The Point of Rocks Railroad Station is a historic passenger rail station at Point of Rocks in Frederick County, Maryland. The station was built by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad in 1873, and designed by E. Francis Baldwin. The main station building is built in the Gothic Revival style. The station was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.

This is the interior of the Duomo at Pisa and shows the mosaic in the apse - "Christ in Majesty - with Saint John the Evangelist and the Blessed Virgin". At least partially the work of Cimabue who died in Pisa in 1302.

Trolley Car - Glen Echo Park, Maryland. This trolley car was donated to the National Park Service in 2005. The trolley car stood outside the entrance to the famous Glen Echo Amusement Park along MacArthur Boulevard in Montgomery County, MD before being sold for scrap in 2012. I was so sad to see it go.

Male African bush elephant, Loxodonta Africana. This elephant dominates the rotunda of the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington, D.C. It was first exhibited in 1959, and at that time was the world’s largest land mammal on display in a museum. The hide weighs over two tons and was donated to the Smithsonian by the Hungarian big-game hunter Josef J. Fénykövi. Fénykövi tracked the elephant in the Cuando River region of southeastern Angola in November 1955. Upon seeing the track of what he knew to be one of the earth’s largest land mammals Fénykövi’s first thought was how to kill it. I hope our view of the world and our place in it has changed since 1955.

Last night I dreamt I shot an elephant in my pajamas. What he was doing in my pajamas I'll never know. We tried to remove the tusks but they were too tight. Of course in Alabama the Tuscaloosa, but that's totally irelephant.

B&W - Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird
This Blackbird accrued about 2,800 hours of flight time during 24 years of active service with the U.S. Air Force. On its last flight, March 6, 1990, Lt. Col. Ed Yielding and Lt. Col. Joseph Vida set a speed record by flying from Los Angeles to Washington, D.C., in 1 hour, 4 minutes, and 20 seconds, averaging 3,418 kilometers (2,124 miles) per hour. At the flight's conclusion, they landed at Washington-Dulles International Airport and turned the airplane over to the Smithsonian.

Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio - Milan, Italy -
The current building was begun around 1080. The nave dates to about 1128 and the rib vaults of the nave are from about 1140. Entrance to the church is through an arcaded atrium. The basilica has a semi-circular apse, and smaller, semi-circular chapels at the end of the aisles and no transept. There are galleries over the aisles which support the vaults but preclude clerestory windows.

Harpers Ferry is situated at the intersection of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers where Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia meet. It is located on a flood plain created by the two rivers and surrounded by higher ground. Harpers Ferry is famous for John Brown's raid on the Armory in 1859 and its role in the American Civil War. Hawker Hurricane Mk. IIc - This Mark IIC was built at the Langley factory, near what is now Heathrow Airport, early in 1944. It served as a training aircraft during the World War II in the Royal Air Force's 41 OTU.

Vought-Sikorsky XR-4C - (following edited from the Smithsonian's web site) - the world's first mass-production helicopter and the first successful production rotorcraft of single-rotor configuration. The helicopter first flew on January 14, 1942, with Sikorsky chief test pilot Les Morris at the controls.
