So I had emoticon faces on some of my pictures, which I put on there with the (April Fools') emoticon button.
I left them there cos I knew they could be removed.
But now the button has gone. And I don't want them there forever. :'(
+Google+ will this be returning, and/or available at least as an option to remove the emoticon?

This is awesome and I adore this theme.
The other two are quite nice but feel a bit clunky. Keyboard definitely feels faster now. It used to lag all the time on my nexus7. And it appears faster after tapping in a text box (stock keyboard is immediate, and +SwiftKey shows up quickly on my other devices).
Thanks for the heads up, +Android Central

Carbon Dioxide Reaches the Highest Level ever in Human History
#globalwarming #carbondioxide #climatechange
#sciencesunday #euromaestro
Congratulations to mankind, we have managed to set a new record.
The concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has reached a new high obtaining 400 parts per million. This concentration level is substantially higher than the pre-industrial levels which varied between 180 and 280 parts per million.
The scientific consensus largely attributes this substantial rise to anthropogenic sources. (That mean us).
The data in the chart is gathered from the NOAA, a US government agency that has monitored carbon dioxide levels continually since 1959 from an observatory in Hawaii.
It is true that in Earth's history, there have been higher levels of Carbon Dioxide but this has not be... more »

So according to +Gaming On Linux, Half-Life 2, Episode 1, Episode 2 and Lost Coast are now available in beta for Linux!
Naturally I couldn't help but, ah, test HL2:E1 (that's the only HL2 I have on Steam).
It runs flawlessly on my computer (+NVIDIA GPU of course). And actually runs better than on Windows. Furrealz.
The only problem is I just realised I never completed HL2. So I'm not really sure what's going on.

Definitely can't afford it yet buttttttt
I wanna get +Netflix. Is it truly worth it? Is there stuff on there that I'd like?
After a month's trial, I'll hopefully have a job and then be able to afford it anyway, but I don't want to fall in love with it and then have to give it up again so soon. That hurts.
Requesting Pros and Cons of Netflix, as well as show and film suggestions.
(credit to +Lifehacker for the screenshot - idk if you're one of those sites that gets shitty about people stealing your images. Anyway I'm obviously not claiming it to be mine as a) I don't use Unity and b) I haven't yet got Netflix so I couldn't possibly screenshot this screen. Idk why I'm typing all of this. Extended disclaimer, I guess.)

Thank you +Lifehacker!
I just found +Whitson Gordon's guide about running CHDK and managed to turn my little Canon point-and-shoot into a camera with all sorts of extra features.
I can now override a load of things like flash power, ISO, bracketing, video bitrate and quality, video optical zoom.
I can use tools like live histograms and panoramas.
I can run custom scripts (written in Lua).
I can even play Snake, Tetris and Sudoku.
But best of all, I can shoot in RAW format. :D
The majority of their cameras are supported, so if you have one and feel like tampering around with it then head on over to the link below! Note that you will need to be slightly technically minded in order to make sense of the guide.
The process is operating system-independent so I was able to do it with no trouble on Linux.

A couple of days ago we found these roe in our fish tank.
We're trying to work out which fish they came from. We want to separate them out to make sure they're not in danger of being nibbled up by a different species of fish.
I'm pretty certain it's almost impossible to tell, as they're so small and indistinct - and they probably do look the same as a lot of other fish eggs.
However, the internet is a big place with a lot of people, so perhaps someone can identify them. To help narrow it down, these are the fish species we have in the tank:
Leopard/Zebra/Giant Danios; Silver Tipped Tetras; Glow Lights; Mountain Minnows; and a Sail Fin Plec (who hasn't got a mate :( )
I think you'll all just look at this and think I'm silly for posting this, and so for that reason I am going to point out that +Carri Lee wanted me ... more »

I told this to share to Google+ and facebook when I published it but it didn't work =/
Anyway... This keeps happening to my Atrix phone.
I thought it might be a software/firmware issue, as I recently installed a new ROM and custom development kernel, but it's definitely a hardware issue as it still happens now, even though I've flashed entirely different software. It's probably just a loose connection somewhere. But I can't work out why it only does it sometimes - that doesn't really make sense.
I took it all apart yesterday but couldn't get between the screen and the chipboard without feeling like I was about to snap it.
If anyone has any suggestions that'd be great, thanks. :P

p.s. sorry for the background music. There ... more »

#showyourdesktopfriday - not done one of these in a long while.
Mostly because everything's the same now - I'm happy and comfortable with +GNOME Shell, and I haven't yet found a theme to replace stock because stock is so damn clean and sharp.
More interesting, perhaps, are the icons I have on my desktop. They tell an odd story. :P

What would it be like to be straight in a gay world?
+James Gregory just shared this on twitter. It may be 20 minutes long but it's definitely worth watching.
I actually thought up something similar to this a while ago, but never did anything with it.... Perhaps I'll try to turn it into a book or something.
Verrrry powerful and moving, even though the concept itself shouldn't be. Just shows how terrified people are of things they don't understand. For a race of highly advanced sentient creatures, we sure suck at comprehension and acceptance of things we haven't experienced.

Here is a list of the kernel components being worked on for the Motorola Atrix.
Most of them are now green.
Lots are blue.
Five are purple.
NONE are red.
And mostly importantly, the Fingerprint Driver is partially complete! This is the most sought-after feature of the Atrix, as it's the only phone in the world (apparently?) with a fingerprint scanner. Moto also only ever released the drivers for it for Gingerbread, and so the fingerprint scanner never worked with anything post-GB.
Just as a brief explanation for anybody who's interested enough to have read this far, but doesn't really know why this is so significant:
Motorola stopped releasing code for this with Gingerbread, despite promising ICS. They leaked a partially complete ICS-beta kernel, but it was too buggy and shit to be particularly useful.... more »

So I really tried. Really hard. But I made them wrong.
These are supposed to be "Earth Day cupcakes" but the mixture was too heavy and they didn't work. :( However they did taste good :D
I blame c**, (and with good reason, eh +Elisa T) but I'm not telling you what that says because I don't want that discussion on every. gorram. post.

+Mathew Hanley just showed me these. They were posted somewhere on facebook and
I want to make them omg
I'm assuming they were something to do with Earth Day? But they're awesome so I'm going to make them anyway.
Not sure though if the filling is just icing or red cake mix in a tube...

I like this post.
HUDs, on-board diagnostics, up-to-date in-car systems, POV-racing videos, recorded and quantified driving stats, drowsiness detection.
Just a few of the things that could easily be possible with +Project Glass in a car.
As well as the obvious benefit of not having to fumble around with buttons and knobs and awkward resistive touchscreens to do simple things like reroute or change song.
Thanks +WIRED.

I finally made the cake +Carrie Canup invented and posted the other day!
It's not quite right, but overall it went very well, and in my opinion it looks and tastes pretty good. (Although it doesn't look anything like +Carrie Canup's.)
The family seemed to like it as well, and I think I believe them as we've already eaten over a quarter of it.
However, I think I put way too much carrot and pineapple in it - converting arbitrary food masses from cups to grams is terribly difficult! So it's ended up rather sticky and goopy, but it did cook which is obviously a good point.
Finally I roasted the dessicated coconut until half of it was golden brown, and then plastered it all over the outside.
So all in all, I think it was a success. In it is plenty of pineapple, carrot, coconut, sugar, spices and brandy. Can't really go wrong with ... more »

Well so far this is going horrendously.
I thought I'd checked for the ingredients this morning, but lo and behold I was missing most of them...
After hunting for the flour (yes, I hadn't even checked for that) and baking soda (we call it bicarbonate of soda), I mixed it all together and it was looking about right.
I couldn't add the nuts as I'm allergic to them (I wanna have my cake and eat it), so I grated up the carrot and crushed up some dried pineapple. Except we didn't have either of those things, so I didn't actually do that.
I thought maybe I could substitute the grated carrot with dessicated coconut - which the recipe actually calls for later anyway - but we didn't have any of that either. I finally settled on some cocoa powder (just because) and some raisins. Yeah, I know. Not even comparable. Then I smashed up extra chocolate (... more »

Apparently this just happened? A thing called #CISPA passed.
I've been totally out of the loop for a few days so don't really have any idea what's going on.
Sounds like fun though.
And the email I received from +Fight for the Future reads:
"It’s time to get pissed. The U.S. law that would turn Google, Facebook, and Twitter into legally immune government spies just passed the House.
"This bill affects everyone -- not just U.S. citizens. Anyone with a Facebook account could now have their data shipped directly to the U.S. government. That's why Internet users overwhelmingly oppose this bill. Over 1.5 million people signed petitions against it. But Congress didn’t listen.
"Does this remind you of something? Yep, this is the exact position we were in with SOPA last year. Then the Internet rose up and we made histo... more »

Easily my best investment in the last few months.
I haven't got very far into reading them yet, but my dad loves them and is powering through. We talk about it nearly every day :D
(Plus, he's really good with history, so he tidies up all the things like family trees, battles and sieges which happen that I didn't pick up on. Feels like a Westeros history lesson :P)
