detent between "Med" and "Lo", and again you have to hunt around for the contact point, and again the motor speed decreases and the whine becomes more prominent.
